Considering a nearly new Modeo 2.0 TDCI 140ps. Any guidance particularly on genuine MPG I might expect? Read more

On very short journeys i get 36mpg.On a bit of a run it goes up to 38mpg(still round town) and then on to the motorway i got 51mpg full laden averaging 70mph.I feel i probably could have got more if i'd have stuck to 60ish and didn't have a boot full of suitcases!

The car only has 5000 miles on the clock so theres room for improvement yet!

I'd like to resurrect this thread as I am actively looking for a big family estate car (with reasonable towing capability) and thought i had narrowed the choice down to a mondeo TDCI. Our budget of about £5k in todays market would buy an 06 model with 60-80k miles. Presumably without the DMF replacement.

Having read the advice above I'm now fearful of continuing this plan and would be interested to know what BRers might suggest as alternatives that can offer a better chance of longevity less the bills!...

I've just finished replacing the heater matrix in my 1998 Peugeot 306 1.4 petrol Meridan so would like to give anybody interested my knowledge surrounding this difficult DIY job.

1. If possible try a radiator sealent before replacing the matrix as this is a 2 to 3 day job which makes the interior of the car look like a train crash once you've taken out dash, air flow boxes, wiring loom, steering wheel, airbags, windscreen wiper assembly.... Read more

I admire the fact that someone has taken the trouble to write up their experience of tackling this most daunting of jobs. Heater matrix units are always inaccessible and are a likely failure as vehicles get to the “is it worth it” age.

Guys, looking at various motors, but fancy focus ghia. Budget up to 5k and 06-06 models are in that range , some with high miles. Hoping it will last me another 5-7 years so what should give me the least grief!! Only engine I dont fancy is either of the 1.8s.

Understand FSH is preferable, so opinions please!... Read more

The last two Golfs I drove, the ride was so hard my back ached within 20 minutes - the ride was shocking - how can people put up with this? I wasn't particularly impressed with the plastics either.

I've had to put a Astra down as the model for this post, but the vehicle I need help with is a Zafira!

I've a friend who's recently bought a 2003 Zafira 2.0 DTI with a known poor starting problem, it would generally start when cold but not when warm. To cut a long story short and after trying various things he was told to buy a new diesel pump. His has the ECU on top with 2 large connector blocks,1 at either end so a 2nd hand one from an 03 Astra was bought and fitted but it won't start at all now. He then bought the OPCOM interface and software in the hope of reprogramming the new ecu, which he was told he had to do, he has security codes, vin numbers for both pumps but when he runs the software and enters the security code for the new pump there is a message about 'security wait time' which he's been told is around 4.5hrs. After 4.5hrs he goes back to the laptop and its frozen! Has anyone been able to reprogramme an ecu using OPCOM? I read somewhere that an ecu has to be 'unpaired' from the donor car prior to refitting on another. Can anyone help, are we trying to solve a problem that isn't solvable with OPCOM? He's getting desperate so any advice, pointers or step by step guides (!) would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks. Read more

Hi ,

I really need some help and advice I'm on my 5th day of losing sleep over my car, I only bought it 28/08/10 one day after buying it my DPF light came on :(, bank holiday monday I took if for a oil change hoping it was just some diesel in the oil but no, its now at the mazda dealer and guess what it needs a new DPF but luckily it had a replacement DPF august 2009 and lots of other things but the paperwork is in Italian from a mazda dealer there, going by the very very little italian i know and the cost of all the work which was €3360 its safe to say it had a replacement! mazda agree with this and will cover the charges for parts and labour wahoooo :), HOWEVER mazda think that seeing as the car has only done 20k since the last new DPF they think its a problem with injectors which cost about £600+ each and there are 4 of them little b*****s!!... Hi guys, something about my experience with Mazda DPF fault, the dealers, and www.remap24.co.uk. It all started as usual with the flashing light, so I visited the s******- best part of 2000 pounds. I thought it was way too much and bought a new filter on eBay. This was fitted by my local garage. After about 10k miles the dreaded light started flashing again. This time I've done my research, found out about removal, and contacted www.remap24.co.uk as it was one of the first results on Google. After over 20k miles I can say it was a good call, and I can't confirm what horv wrote about this company. The job was done in a matter of three hours, filter removed from the exhaust, and an emulator fitted. Ok, the guy had to cut the loom- meaning a few wires, but everything was connected ok and rather discreet. The car was running ok for a few miles, than engine light came on and I came back- quickly diagnosed as lambda sensor. After I bought a new lambda- no more problems. So all in all I can recommend this way of dealing with the dpf, and remap24 as well. MPG is maybe slightly better, but most of all I don't see the flashing light again, the oil level doesn't rise and there is no smoke.

I bought this car new in March 2007 and the service interval was 20,000 miles or two years. Two faultless years followed, then a service, a year later new rear brake pads and an MOT.

I then got a dashboard !! Sign saying service required at 36K. I took it in and it needed an oil change and fluids check. Fine. The bill? £357!... Read more

I also have the 2.0 diesel with a service roughly every 2 years, I just took the car in after 12 months and told them to change the oil and filter and not reset anything.

If my proper service is a couple of thousand miles late (or appears to be late on the dashboard) I won't worry and my turbo should last and when I get to a high mileage I won't suffer a higher oil consumption (touch wood)...

I have recently started having problems trying to start my car first time in the morning, It will turn and turn for around 30 seconds before firing up at times I have to do this twice before it will fire up.

THE REAR DOOR LOCK HAS STOPPED WORKING. IT DOES NOTHING WHEN USING THE KEY FOB OR THE KEY IN THE DRIVERS DOOR LOCK. PRESSING THE LOCKING BUTTON ON THE REAR DOOR ALSO HAS NO EFFECT.

BELIEVING THAT SOME SORT OF CONNECTING ROD HAS COME ADRIFT, I REMOVED THE DOOR CARD BUT CANNOT SEE MUCH OF THE LOCK IT BEING HIDDEN INSIDE THE DOOR. I SEE A YELLOW TUBE WHICH IS PRESUMABLY AN AIR SUPPLY, PLUS TWO BLACK TUBES WITH INNER RODS. ONE IS FROIM THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE, THE OTHER BEING THE INTERIOR LOCKING BUTTON. INCIDENTALLY THIS ROD SEEMS TO BE NOT FIXED TO THE LOCK AS I CAN WITHDRAW IT FROM ITS SLEVE. I ASSUME IT PUSHES ONTO A PART OF THE LOCK WITH NEEDING TO BE ATTACHED?????? ... Read more
