All cars sold in the UK have Thatcham approved alarms. Not that it will be of much use because if they want to steal the car or anything from it they will with ease.

ALL ?

And in any case, the Thatcham Approval system has 7 different categories, each with different levels of security and insurance requirement/discount.

Key theft from the owner's property simply sidesteps even the best security system - which is what happens now generally with expensive cars like Range Rover.

If you're bored, why not do a crossword or watch TV? Instead of making these ridiculous statements. Maybe in Collos land this sounds deep and insightful, however, to my way of thinking you've perfected trite and pointless.

Collos is of course correct. You cannot stop people stealing your car if they want to*. You can, however, make it very difficult so they will go elesewhere.

Leaving the keys hanging near the house door is an obvious place for thieves to look and often cars are better protected than houses - and the keys...

* Like using a low loader to take it away. It does happen.

I am afraid its you who wants to grow up and come into the real world instead of of a fantasy world you seem to exist in where cars are never stolen. My comment was not pointless it was an observation the alarm does not seem to do much good. The number of RRs stolen everyyear is breathtaking one of the most sort after vehicles in my mothers city they have just locked up part of a gang for stealing RRs the number is in the hundreds here in Germany they disappear over the border at alarming rates never to be seen again.

According to records thee new RR which has only been available since January is already at number 5 of the most stolen cars.

If alarms and immoblisers are so worthless, why do insurance companies offer discounts for having, and penalise for not having, them fitted?

I am afraid its you who wants to grow up .....

There's no need to be afraid.

You have dug a hole for yourselve I suggest you stop digging .

The figures you referenced are skewed.

Stolen vehicle recovery firm Tracker has revealed the top 10 cars stolen in the UK in 2012 and subsequently recovered thanks to its telematics system.

Of course, Tracker’s figures only account for cars it has recovered that have been fitted with a tracking device, which rules out more humble machines.

Suggestion noted and duly ignored.

Idiots do not take advice.

The facts are expensive cars are stolen irrespective of what alarm they have most of these cars are never seen again.

I dare bet that pretty much all of those stolen Range Rovers are with the keys or with a cloned key of some description.

Actually most are stolen without keys according to the insurance statistics.

Actually most are stolen without keys according to the insurance statistics.

Cable TV last night showed a reporter accompanying a professional US car thief who successfully drove away a large US 4 x 4, with the assistance of an accomplice with a gadget plugged in to override the electronic security. Whether European systems are as easy to defeat or how genuine the programme was I can't say, but would suppose that no system is absolutely thief proof.

Actually most are stolen without keys according to the insurance statistics.

Show me these statistics then.

I work in the industry, most modern cars are taken with a key, not without.

The simplest way in most cases is simply to drive up alongside the desired vehicle and then lift it onto a low loader. No amount of door locks or alarms can stop this.

Its not exactly inconspicuous though and in reality they are not stolen like this.
