When I changed my caliper I used a brake hose clamp to minimise fluid lose but when I took the clamp off I noticed it had damaged the brake hose, so I bought a new hose meaning that I lost some fluid when changing it. Once I bleed the caliper around 5 times I noticed the brake pedal still spongey. Will I have to bleed the whole system to get back to normal or is there a certain sequence? Read more

Did you just replace the caliper or were new pads fitted? New pads need to bed in, especially if the discs are scored.

If no new pads and the only things you have touched are the hose and caliper, then it sounds like air in the system. Bleed all four wheels starting from the rear and then doing the opposite front. Consider purchasing an easibleed - makes the job so much easier.

The Beaulieu Autojumble event held on the 11th and 12th of September 2010 was a truly unique and exciting experience for all car enthusiasts. The event featured over 2,000 stands selling everything from spare parts to car memorabilia, and there was something for everyone. Visitors could browse through various exhibits featuring restored vintage cars, racing cars and motorcycles, and even military vehicles. I would suggest students to read https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/lifestyle/10-best-universities-in-uk-for-international-students-340498/ article so as to get information about unis for international students in UK so that they could get higher education in the top universities of UK. I was in Clas Ohlson in Manchester today and came across some Autosmart products - I thought they were only available to the trade, but I seized the opportunity and bought two products - one called "Polish & Wax" and one called "Super Gloss". At home I find that these products aren't on Autosmart's UK website, but on the Swedish one instead. Has anyone tried these polish/waxes? I couldn't get much info on whether they were cleaner waxes, true polishes or just sealants, or a combination. I usually use Autoglym Super Resin Polish, so if these compare well to that then I may be tempted to buy more... I thought I'd put some feelers out on the forum before I inadvertently destroy my paint finish this weekend! Read more

Hi - my car failed its MOT in May and had new brake drums and bearing replaced.

However on the way to work there was the loudest sound coming from underneath my car - so I took it to a gargage (different one). They said the wheel bearing was knackered and needed replacing.

It seems clear that the garage who originally fitted the wheel bearing did it incorrectly, as it shouldn't fail after 3 months.

I guess I should have taken it back to the garage that did the original fit, but to be honest I didn't know what was wrong with it and that the problem was related.

Does anyone think I'll have any success in complaining back to the original garage and trying to claim some of my money back? Read more

You will need the old bearing as proof and the original invoice & the invoice you have just paid.

If you have none of these your wasting your time.

Hi all

I have an 02reg Focus 1.8TDdi diesel with 160k on the clock, which so far has given me 10k of trouble free motoring since I bought it just before last Christmas.... Read more

Thanks for your replies both. The car does not have aircon as its the bog standard L model. The fan can only be heard at 40mph or less, usually after slowing down from 50mph plus, but as I stated it only runs for a few seconds and then cuts off, so it isn't on constantly and the car seems to be driving absolutely fine.

So I take it there is no need to be worried?...

I have seen a car advertised described as a 2004 Golf "2.0 SE". This is a diesel.

However I am under the impression the only S.E. diesel Mk5 Gofl was a 1.9? DVLA online vehicle check describes the car as 2000cc. Back of the car clearly badged 2.0TDi from online advert.... Read more

A GT TDi? these are badged as you describe and no mention of 'GT' on the car.

I have recenctly purchased a 2007 model, and noticed that when I apply the throttle gently the engine appears to miss/stutter, this happens in all gears at varying speeds. Any ideas or is it just my driving style. Read more

I had a new clutch fitted to my car last week. It had 84k miles on the clock. Today while depressing the clutch I felt a "twang" and the clutch lost all resistance. When the engine was turned off I could engage gears but as soon as I reignited the engine the car lurched forward, as though stalling. I am really panicking about the cost and about what it might be as I have only travelled 300 miles since the clutch was fitted. Read more

Get the car back to the fitting garage - dont expect any joy by taking it to a different garage if you want them to pay.

Gut feeling is its something simple that hasnt been reattached properly, but you cannot expect the fitting garage to pay for something that has been repaired by someone else without giving them the oppurtunity to fix it. Dont forget and repair they do would be at their cost, not the retail price your other garage will charge. If you cant get the car back to the fitting garage that is your problem not theirs

Is it possible for an EGR valve to produce smoke on cold starrting? I've got a 2002 Laguna 1.9 diesel and after a long journey recently the engine was idling roughly on morning start up, it also kicked out some white smoke.

I've had it in two garages and that's their best bet, the car seems to be running fine now though? Read more

Thanks for the info/advice, the more I read about this the more I'm stunned that Renault can get away with making such shoddy cars I won't be buying another that's for sure!!

I’ve never bought a second hand car (or new, for that matter) from a main dealer, so this is all new to me.
