hi all i need a new set of tyres for my v70 d5 and have read sone good reports on the falkner fk452 anyone any views? the other tyres im considering are the dunlop sport maxx or the goodyear F1 Read more
The battery drained on my son's car over a few hours a couple of nights ago, he charged the battery and had no problems till tonight when returning from a short trip the engine wouldn't turn off even with key removed!. He stalled the engine (in gear/handbrake on) but all dashboard lights stayed on even with key removed (and ignition turned off) The car now wont start again. He could hear a ticking noise dont know if this is relevant? could it be the petrol pump? He has disconnected the battery (with rubber gloves on) as he didnt want to leave it incase something caught fire. He has only had this car a few weeks and the only other thing that might or might not be relevant is that the airbag light was flashing all the time then stayed on but reading other answers this seems to be a separate issue. Could this be a problem with the ignition switch or the transponder? Ive had cars for 30 years and never come across this before Im just a mum who will have a go at fixing most things but not sure where to start on this one! Read more
Sounds like a faulty ignition switch...Faulty contacts not switching off. ... Take a deep breath : if (IF) I am correct, new switch means Citroen dealer and fiddling around with keys and doorlocks etc...£££s.

Largely as a result of favourable articles in the Telegraph I sent my car to a restorer to be made roadworthy. At the time he said that he would not put anything on paper because of previous legal problems and he has been true to his word apart from sending periodic invoices over the last year and a half.
A dispute has arisen over the cost of rewiring the car. Out of the blue I received an invoice from the electrician. When I asked my restorer what it was about he said he didn't want to be involved in a dispute or make a profit on the charge and so had told the electrician to bill me direct. He also asked me to phone him which I did. The electrician said it was due to increased wage costs and additional work which consisted of cleaning the ignition swirch, earthing some equipment and repairing a windscreen wiper.
I have written to my restorer asking for a written explanation for the increase in costs (50% over an already high (in my and others I have asked) opinion) and a final cost to finish the car to which I have not received a reply.
My questions are what would you consider a reasonable price for rewiring a large early 1950's saloon car that has had the interior and engine stripped out and secondly how can I recover my car?

Bottom (big) end bearings, tappits, camshaft or valves would seem to be the most likely candidates. Don't think an oil flush would do much good for you.....in any case, i'd avoid drving the car until it's been fixed.
Seven months ago my daughter's Kia Sportage (56 reg) was fiitted with new front discs and brake pads by a Kia agent.
Recently the front nearside disc had to be replaced again under the garage's warranty for parts and labour. It was distorted, causing steering judder under braking.
A friend tells me that it is normal practice to replace both discs at the same time, and never just one. Also, the brake pedal feels spongy since the disc was replaced. It can be pumped up with the brake pedal. Read more
It certainly is required to fit two at the same time, the spongeness is they have not bled the system properly.Take it back at once and demand they put it right.
I recently drove a 2000 reg Astra 1.4 16v and was very impressed by it, most particularly the smooth gear change and how lively and smooth the engine was (for a 1.4). I have a 1.8 petrol focus and the astra felt "as fast" though I would say the focus has the edge on road holding as it feels more rigid but the Asra wasn't exactly sloppy.
I only drove the Astra around the block so really can't make a proper judgement but I have always looked down on the Astra when comparing it to the focus. If my 1.8 focus was compared to say a 1.8 sxi or a 1.6 even would it stand a chance? Read more
Surprised about the Astra gearchange to be honest, I've always despised that ZF unit they put into the Astra.

I went for the faken 452 in the end due the number of good reports on various motoring forums and have to say on first impressions they are excellent ,dry /wet grip is very good and they seem as good as the dunlop sport maxxs i had previous, but a sight cheaper , £335 pounds for four 225-45-17 fitted and balanced i also noticed there made in japan and not china or thailand as many mid range tyres seem to be
