Hi, I have a ford fiesta 1.4 tdci 2007, recently I noticed when cruising I get a slight judder, when I take my foot of the throttle and apply again it seems to go, also on start up from cold it seems to miss fire for about a minute or so then idles/runs ok, but you hear a diesel knock when pulling away, but again this goes when up to temp, anyone have any ideas what could be the fault on this? Have been told the throttle pedal could have a flat spot in it that may course the judder/miss fire when cruising but not when first started in the mornings, many thanks Read more

Ok thanks for your reply, think I will start with the erg valve as cheapest option, I don't get any hissing when start the car so don't think the seals have gone on the injectors, I will clean the egr valve this weekend and see what happens, I'll keep you posted, thank for your help.

My son has recently purchased a 2.0 Ford C Max Titanium, 08 plate, on 60,000 miles. Does it have a cam belt or chain, and if belt, when should it be changed? Read more

Graham567

If its the same 2.0L diesel thats in my 59 plate Mondeo then its a belt and only needs changing every 100,000 or 10 years.

It should tell you in the service book anyway....

I have the code to input to reset after a flat battery, but once i've put in the 4 digits what do I do next. Display telling me 'wait 30 mins' as if I have to try again then. Which button to press after actual code ? Read more

Thanks for all the help. You were right, the code was wrong. All working now, n.b. took a friendly garage guy, with proper tools, 10 mins to get radio out. Wouldn't bother with coat hanger trick, would've taken all day.

I have a Ford Fiesta 53 plate 5 door that needs new front wipers. I've never changed them myself before, is it quite straightforward? I went to www.wiperblades.co.uk and was quite overwhelmed with the choice and whether I could actually do it. I've never done much car maintenance beyond changing a fuse, tyre and bulb but am keen to not pay someone to fit them for me.

Cheers for any clues as to what to get, and any special tools I might need. Read more

Thanks they were really easy to fit. I did it with snow outside and it took less than a minute to get it done, which surprised me.

Hi, thanks for feedback.

Primarily fault is- it is impossible to start when cold, if it does start and I runs for sometime it can take sometime to start when hot, although it does start eventually. This was his deduction from this information - to do a fuel flow test through the returns....

In September 2014 I px'd my BMW 325i Touring with 98K on the clock for a 25 month old Qubo with 14K on it, a full Fiat service history and the balance of the 3 year warranty. Whist not built to the same quality as the BMW, the Qubo was big inside, reasonably compact outside, with 95bhp it pulled quite well and cruised comfortable around the maximum speed, whilst returning 54mpg on Shell V-Power diesel.

Within 2 months I experienced an engine management warning when starting from cold. The engine appeared to run normally but advice in the handbook was to stop immediately and take the vehicle to the nearest franchised dealer, in this case D Salmon Cars of Colchester. I telephoned their service department before driving the 10 miles in. No problems were evident, but I was concerned that I could be causing damage or invalidating the warranty. Whilst the receptionist was sympathetic, she was unable to find anyone to see me and I went home. I tried again next morning when their Saturday morning service slot started sharp at 8m. The service manager came and took a look and tried to reset the faulty lamp, without success. He tried to fit me in ut there wasn't a spot for me and eventually I booked the Qubo into the service department from the first possible appointment which was Tuesday. Fortunately there was a courtesy car available as I had business to attend to across Essex. Despite regular enquires over the next two working days no one could tell me the cause of the problem. Eventually I received a call telling me the car was ready. On collection I was told the problem was a faulty air temperature sensor and that I owed £250. I explained the car was still within warranty and the bill was then removed.... Read more

Stop-start kills any DPF - the Royal Mail's fleet of Fiat Doblo's has required the issue of a driver-initiated DPF regeneration procedure, to be implemented as soon as the EML lights up.

Evening. I've been having trouble with my car for the past month. Before Christmas it went into limp mode a couple of times early in the morning, took it to the garage, no error codes, changed spark plugs as they were almost due. Then 2 weeks ago the coil pack was changed as it misfied and gave an error code. The limp mode didn't come back.

A low voltage battery can flag a fault with the throttle body/sensor,so I am not convinced this is the problem. It could be fuel related, may be an idea to start with the basics and get the fuel filter replaced.

When I bought this vehicle back last summer it would often run rough on idle as if it was 'misfiring' or was a petrol engine with a plug lead removed. I have lived with the problem but its got a lot worse recently and in 'kangarooing' even when driving normally which it has never done before. When idling the engine will act as if I am blipping the throttle, run rough and smoke then after a minute or so clear itself before then happening again 10-20 seconds later.

Does this sound like injector faults? A local diesel specialist say he can test them on a bench for a couple of quid each and they just unscrew. Firstly does my amateur diagnosis sound correct and secondly is removing the injectors as easy as this chap suggested?... Read more

My other half is looking at a Mercedes Benz A class (amongst others), 6 months to a year old in either A180 or A200 guise. She does the mileage to justify a diesel and wants a car with a really nice spec.

Are there any issues with them and are they MB engines fitted to them?... Read more

My apologies RobJP, I used What Car? as my source, which is still showing 1796cc. Numpties.

The A180 CDi I had yesterday must have the 1.5 engine, which makes the way it performed.even more remarkable....
