Can anyone tell me the best way to fit mud flaps, I have been told the body work will have to be drilled but I don't think that sounds right. Any advice welcome. Read more

"allow cyclists to ride on pavements , slowly."
They already do. And fast as well.
"allow pavement parking" The police take no action about this around here even when a car blocks the whole pavement and people with children have to walk in the busy road. Heaven knows what happens to wheelchair users. The people who pavement park outside my house must damage their tyres/suspensions by bumping up the kerb on full lock - but that's another story.
I would suggest a law wherby those motorists who hammer past the nearby primary school at way way more than the 30mph limit are suspended from the school railings by their testicles foe 24 hours.
And another. Ban all children from riding in cars within a mile radius of the school they attend to stop streets getting cloggged with their mums' cars and give the hoorors a bit of exercise.
Any idea how easy it is to change the rear stub axle /pin on a 99 saxo with 3 stud drums?
I don't want to change the whole axle as a lot of people do. I,m in no rush its just that when I tightened up the nut it felt a bit tighter than usual on the last turn. So I want to be prepared when I next have to disturb it, just in case. I'm guessing the pin is pressed into the swing arm? I'm also guessing they probably rust in place? Read more
They would say that wouldn't they. Thats why I prefer to ask people on this site. I guess the pin's simply pressed in so it should press out. Are Haynes still called workshop manual's? perhaps they should change their name to DIY manual's.
My sister-in-law owns a BMW 330D. Recently it has developed an intermittent fault where it is impossible to start the car when the car is in ‘Park’ and it is not possible to remove the key from the ignition switch. Also it is impossible to move the Gear selector from ‘Park’ to push the car to a safer position. She has been given to understand that ignition key is prevented from being removed from the switch unless the gear selector is in ‘Park’ and it is not possible to move the gear selector from ‘Park’ unless an ignition key is in the switch. It would appear that the signal from the Gear Selector (be it physical or otherwise) is not being ‘sent’ to the ignition switch and/or vice versa. The BMW dealer to whom the car was taken after the first occurrence could not diagnose the fault. As is the nature of intermittent faults, the problem has ‘healed up’ twice, but the loss of confidence remains. Have you any knowledge as to what might be causing this problem?

Hi can anyone please tell me if my old 1997 Saxo has a computer terminal and if so, where is it and what does it look like. Thanks Read more
Nope.
None fitted.
The car starts and idles great. occasionally it gets a really bad missfire - possibly on two cylinders?
If an electrical load - lights fan, screen is turned on, this will nearly always bring the miss on. Turning the load off, and the mis recovers after a few seconds.
the speed drops to zero at the same time as the miss starts. Can be sat on the drive to bring on the fault too.
First time it happened, an ingition coil failure code set. this sets occasionally but not consistently.
Sometimes, just driving along, with unnecessary electrics on, the speedo drops to zero the miss starts and performance is lost.
The fuel guage also drops from half full to nearly empty at times and recovers. Not sure this is at the same time as the any of the above but seems to have started at the same time.
I suspect there is more than one issue here, but it all seemed to start at the same time, suggesting just one fault. where would you start looking?... Read more
Hi Andy I have just changed the fuel line filter and the car is running along ok. The Speedo does not drop to zero and there is no more missing. However that has left me with one only problem. When the sidelights are turned on all is well when the full beam lights are held on and everthing else is switched on all is well. How ever when the Dipped beam is switched on the engine missfires and the speedo drops to zero.Turning the lights off clears the problem. The alternator voltage accross the battery is 13.5-8volts until I turn the lights to dip beam when the voltage drops to 12.8v is there anyone else who could suggest what else we both should check for now.

Before you buy either it would a good idea to look on both web forums.I have a 2007 1.9tdi Saab but it has nothing in common with the 2.3 aero.A friend has 2001 Volvos80 auto petrol and it has given absolutely no problems throughout its life Any car at that age is a bit of a gamble but I would have thought the odds are with the Volvo and I would go for a manual easy job to put a new clutch in but very expensive to replace an auto box.
Regular readers (wonderful stuff All-Bran) will remember I tow a caravan with my car. When driving solo with it the coolant temp sits bang on 80 degrees, always has done. When towing the temperature rises to just under 90 degrees due to the extra load on the engine and transmission. I fitted a 12 row trans oil cooler in the offside front wing but it doesnt affect the temperature to any noticeable degree but I do have the peace of mind of an extra couple of litres of trans fluid in the system. My question is, will Redline Water Wetter shave a few degrees off the temp when towing? Has anyone had experience of this stuff?
Cheers
I think with your experience, this has got to be a wind-up!
I googled the stuff and soon found a quote: "Strangely, Redline’s own test results don’t square with their ad copy. Their technical literature only shows an eight degree Fahrenheit drop in a car with a 50/50 mix of water and coolant"....
With regards to an earlier post on 4/7/10 about a starting problem on this vehicle - has anyone ever encountered an intermittent start when the ignition key is in the lock attached to a big bunch of keys that could possibly be interfereing with a start in either the downward pull by the weight of the keys or by interference to the remote key itself?
