i have a 99 sharan diesel. recently the clutch has started to feel differant. im thinking its probably about time for it to be changed. the car has only done 104 thousand but a lot of local work and 2 or 3 times a year tows a 1400 kg caravan. my question is would it be worth converting the dual mass type for a conventional type clutch as there is quite a difference in prices. are they difficult to convert over???
any help or advice greatly appreiciated rich Read more
The tyre Pressure Monitoring System on my Vectra has started to indicate one tyre (Driver's side front) as losing pressure and brings up the warning on the displays, every time I drive it.
This happens shortly after each sensor has registered the actual pressure. Problem is that the tyre in question is the same pressure (plus or minus half a pound/sq inch) as the others and, definitely, isn't losing pressure..... Read more
Well you did say any thoughts.

Dear Honest John. Unusual one here I think. My wife was issued a parking ticket at 8:07am on the first morning of a five day suspension of a row of parking bays. The suspension was for pavement repairs. The suspension was taken down by 8am the next morning and no work was done on the pavement, no men, materials or any activity took place. We appealed based on the fact that the suspension was wrongly put-up as no work was done, therefore the suspension should not have been enforced. Camden rejected our appeal, dismissing the fact that no works were done. It's not the £60 fine, but the principle. If the contractors are at fault, or the council for cancelling the work, why should we be fined? Can you recommend whether it's worth taking this further (and what argument to use) or just paying-up? Thank you, Andrew. Read more
LucyBC, thank you for the advice. I will take it. It's so annoying as there must be a cost to organise the suspension, admin, paperwork, manpower etc. and my fine pays for it, rather than the council/utility staff that wrongly created the suspension. At the end of the day, it's Camden resident's council tax payers that lose-out as they pay for such wasted efforts. Andrew

Hi I'm looking at a mondeo on the net its an estate ghia x with 119k on the clock, it looks in reasonable condition but I emailed the seller who said there was no service history (its had 4 previos owners) should I avoid? or worth a risk at the right price? if so any ideas on what to pay? many thanks Read more
Its a ten year old motor a bit of paper telling me its been serviced would not convince me one little bit,its condition would be far more important, tyres ,discs, bodywork, inside condition, noises, leaks etc. and that you have to look at the vehicle. You can buy blank service books anywhere and stamp them up a perfect example is Mercedes full mecedes service history and yet there is rust on them if it were genuine they would have been repaired in a mercedes body shop.Service history is only good if you are buying a specialised car or one that could prove expensive but a ten year old Ford you need to use your eyes and ears.
This happenend to me on Friday evening after collecting a brand new BMW 1 Series Coupe just less than 48 hours earlier in March 2010 having only driven 57 miles!

HJ seems to be fielding numerous questions in the DT Motoring Section and here about the new Jazz i-shift and people complaining about "jerky" gearchanges, and he is also advocating L foot braking for Autos.
I am afraid that I would suggest that the complainants are showing an unfortunate lack of mechanical understanding and sensitivity in their use of autos in general, and automated manuals in particular.... Read more
Quite Mike, saving something like £20 to £50 a year over the extra cost and priceless driving pleasure of a proper auto pails into insignificance when the automated gearbox from hell goes wrong at 5 years old and the repair bill runs from £1 to £3K.
edit..pop onto technical and read of the joys of Focus Cmax ownership with one version of such hell.

You will not notice any difference.
