Hi, have just been told by Vauxhall that my Astra SXi 05 which has 4 service histories is missing one. My camshaft has snapped so they are trying to avoid helping with cost, car has only done 48,000 miles. After checking the Service book I noticed that the Astra H is every 2years or 20,000 not every year as Vauxhall are saying. Just need this clarifying if any one knows. Thanks Read more

Sounds like they are all different. I have the 2.0T SRi (200) and it is on the flex system where it varies depending upon how you drive. It is also limited to a maximum of 2yrs or 20,000 miles. Mine used to only come up every two years as I do low milage (6k/annum), and it is rare I give it a thrashing. Even so I still service it annually now by a good local garage as I am not confident any garage can predict brakes are going to be good for 2 years.

Can you check how long is left before the next service on your car (you do something with the odometer button but cant quite remember what). If shows over 10,000 miles or 12 month the chance is it is on the longer interval....

The 75000 mile service for the DPF equipped Focus C-Max diesels specifies renewal of the DPF. Does anyone know how much this costs, be it for a new or reconditioned unit? i.e. I'm trying to figure out the some of the cost of the 75000 mile service, which seems to be a biggie. Read more

Hello,

I have narrowed down my search for a Diesel Estate to the models VW Golf Estate or Skoda Octavia Estate both are 1.9D engines for £2000 (year 2002)... Read more

There will be more Octavias around: Golf estates are quite rare, possibly because the Octavia with the same mechanicals has always been cheaper. Also consider a VW Passat - all three have the durable, non-DPF, 1.9 TDI engine.

But at this mileage condition is more important than make or model, or as Mrnikko says, than petrol v diesel.

Your VIN number will indicate if you have the "filtre à particules" (FAP) or not.

If you are VAT registered you can sign up to Citroën Service - http://service.citroen.com Alternatively I can look it up for you, given your VIN number. Does this forum have PM?...

Hello,
This probably has come up many times before but I have the following problem with my car which has over 200 k miles on it.

Car drives fine until i get to motorway and usually if I go near 3000 rpm I lose power. You can actually feel the power going. Then its as dead as a door nail. Turn off the car and turn it back on and car is fine again. The car is on its 2nd MAF so Im wondering can a MAF go more than once?... Read more

Hello, I am new here and I am after some advice.

After finding a few spots of oil on my drive and some oil spray in the engine bay I booked in my new model VW Polo 1.4 petrol into the dealer last Friday with what I thought was a small oil leak. Yesterday they told me the news that it requires a new engine. The car is only 4 months old and had up till then covered just over 4000 trouble free miles. The engine will be replaced under the cars warranty (at the time of writing this I do not yet know why the engine change is required).... Read more

Brother seeking an economical mid size diesel estate (Mondeo too big). Looking at a nice 08' Saab 9-3 TiD estate with 47,000 miles on offer locally at £9495. Nice car but even cursory research highlights fundamental problems with this engine. Is the 8v 120 bhp engine more reliable or is there a better alternative? Read more

The turbo needs to be actuated by a controller which is situated directly under the turbo originally it was vacuum operated but to squeeze more power out of the X type they changed to electronics the problem is it bakes itself ,You cannot replace it as a single unit you have to buy the turbo as well making it rather expensive. The sucess or failure of a vehicle is its sales the x type has been a flop withdrawn from the lucrative American market long ago because of warranty claims were far more than the profit on the cars and last year from all markets.Even the Saab was better than the x type but still I think a real eyecatcher in estate form.
