I was caught up in the traffic nightmare in London yesterday. The whole of the dual carriageway form the top of the Finchley Road through to the Brent Cross flyover was shut.

Tried all the usual websites and all I can find is 'serious police incident'.... Read more

Following the failure of my driver window winder and my AC, my indicator/lighting stalk malfunctioned on the same day. It did not snap as on two previous occasions over the past 5 years but is not cancelling and to indicate left I have to press down against a springy resistance and hold it down - when I release it springs back to the off position. If depress to turn right it operates normally but does not cancel and there is also a tendancy to indicate right involuntarlly. The problem happened on a roundabout. The standard of driving in the UAE is generally atrocious and many of our foreign cousins simply cannot get their heads around going around roundabouts - let alone driving around them. The normal routine is for a driver to go round without indicating and also in the outside lane. There are many, many accidents here due to these bad habits. On this occasion I had one such idiot and not only did he join the roundabout after me but he came round the outside and cut across me as I tried to move across to exit. Due to my braking he did not hit me but with my wheels on half lock (turning anti-clockwise round the r/b) I flashed him and sounded the horn. The combination of flashing with the wheel turning left has caused this problem. Is it likely that I shall need a new indicator stalk or can these things be repaired? Thanks. Read more

Im sorry you haven't had any replies to your posts - but you refuse to use paragraphs so that readers lose the will to live.

I'm not an expert on either Jaguars or Dubai, but if you can find an independent garage who can fit new parts more cheaply than the main dealer, you might save money.

This is the second problem I experienced on the same day. Following the window winder failure (my previous post), within one hour my AC packed up and I suspect the compressor in view of noises (not loud, or grinding but more like smooth metal on metal) that are emanating from under the bonnet. The drive belt is OK and before the incident the digital display on the dashboard started to flash - hence an initial suspicion that this may be a control problem, but of course there is the noise, but that could be a coincidentally different problem, I suppose. There was also an instance a few days earlier when the AC did not kick in until 3-4 minutes into the journey. This is Dubai, so our summer temperatures regularly reach 50 Celsius. This is also the original compressor in the car which I've owned from new and the car has done 260,000 km - yes a lot - during which time the AC has been on continuously except for rare cool days in the winter time. Is it a safe bet to suspect the compressor rather than some control problem? - no other engine compartment related problems have manifested themselves since the noise was heard. If it's the clutch assembly - would that be repairable? Read more

This was one of three problems that befell me on the same day! My driver door window winder failed - the motor still makes a noise and the glass will only move up or down if I move it by hand. I'm not sure how these things work but since the motor is apparently working is it likely that it's just some detachment within the door. I live in Dubai and main dealer costs are extortionate so I might have to shop on line for parts - any suggestions and also a reliable on-line supplier. Thanks Read more

Hi, I am experiencing problems with the above, all of a sudden the car has developed a fault (No fault lights are on the dashboard) when traveling along the car looses power then returns to normal, Under acceleration same problem, pulling off same problem, it lasts for seconds and is a continual problem, Feels like a fuel problem, i do have thought might be a sensor problem as it feels like it cuts the engine and instantly return to normal as when it is fuel starvation the process is usally longer than seconds, In netural the car revs upto 3000 rpm and then sounds like its miss firing but then if you try it againn it will be normal and go round to red line so very hit & miss Read more

At least the spammers aren't rude, which the egregious Collos almost invariably is.

The spam was deleted within hours by colleague Boris, who checks the forum most mornings. I am usually around in the evenings. Remember that we are volunteers with other things to do, and we don't have time on our hands as Collos clearly does....
