Kia Magentis.
Leeds-Cardiff and back. And how happy am I not to have to spend my working day on the road!
It led me to wonder how areas will cope with traffic increases over the next 20-30 years. At a basic level all motorways will need to be 4 lanes and in some areas 5.
Managed motorways such as the M42 are all well and good, but when its bumper to bumper with a 40 limit, yet hard shoulder running is not permitted thereby reducing capacity, what is the point in spending the money on the system to permit hard shoulder running?!
I was happy to get 46mpg over the trip. Read more

my partner was driving my car this morning she got hit up the rear stopping at a roundabout so there is no question of blame but it turns out her fully comp insurance doesnt cover her to drive other vehicles so now it looki likes shes uninsured.

My sister in law needs a new car since her Ford Ka has rusted away and did not pass MOT. Given that she wants as little maintenance as possible and has a budget of only £2000, I recommended a Japanese car such as a Yaris, Honda Jazz, Mitsubishi Colt Daihatsue Sirion, or a Kia Picanto or Hyundai Getz. Would it be possible to get a reasonable car of any of these types for £2000?
A futher problem is that she lives quite far away in Twickenham and neither I nor she has any clue of reputable car dealers. Are there websites where second hand car dealers are reviewed? Read more

The brake pedal seemed to stick own without warning and although I tried to lift it up the brakes had locked on. (The handbrake was definitely off!) We stopped as quickly as possible on the narrow busy road but the discs were very hot and the front offside was beginning to smoke. We were recovered to the local garage who checked the car the following morning but could find no fault. The discs, pads, calipers, linkages, brake fluid and master cylinder all seemed perfect and the garage could not reproduce the fault. Before we bought the car last year, another garage had the same problem and replaced the discs, pads, calipers, sensor wires and brake fluid. The car has covered less than 1000 miles since these renewals were done.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? And can suggest a solution? There are two garages would love to know what the problem was as they are baffled. Thanks... Read more
Check on the Merc Forums. I am sure you will come across cases of this. Inspection around the seal can show corrosion. The last one I dealt with did it three times and the garage was stuck for ideas but the guy who owned the car ( A Passat ) insisted they changed the servo and the fault has not returned. Must be 12/14 months now. Regards Peter
last 5 months:
the car runs fine when it's cold. After 5-10 miles (not always though, but 3 days out of 4) it feels VERY "nervous" running at fix speed. It's twitching, and pressing the speeder here, I have no power. Pressing the pedal fully down for 5-10 seconds,(during this time, the car is still twitching a lot) the power comes, often very abruptly. When the car start behaving like this, the idle (at red light) are unreliable. Can be ok, but often just the motor cuts out.
Starting the engine again if it stops, the idle is okay again, but at the next red light, it can be either good or bad again...... Read more
