Is this the most risible report to appear on this site to date? The selection bias is self-evident, not to mention the fact that there is no breakdown of the causes of the MOt failure. A bald tyre is not a manufacturing or a design fault! Read more
My car is a 2002 Focus 1.6 Zetec. Mileage 151000. Has anyone had any problems with the electronic boot release? When getting into the car and putting the key in the ignition the boot mechanism has been releasing for no reason. This happens whether it is the remote fob or the conventional key. Read more

Last week i hit a 2007 Audi at a petrol station which resulted in a scrape on the front wing of the Audi. After exchanging details with the owner of the Audi (during which time he offered to 'lay me out') he said he would get some quotes for the work needed and call me as claiming through insurance would mean i couldn't afford the increase (needed for work).
This morning i got in the post a letter asking for my insurance details as the owner of the Audi is claiming instead for....... Read more
Surely, unless he has gone somewhere and deliberately stoved in the side of his car, any claim for injury would be dismissed by an insurer as total b******* if the only damage is a scratch on the paintwork?! Even with the insurance industry being as thoroughly septic as it currently is, how could anybody accept an injury worth compo could result from that?
Can I change the thermostat without draining the coolant.? The coolant is fairly new so don't want to have to renew it again. and I know that by draining off either by removing the bottom hose or rad plug, usually results in the coolant running all over the place picking up dirt.
Could I sipon some coolant out of the expansion tank first so that I get level down below the thermostat? Read more
Thanks for the tip, it was easier than I thought.
I loosened off the drain plug on the rad just enough to get a decent flow but not enough to cascade all over place, so minimizing getting dirt in the coolant.
The after market themostat had a very feeble O ring, the original fed round the outer edge of the stat but the new one did not have a channel on the inside to do that. when I tried it and put the cover back on it din't squash up to create a seal. Anyway I put the original back on. No leaks so far.
I think a car's life mostly reflects 'fashionability'. After 12-ish years cars which do typical mileages are starting to need repairs more often, and are usually worth £1000 or less, largely because most owners want something more trendy. They are worth little because supply exceeds demand, so many get scrapped despite being rust-free and roadworthy. Usually total waste, really.
