My Mercedes 2000e 1998 was perfect the previous evening the next morning I pressed the key fob to open the door and it wouldn't open so I entered the car manually via the passenger door but the engine was completely dead. I left it 5 mins and tried again. it worked as normal. went shopping and it started normally to get home. no signs of a flat battery. The next day the door wouldn't open again and the engine was completely dead so I purchased a new battery and also new batteries for the key fob.All lights are working on the dash but engine still dead and door won't open with key fob.I would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas.
Many Thanks Read more
Hi there,
I'm considering getting rid of the Mk II Ford Focus (1.6 petrol, 2004). It's served me well but after 6 years it's time for a change. I've been looking on the standard car selling sites and nothing seems to be catching my eye. As I'm racking up 12-15k miles a year I was considering a diesel but reading reviews it seems that they're great but when something goes wrong, it goes wrong in a big (and expensive!!) way. ... OP, what do you need your car to do for you? I.e, carry kids, dogs, shopping, canoes, golf clubs, bikes, passengers, just for you....?
The world is your oyster with £7-8k and you currently have one of the nicest handling hatches (I used to have one) - I wouldn't want to go for something uninvolved and with a sloppy gearbox. ...
The lights on the car are coming on but the ignition wont turn over so we are not able to start the car................HELP :-)

Hi, Please can anyone help me with my problem.....my beetle passenger door has started to do a rise & drop motion when I open it ....dropping as far as to damage the edge of my front wing & I presume this is something to do with the door hinge & wanted to know whether this sounds correct & will it be a costly repair.
Thanks in advance for any advice given ... Read more
Thanks for the reply :-)

Hi, my car starts droning from around 20 miles an hour! I have had the left front wheel bearing changed, all drive belts are fairly new. There is no noise at idle or 2-3000 revs whilst not moving. I have noticed that when I drive around a left hand bend it disappears then returns when on straight, also gets louder around right hand bend! I have had all wheels of the ground and checked for play but all seem ok! Totally baffled and doing my head in! Read more
Tyres. Has it started since you had them replaced? I have a Saab 9-5, which has a bizarre characteristic like all Saab 9-5s, that the rear tyres wear oddly causing a droning noise, but the noise sounds as if it's coming from the front. You could try swapping the front tyres to the back, and vice versa, to see if the noise changes.

Not having the V5 will not stop them taxing the car plus a V5 is not proof of ownership a sales receipt is.You have no reason to take the car back unless they have other reasons they are not telling you, they should sort out all the problems in around 30minutes after all they are not the first person to loose a V5 its quite common.
I received 2 NIP's for speeding offences committed on the same day,May 31st,recorded by the same camera on the Cheshire/Derbyshire border. The first I knew of this was a reminder I received about 5 weeks after the offences,I hadn't actually received any initial notification.I wrote to Cheshire Constabulary to explain this and was then sent the NIP's allegedly sent to me originally. As my husband and daughter,as well as myself had been driving the car in the area on the day in question,I wrote again to ask that the photographic evidence be sent to me.These photos duly arrived but show only the number plates,it is clearly not possible to identify the driver from them.We were on a bird-watching outing that day so were constantly stopping the car and getting out to look at birds,so the 3 of us would each be driving at different times, almost randomly.I wrote again to explain that there were 3 possible drivers at the time of each of the offences, and last week both my husband and daughter received letters but they are as unsure as myself as to who was driving at the times in question.Obviously there is photographic evidence that offences have been committed, but who should accept culpability? My husband is prepared to take the blame,he has 40 years driving experience with no speeding convictions at all. I myself have a 25 year unblemished record, while my daughter has 7 years experience with one speeding conviction.I am now being threatened under Section 172 and don't know what to do.Should I accept my husband's offer to take the blame,as one of us would appear to have to accept it? I f not, what should I do? Help!!! Read more
I do blame the "State". I fail to see how the Bench can make arbitrary decisions with NO evidence. Mr DVD you may be as pure as the driven snow but I hope you come up against the State at some point and see how far honesty gets you. The Bench might simply not believe you!

There was time when the sensible driver replaced the clutch at the very first sign of slipping, but that was back in the days when a flywheel wasn't a consumable and usually lasted the life of the car, if caught early enough simply replacing the driven friction plates would see another life from the rest of the clutch.
That slipping is overheating the DMF every time, i wouldn't leave it but the choice is yours....
