Hi,
My car has failed its MOT on emissions
& to quote the salesman/owner "It needs a new engine"
That seems a bit vague to me...

These are the readings

FAST IDLE
CO_______ 0.75______FAIL (MOT Limit 0.30)
HC_______ 158______pass
Lambda ___1.030_____FAIL (MOT limit 1.030..just on limit)

SECOND FAST IDLE
CO_______ 0.78______FAIL (MOT Limit 0.30)
HC_______ 122______pass
Lambda ___1.030_____FAIL (MOT limit 1.030..just on limit)

NATURAL IDLE
CO_______ 0.89______FAIL (MOT Limit 0.50)

What do you reckon?
I wouldn't mind having a tinker....but I can get another for £500 with 12 mths MOT
and scrap this one for £120

ps I have notcied recently that there is a small puff of blue smoke after idling at traffic lights...don't know if that is relevant ?

Thanks

Does anyone know how the DPF on this model regenerates itself? Does it trigger by mileage covered from the last regenaration, by differential pressure sensors in the exhust system or by some other means. Where is the DPF located in this model? Read more

My 118D had exactly the same system described by craig-pd130. In over 5 years of ownership and 37,000 it just got on with life. You could spot when a re-gen was happening once you got used to the car, the engine note between gearchanges was different.

Hello all

New to the forum so go easy on me! I was looking for a bit of advice so I'll start from the beginning. My car has been declared SORN and been off road for about a year. It's done about 34,000 miles at the moment. Drove like a dream before it was SORN.... Read more

No the engine sounds fine on revving. The problem is more persistent at cold temperatures. I am taking the car back. On brief discussion with the mechanic, he will have a look at the fuel filter and suggest a change. Will suggest to him tomorrow about any components that need cleaning in case it is anything like the EGR valve and will try some proper fuel, not supermarket stuff and see if that makes a difference.

Fuel consumption isn't as good as I thought it would be, although I haven't formerly checked this by doing a full tank and trip meter reading. Car still not giving as much power on accelerating as before....

Hi I have just purchased a grand scenic 1.9 diesel 05 plate 7 days ago and while on a trip to the coast bank holiday weekend I noticed a misfire at about halfway 50 miles or so the service light came on with " check injections" warning and the car restricted the revs to about 2000 and seemed to cut out the turbo, I guess to protect the car. We stopped turned off and on again and the system must have reset, the warning light was off and the car ran ok other than a regular inconsistent misfire/ lack of power. We returned to the garage who advised ran diagnostics and that advised the accelerator potentiometer which was changed today. The car is still misfiring mainly in lower gears while accelerating but no warning messages are being displayed.. Does anyone know of possible answers as to cause so I can point my garage in the right direct.. Thinking I should just ask for my money back if this isn't a simple fix as could cause issues later... Unfortunately these are not the most reliable of cars, I would insist that they put it right or get your money back. For future reference use a diesel specialist rather than the dealer, they are usually cheaper and know what they are doing.

Hi

I'm replacing the timing chains and sprockets and just wondering if I should put engine oil on them before putting on the timing cover or should I put them on as they are ( without oil ) and allow the engine to oil them when started ?... Read more

I've a set of old, unused, Ferodo disc pads for a late Estelle. Any idea where I can find a cross reference list to see what other cars they'll fit. They're no use to me but someone might find them useful. I thought I'd put them on freecycle. Read more

>>{ I take it they are the same one's posted on the Classic Trials board?]

They're the ones. I don't know why I called them Ferodo here, the picture clearly shows they're Lockheed. I'll wait and see if any trials folk want them before I try the Skoda fora....

Hi, I got charged £70 for having parked too long in a private car park.

As I just moved here from Germany and am not aware of such methods, I didn't bother to read the signs, as they were no traffic signs obviously.... Read more

What driving related activity are you simply just not good at? What item made you celebrate when it wasn't included on your test?

I'll go first and freely admit I am pretty useless at parallel parking. I can do it. Eventually. Read more
