Hello,

Yesterday I noticed my left rear tyre is very worn and almost bald looking in spots :(

When I've checked the size to replace the front and rear tyres are different :

Front - 205/50/ R17

Rear - 205/55/ R17

Is this normal/right/ok or should they all be the same?

Why is this size tyre so b***** expensive?!

Look in the car manual for the correct size.

No, they should be the same size. It is not illegal (as long as they are the same across the axle), just not wise practice. Maybe someone fitted the 'wrong' tyres because they were cheaper...

Some performance cars have different width/profile tyres front to rear but wouldnt expect to see this on a Scenic. Check handbook/door pillar for correct size. There is about 2MPH differnce on speedo readout between the two. Always fit same tyres to each side of axle.

The 17 inches make them expensive.

we had this issue a few yars ago where I used to work - 51 plate Megane needed 4 new tyres and the tyre place had 4 tyres of a different (but similar) size in stock - the driver had them fitted. Not sure about the spare, but the car was scrapped a few years later when the engine fell apart

There's a legal requirement that tyres on the same axle must be the same size and construction - notwithstanding the provision to use a different size space-saver at limited speed for recovery purposes only.

I have just bought 4 17" summer tyres and 4 17" winter tyres Khumo and Goodyear I did not think they were over expensive you can also buy budget 17" for well under 200 for four have a look on ebay..
