535i petrol April 2012 9500 miles. Stunning car. Stopped suddenly on M6 with fuel system message. Recovered to Maidstone (5h in recovery vehicle!), delivered to dealer Arden Maidstone.

3 days for repair: replacement high pressure fuel pump. 3 days later, car failed again with - allegedly - start/stop system failure. Recovered to Arden again. 7 days waiting for part from Germany, turned out to be intermediate fuel pump (there are 3 pumps apparently).... Read more

About 7 weeks ago I noticed that the compressor of my 09 plate Focus was not clicking on when the aircon button was pressed even though the light was.

I bit of troubleshooting showed that the aircon relay was okay and the compressor clutch actuated when I bridged the relay with a piece of wire.... Read more

Has anyone purchased or thinking of purchasing a Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid and if so are there any deals on this new car? What will residual values be like in 3 years as I have heard 80% will be company cars? Read more

RT

Unthrottled's post makes me think that a total revamp of EC fuel consumption testing is needed - it's inaccurate enough for normal cars but totally useless for hybrids because the difference between stop/start use with brake regeneration and steady speed cruising will be enormous.

My son has just written off my lovely 2004 yaris so I am now in the mallet for a new car and am totally overwhelmed! I had my yaris from new and it was reliable and perfect for me. I do about 6k miles a years, mainly short journeys, occasional drives along the motorway. I have looked at the usual culprits - new yaris, jazz, Mazda 2, jazz, polo also the Hyundai i20. The only car I am not sure about is the jazz, which seemed quite a firm ride. We have many pot holes around here! I wanted to like it as reliability is key. The new yaris is bigger than my old one, also higher up the price list. Any thoughts or experiences would be welcome... Read more

Sounds like a good deal, enjoy the Yaris. They really stand out in Chilli Red too. Thanks for coming back and telling us.

Is there any evidence of regularly occuring cheaper periods in the year when buying premium brands of tyres? Read more

As previously mentioned, stock is limited at Tyre Universe, but prices are low. However, looking at the details for some of the stock, some don't have the new rating tables shown and many of the in-stock tyres are of the less fuel efficient varieties. I wonder if the low prices are because they sell old stock?

The M25 and others are closed quite frequently due to an accident. Recently, the section west of Chertsey was closed for 6 or 7 hours, causing huge delays to tens of thousands of people. If the cause of the accident (is it not quite difficult to crash on a road carrying traffc only in one direction with no bends?) was made public, what then?

Those who missed family holiday flights from Heathrow / Gatwick, job interviews, other commercial deadlines, wasted fuel, those on hourly charge out rates etc, could sue for damages.... Read more

I don't see why it should be a malaise ..... airports and sea ports are used by carriers of different companies, ATC controls the aircraft in flight (must be more complex since it is goverened by international agreements and then there is the military with their needs to consider too). The Swiss trains run on time, and there also have different companies operating services as well as internattional services too.

UK roads need to be better managed so that delays are reduced - even opening one lane is better than creating a car park.

My C5 speedometer shows 7 miles below real speed since I had the cambelt changed in October last year. 3 GPS systems agree with actual speed and radars that show your speed too. I recently made a long trip through France were before the sped cameras they had radars that advise your actual speed. I noticed that I was always over the speed limit, (even though it showed the right speed on the clock for the road) and that the difference between my speedometer and my 2 GPS was about 7 to 8 miles difference. This is not the usual 10% difference were the speedometer shows more than you are doing. It actually shows less than I am doing. Before I had the cambelt changed the revs were just below 2000rpm at 62 mph in 6th gear and now it shows just over at the same speed that's why I know I'm actually going faster. Read more

Having a speedo which under-reads is illegal (although I'm not sure how you would be caught!)

Best get it to a dealer or specialist for a software update or a re-calibration....
