This is on my shortlist for next spring when I change cars and am interested in a two year old Honda Jazz( new shape). Is there any advantage in buying a 1.4 over a 1.2 as there seems to be little benefit performance wise with the 1.4 and economy is similar? The only thing I could consider the 1.4 for is maybe it would have a little more overtaking power, although a top speed of 110 mph( about the same as my Nissan has now) would suggest the 1.2 is no slug. I have just had an oil and filter change on a Nissan Almera and the sump only holds 2.7 litres( this being the QG engine found on petrol models). Most cars tend to hold 4-5 litres, so I wonder why Nissan have gone for such a small sump as it does appear the car is using more oil, the mechanic at my family garage saying the level was down to midway( although there is no engine wear), until we checked and found the engine had an unusually small oil sump. A smaller sump capacity means faster warm up resulting in lower emissions and less engine wear. The diesel will have a more generous capacity for two reasons, firstly the engine oil of a diesel car gets contaminated with soot pretty quickly, plus the diesel will likely be turbo-charged dumping more heat into the oil requiring a reserve as a heat soak.
Sounds like a pain in terms of topping up but one should check their oil regularly anyway!
Hi all, I am now buying a 2004 Kia Picanto 1.1LX with only 12,000 miles on the clock.
The car is perfect in every way but I'm concerned about the cambelt as its the origional and though its only done 12,000 miles its still six years old and i'm concerned that the belt may be perrished or splitting and therefore very prone to snapping.... Read more
I've got £5-6000 to spend on a car and need 6 seats. I've looked at a number of options and have narrowed my choice to a honda frv or a vauxhall zafira. It appears that my budget could buy a low spec 2007 zafira 1.6 petrol with <30k miles or a 2004 frv 1.7 (maybe 2.0) petrol with >70k miles.
The zafira's have fewer miles, are cheaper to insure, probably cheaper to service will use less petrol and are in plentiful supply. The FRV is a far smarter car and for 6 people gives the best boot space. However, they are quite rare and hard to find at my budget.... Read more
Takes me back a few years - we had 3 children and the oldest was under 4 - we found out what was causing the problem and "a man with 2 bricks" solved the problem. Actually it was a surgeon but just as painful I can assure you!
already booked with a week off work to let the grapefruits reduce in size afterwards!
hello im at my wits end . my car seems to lose acceleration on build up to 50mph its like its going to ideling speed the engine just dies then builds back up again this happens only in gear . out of gear reving is ok no loss of power or revs , i have beeen told it could be either the injecters blocked or the fuel pump .to solve the problem the main dealer want to charge in excess of 1800 pounds (sod that) any information would greatly be appreicated Read more
has the fuel filter been changed ? check the fuelpipes under the o/s/r wheel arch for kinks! yes they are metal but I have seen them folded ! air flow meters can be suspect as are EGR valves. The wires in the air flow meters on the 2.0ltr D are prone to breaking just inside the plug. As already metioned find a good indy or diesel specialist. check the actuator linkage on turbo is free, only the 2.2 was fitted with the VVTurbo which was electronic.
Just bought (privately so no comeback) a lovely 2001 Astra 2.0L SXI.
Three Days later it has refused to start- RAC found that the GlowPlug Relay was at fault.... Read more
Looks as though you need to find someone with one!!
That would be good- if they work- buying one will prove cheaper than getting someone to take the head off!!!
I have a C4 picasso leased from Motability that needed a couple of new front tyres. I was advised to take the vehicle to KwikFit to get new tyres fitted. I had no say on the choice of replacement tyre. Motability authorised KwikFit to fit Marangoni Verso tyres, a budget make that I have never heard of before. On looking up the reviews on the internet, they are very badly rated for wet weather braking. I feel a bit short changed as I would have chosen Michelins as they were the original fit and feel that my safety has been compromised by fitting such a cheap tyre.
Does anybody elese have experience with this make of tyre, good or bad? Read more
Well, I have had a word with Motability and they assure me that the Marangoni Verso tyres are not budget tyres, but "mid range" tyres and they are happy with the fit. They stated that Marangoni is owned by Pirelli.
Despite this, I am still not happy. Luckily, Motability have made a note on my file registering my concern, so when they prise the remains of my Picasso out of the back of a truck on the motorway in the pouring rain, they will be able to read on my file that "I told you so!"....

stripped on crankshaft which was a 14mm 1.5 thread. measure up internal dimensions on...
I think you'd have to work the 1.2 harder to get similar performance to the 1.4. So if you enjoy driving it won't save you much, and you'll wish you'd gone for the 1.4. But if you drive sedately and mainly around town, a 1.2 will probably do fine.
