I've recently got a tow bar mounted bike carrier and have had to start looking at Nose Weight (the weight that can go on the tow bar).

I have an auto Santa Fe with self levelling suspension. In the UK the nose weight limit is 80Kg (but can be more in other countries apparently).

The 80Kg limit is due to the weight of the car, and the weight of the auto box over the manual box.

If I have self levelling suspension, shouldn't that mean the nose weight can be higher than a vehicle without it?

Shouldn't the overall vehicle weight be taken into account, in a similar way to tyre pressure? My car could have 7 large people in it, with luggage on the roof, a full tank of fuel with 80kg on the tow bar, or it could have a single small woman driving, with a near empty tank, no passengers or luggage, and still be limited to 80kg.

or am I being too simplistic?

Are you a trained technician with years more experience than the Ford engineers who developed the car. Of course not.

Change any component under the bonnet and you will lose your warranty and wipe £££££'s off its value....

Hi everyone, I hear mixed views and opinions on the Golf 2.0 (140) TDI (2004 - 2006). It tends to be all the bad things you hear about so I'm after the possitive !! Does anyone out there have a 2004 plate Golf 2.0 PD TDI (140) and have you possitive things to say about it? Have you had problem free driving? If not, what have been the problems and were they easily fixed ... Are the problems what you'd expect from a 9 year old car anyway?

Thanks ... Read more

Though not a Golf, we've owned a B6 Passat 1.9 for 4&1/2 years. It has 80.000 miles and has been regularly serviced, initially by VW and latterly by a good indie who charges an average of £100 each service over the three service cycle. The only outlay other than that has been for a cam belt and kit (£185) new parking brake switch (£48 fitted), brake fluid change (£35) and tyres (now on 3rd set, just fitted). So apart from the switch, no surprises. Still has original wipers, pads and discs all round, original DMF and clutch despite using it to tow a caravan, covering 5,000 miles towing. It has spent two years as my wife's town car and two and a half years as my commuter car. Passed its last MoT with no advisories and returns 50-55 mpg (on supermarket dregs).

Bad things. The dash creaks when its cold....

The simplest way in most cases is simply to drive up alongside the desired vehicle and then lift it onto a low loader. No amount of door locks or alarms can stop this.

Its not exactly inconspicuous though and in reality they are not stolen like this.

Don't get me wrong Mr Danno, wasn't having a pop at you i do similar to you, just the way things are going these days, was trying to be ironic and failing miserably as usual..;)

I've never liked the modern method of car brake servicing, fitter peers through or from behind a wheel sees some pad material in semi profile in the 1/2" section visible, squirts the caliper with brake cleaner and proudly pronounces the brakes as good, yeah right, same goes for drums, peers through the tiny port hole if you're lucky and pronounces all is well.....

unhappy audi girl

Just a bit of advice really regarding legal rights on rejecting a car...

I purchased a 59 plate audi a4 with 75k on clock
Drove home 180 miles and had warning lights flash within a day, advised the garage, within one week had to fill 3lts oil! Not normal.

Garage firstly advised to refer to independent audi, they found spark plug no3 sat in oil a sign I'm told that piston rings need replacing cost of 1500!
Advised garage they said need verification is that issue but will assist with cost to fix...
Only problem is the car may have further issues due to the excess oil consumption. Independent report completed and shows excess oil in engine and also oil in cylinders.

My issue is I want to return the car for a ill refund b the owner is stating no I have to give them the opportunity to repair.

I have sent an email and letter rejecting the car within 14 days of purchasing but feel I am being bullied.

The garage refuse to refund as they state not a major fault as car can still be driven, even though I am not driving it as scared of damage being caused.

Can anyone please advise as really do not want to go to court I just want m money back Read more

OP states "added 3 litres of oil", if this only brought the level to "full" on the dipstick, where did the excess oil found come from?

There is to be a recall of Parliament this week to debate and possibly vote on action to take.

Why do WE have to raise our depleted military head above the parapit all the time. The use of chemical weapons and the deaths of countless civilians is wrong. But firing cruise missiles into Syria is going to attract "collateral" damage on the same scale.... Read more
