Hello all,
Looking for some help!
I'm a single mum and worked really hard to buy my new car which was a major treat to myself!
I'm now sick and could cry myself to sleep most nights as I'm struggling to see how I can afford to run it!
I bought a hyundai i40 1.6 petrol tourer as it gave me the space I need for my little girl and all her grubbing and came with all the extras that made it feel really special!
I bought it from arnold clark but instead of the mpg of nearly 42 I am only getting about 30 mpg!
It now has 894 miles on ten clock and has cost me well over £200 in petrol to do that mileage!
I have filled up at the same petrol station, driven the same routes etc to see how the mpg changes but nothing makes it more economical! I drive with my 4 year old in the car and don't exceed 65 mph even on the motorway and always try to get it into 5 th and 6 th gear as soon as possible and only accelerate slowly!
I feel a bit let down - any suggestions as I cannot afford to spend £3 k a year on fuel just to do 8 thousand or so miles a year! It has taken all the joy out of a new car and if I honest I feel let down by the salesman who I'm surprised didn't feel the need at any pint to make me aware of this gas guzzling car.
It would prob be cheaper for me to drive a hummer!
Help! Anyone else got one and has the same concerns or experiences?

I bought a new A4 cab from their wakefield branch. 3 months later the steering rack was making a racket on full lock. After replacing the rack once the problem was still there. I was so frustrated after 6 months i spoke to their Commercial Director who basically implied I was lying and didnt want to know. I sold the car after three months and never went back there. I've heard they concentrate on hard selling.

You need to get a diagnostic check. This will guide you in the direction of the fault.Could be a wheel speed sensor or associated wiring problem.hth
Anyone else heard of this? Looks a great little film about 1950's Americana and the station wagon.

Measure the current being draw once the ECU turns off. It may be a faulty battery so also try leaving the battery disconnected overnight to see if it discharges. Regards Peter
My key fob had just about given up when I sent it to keyfobrepair.co.uk. They repaired it including new battery and returned it within 24 hrs. What great service and all for £18. Read more
Hi, on Saturday I received a fine for stopping on a box junction. I do recall exactly what happend as there was plenty of room for me, the traffic was moving. A lorry two vehicles ahead of me suddenly stopped leaving me half in the box.
On the back of the fine is a photo of the alleged offence, and it shows the lorry and a gap of at least two car lengths ahead of the lorry. Also, you can see the lights are still on green.... Read more

I found a car I'm interested in buying, but I'm not certain it'd be wise. It's a 2006 Fiat Panda, 1.2 dualogic automatic with 9k miles. The low mileage worries me. Any advice on whether it'd probably be fine or not? Read more
For what little it's worth, my advice would to avoid any automatic which has less than 150bhp. Unless of course there's a pressing reason why you otherwise need one.
Small engines rarely seem to suit auto boxes although of course there may be exceptions.
Ive come to a problem with the car today, my dads cheap n chearfull runaround thats been a money pit.
Hes been getting about 30mpg running about locally, just been doing routine checks under bonnet and the HT leads were fairly lose and one had poped off, i had changed them about 8 months ago so i decided to nip the metal bit inside to make them a bit more snug.... Read more
Well all is now sorted, at 7 am i was out taking the old spark plugs out and making the spark gap a bit smaller and 'Shazam'! The problem disapeered! I do astound myself sometimes :-)
So a trip to halfords and a set of new bosch plugs for £13.49 and its all loverly again, another excuse for me dad not to get rid of the old shed!
Its not too bad i suppose, it easily screamed to 110 earlier on a noce straigjt back road and it only has a puff of smoke on firing it up which seemed like might be stem valve seals but while its running that can be a job for another day.
Id like to thank you all for you help, so thats a pat on the back for me then, but i guess talking to yourself sometimes does help ;-)
Cheers!

The petrol i40s are known for being very thirsty
50 mpg is easily achievable on the diesels. However this is dependant on the oil used. Mine went as low as 38 with cheep oil from a local garage...
