Must admit, I've never driven either a mini or a convertible. Partly due to only owning one car at a time, which had to be a practical proposition.

Have I missed anything in driving neither? Read more

Personally I don't think you're missing anything re the convertible.

I've recently bought an MX5 as a weekend/summer car and prefer driving with the roof up and the windows down. ...

I recently rented a car from Hertz at Belfast International Airport and noticed shortly after getting onto the open road that the speedo was only in KPH with no MPH markings on the car at all. Equally there was no mileage recording, only kilometres. Not very convenient when driving in Northern Ireland where everything is miles and MPH.

Now my mental gymnastics is not too bad so for the couple of hours I drove in Northern Ireland I was able to manage although I find it a bit strange. I live in New Zealand and have become totally accustomed to kilometre distances and speeds since moving here. Miles are now a little alien to me. Since I was headed for the Republic of Ireland where everything is now in km & kph there wasn't a major issue.

I am curious as to the legality of what Hertz did, hiring me a car in the UK which was unable to tell me whether I was driving within the law. Hertz claim there is no issue with it, I dispute that, but want to find some solid (preferably direct legal references) backing for my view (assuming I'm correct).

Can anyone help out with legal references or other information about the legality of this?

Many thanks

It would obviously be good practice to put stickers on it for common speed limits but they don't have to. As far as I remember this is all that is needed for a Km clock car to pass an MoT.

I love this car but have a problem - a faint knocking sound when the wheel is turned, most noticeable when manoeuvring at parking speeds. Noise doesn't occur when turning at full lock. Can also be heard when turning wheel with engine off. Any advice appreciated!

I am guessing CV joints: test them for freeplay using the manufacturer guidance. I am not sure about why it disappears when on full lock. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to test all steering/ suspension components for freeplay etc.

Well where do I begin. My car broke down 6 weeks ago. I'm in the RAC so they towed me to the nearest garage, which they said were reasonably good - That was all that RAC would do since I have subsequently spoken to them for assistance.

This is where the trauma begins - they still have it and I'm not really any where near getting it back / repaired!!! They have given a number of excuses about why they haven't been able to repair it - the diagnostic says the sensors need replaced, the company sent the wrong part, the part isn't the fault, the diagnostic keeps giving different error readings - the list of excuses goes on and on and on and on........... Have they done any work on the vehicle at all? If they have request that they bill you for it. If the bill is unreasonable contest it.

If not you should be instructing the Mazda garage direct and insist this is the case and the bill is to you. Then work with the warranty company possibly on a pay and claim basis....

How would I identify if a 2000-2005 Honda Civic Type-S has VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist)? Read more

Manatee

I can't be specific to the model, but on the CRV it has a switch - it defaults to 'on' but can be switched off. No switch, no VSA.

If you spin the wheels (easy in the wet tonight) the VSA light on the dash will flash, if applicable.

hi all, i know its been on here a lot but my problems seem to differ slightly than what ive seen.My problem is that when im driving along all of a sudden all my dials (speedo, revs, petrol, temp) go to zero. While this happens the amber engine warning light comes on and the red handbrake light also. the milometer displays dashes. there is no loss of power. After a while all dials and lights go back to normal. there are no flashing lights or loss of power.

Ive been to the local garage who pluggedd it into their machine and the only code it displayed was a fuel sensor code. Which meant that the tank was empty (this must be because it zero'd out.) nothing else comes up on the diag machine. He's adament its the fuel sensor i dont think it is. not sure its the vss as there is no loss of power or any intermittent light. (going by what ive read this is, im no mechanic)... Read more
