Has anyone solved the car insurance problem where one of your children, who is a named driver on your policy, goes away to college for term time but drives the car during holidays? Is it cheaper just to leave them on the policy, or to take them off for a refund and put them back on when required. Or is there some form of flexible policy?

Thanks in advance. Read more

We have the same situation. On insurance renewal time, eventually we called Aviva.

After going through the whole process, I asked for extra discount as 'Master Stumpy is away at Uni and only home in the hols' - after a pause, where the rep said he spoke with his manager, he came back with a deal I couldn't refuse. An excellent price - only about 70% of the cost of the best on confused.com. No extra conditions - and their usual terms....

I want to know how to set-up additional email accounts for my wife and the kids?

I have had a Wanadoo account (formerly Freeserve) for longer than I care to remember, but now need to have extra separate email accounts for the other family members if possible?... Read more

I'm not sure what's supposed to have been hidden, but here's Nick's post again, just as it appeared, to me at least, in the first place....

Thanks for the replies, but in response to Lucy, I already do this, but when I open my own Outlook, all the messages, whether:

me@........
wife@...........
child1@.............
or
child2@...............all download into my Outlook! I do not want this to happen. I want only the emails for a given person downloading into any particular Outlook, depending who has logged-on!

Is this possible?

I am looking to buy a convertible, but I don't really know what make or model. I don't have a lot of money and have ruled out a new style Audi TT (which I was slightly upset about). I tend to prefer the newer styling of cars however that (obviously) makes them more expensive because they are newer... sorry this is a bit of a poor post!

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? Read more

Thank you very much for that. I will definitely be looking at the MX-5 and BMWs. I don't like the Peugeots so they were never on my list anyway! I need it to be reliable, I don't have the finances to be able to fix it and it is very difficult to get to work without a car. Should I be focusing on dealerships or is it worth looking at second hand car ads? My main worry with that is selling my current car privately.

Evening folks,

Not long past test (29, yes I left it late) and got my first car today. After numerous searching for motoring forums I've came across this handy little site that looks very active.... Read more

Looking to change my car and just found an ad for a "reduced to clear px" as above. No service history mentioned, although does say Cam Belt done. Also states "sold as seen" so guess no warranty for that price! I know Peugeot Diesels have good reputation, but is this as good a deal as it sounds? Claims book price of £2,475. Planning to go for a look tomorrow morning - what should I be aware of?

Having just sold my 52 reg Citroen Xsara 2.0 HDI 110 (52k miles and full history)

I'd not recommend a French car with the PSA diesel engine. They are not reliable - the 'experts' can't diagnose faults and these cars can cost you a lot of money unless you're with a breakdown service and have lots of spare money for repairs(believe me I've been there) . Avoid at all costs and buy Japanese instead.

Can anyone assist with an occasional problem with my 2002 1.6 Focus zetec. The car has covered 125000 and usually runs perfectly but just lately the steering wheel sometimes wobbles at 50mph plus and after stopping there is a strange almost burning smell around the car. This cannot be smelt from inside. The car seems to otherwise drive ok whilst this is happening. I have smelt burnt clutches before and the smell is possibly similar but not identical. Would a worn clutch cause vibration through the steering wheel? The exhaust and catalyst were recently replaced so I know how a duff catalyst smells, its not that.

I returned to my car today which was parked in metered parking on the road to find a note with some details claiming I had hit his car and would i like to get in touch to arrange repair.

When I'd parked earlier I didn't hit any cars and there was no damage on my car.... Read more

Contact them and explain politely at first that no accident occurred and hence there can be no need for repairs.

If he persists and says he has a witness come back to me.

Here in Lincolnshire road markings are wearing out at a rapid rate. I was not aware how much I relied on them until I noticed my breaking was later at junctions where the stop line had disappeared. Where would you stand legally in an accident and are other areas of the country in the same state? Read more

It was presented to us at school as the most important practical task that had to be mastered before leaving. And much to everyone`s amazement the school (famous for forcing you to write in Italic, and not start sentences with err `and`) produced an actual tap.

We had no sex education at all - but everyone could strip this `decades old and never seen water` tap.... Read more

No it didn't. I thought I was a master of tap washers, no great achievement but I was happy, and then...

I have a tap in the bathroom that I must have changed the washer on a dozen times in 10 years. Eventually even changing the washer didn't stop the drip, despite dressing the seat. Baffling. Even considered whether it could be getting through the centre of the washer and round the jumper. As well puzzling this was severely damaging my household reputation....

Following the legislation that Leif refered to, there were many reports of non-native animals being released into the wild, as well as big cats there were other beasties such as wallabies which managed to thrive in certain areas.

We used to live on the western edge of Dartmoor and traveling back over the moors between Postbridge and Two Bridges from Exeter was especially spooky, certainly on a misty but moonlit night. (Hairy Hand territory for those who know Dartmoor folklore). ...
