Is there any evidence of regularly occuring cheaper periods in the year when buying premium brands of tyres?

You will get winter tyres cheaper during the summer, and i have found my best summer bargains during the winter, but it pays to keep your eyes open continually.

However i never leave tyre buying till the last minute, i use 4 online sites which i trust having bought from 3 of them several times before with no problems and the odd one comes well recommended.

6+ months before needed i search weekly till something i have short listed comes up at the right price and buy them immediately, i have had some fantastic bargains which were obviously mistakenly priced by doing this.

Camskill Mytyres Oponeo Tyremen in no particular order.

Costco have reasonable prices but also have special every few months - Offer should come along soon - Michelins mostly but the have other makes occasionally.

Why no Blackcircles GB? Have you had poor service from them in the past or just never found them competative? I've used them several times when they have been on the fully fitted price and have been happy.

Personally I find online tyre shopping even less exciting than getting insurance quotes. I need to get two 205 55 16's soon and 300+ options come up on some of the sites. Now it's easy to ignore the cheapies as I'm looking for something mid to high range. Got Goodyear at the moment and will probably stick with them. Delivered prices from Camskill and Blackcircles are the same at £62, rising to mytyres at £71.

Now I don't like paying over the odds for anything, but I think you need to limit the time spent on tracking down a bargain. An hour to save £18 is worth it if there's nothing else pressing, but it can get a bit OCD.

That is interesting as I have found the opposite, that Blackcirles have not been competative for me.

I think it maybe down to tyre size, my rear tyres, 255 35 R18 will need replacing soon and Blackcires have them for £168 and Camskill for £145 delivered. So when it comes to replacing my tyres I will look at Blackcircles but don't expect a competative price.

I have found lovetyres.com to be competative for my tyre sizes, no experience with any other sizes. But have often wondered why certain tyre sites get recommended when they do nothing for me.

Always found Blackcircles much more expensive, and yes i take your point about time taken OCD etc, however if i'm thinking about something i can easily still do so whilst i nip through the searches for 10 minutes once a week.

I take tyres seriously though being the only point of road contact, try to get the very best i can but not usually the top half a dozen premium makes, invariably i'll end up with Vredestein Nokian Uniroyal in no particular order depending on summer/winter sought, or another well proven to me version if they happen to be in my price banding at the time, so i'm not scanning hundreds only a handful.

For example top class Nokian WR full winters in size happen to be almost the same price as budget stuff (around £100 less for 4) on one of those sites at this moment, experience tells me that Nokian winters are tough enough to run all year round on the Outlander so might just grab a set which will probably see the car out for us.

If its OCD its better than smoking drinking womanising (ok i'll give you that one) or sport..

:-))

Be wary about Nokian WR - the original version was indeed hard-wearing enough to use all year round despite being defined as a winter tyre but it's been replaced by the WR G2 which is even better in winter but not nearly as long lasting if used all year round.

Also have a look at Tyre Universe in Cambridge. Smaller range than most but cracking prices.

However, you need to factor in fitting costs and it helps to know a good independent who can do it.

I saved tens of pounds versus MyTyres, BC etc doing it this way.

Thanks RT thats handy to know, these are WRD3's, i'm hoping still basically the original WR and as tough but glad to hear if you know different, though i might plump for a set of Uniroyal MS Plus66 winters yet as i'm not fully decided.

WRG2's i already have as my winter set on my old MB, this will probably the last winter as they are down to 5mm now so unless the winter is savage and i use the Outlander for commuting the i expect they will be down to 3mm by end of next season.

That'll be 5 or maybe 6 winters though so no complaints except they are not as good as the Vredestein Wintracs were for wet wheelspin, i leave for work at silly o'clock and am often the only 2WD car able to get out from where we live*, not going to work is not an option so the Outy is useful backup if its knee deep.

*Apart that is from the chap who runs an old 106 which i notice has Vred Quatracs fitted, when ist really bad he just turns round and reverses up the hill he doesn't fail to get to work either...see RWD wins every time..;)

edit, tried looking tyre universe cambridge up, no joy.

As previously mentioned, stock is limited at Tyre Universe, but prices are low. However, looking at the details for some of the stock, some don't have the new rating tables shown and many of the in-stock tyres are of the less fuel efficient varieties. I wonder if the low prices are because they sell old stock?
