Hi
have a Focus 1.8, 2003 model. Engine warning light has been on for 2-3 weeks now. Garage has diagnosed it as misfire cylinder 1. Replaced coil pack, spark plugs and plug leads, problem is still there. Went to a Ford dealer who carried out a compression test and it appears cylinder 1 is low on pressure (150 compared to 225 average pressure on the other three). Ford suggests they take out the cylinder head to check for around £500. Then they need to charge more for fixing it.
What could be the possible cause here? Someone mentioned the valve gaps may be off? Could it be burnt valves and any clue how much this would cost? Car is worth around £2000, so not sure whether I should sc*** it or try and fix it...
Thanks!

I've had cause to visit a couple of main dealers in the last few weeks. Vauxhall and Ford, as it happens.
Now, maybe I'm turning into a proper grumpy, but there seems to be a trend that I'd not come across before - music blasting out all around the showroom and even through loudspeakers outside on the forecourt.
When I say music, I use the word advisedly. Certainly not the sort I would choose to listen to - modern hiphop Y Factor type of thing.
Now, I can well understand why the dealers might want to add a bit of atmosphere/relax customers, or even entertain themselves when there are no punters around, but this was really irritating, and if I was, say working out figures/discussing a deal etc, I would find it really off putting.
And there was more... On one of these trips, I was there just dropping my car off for a service, then the plan was to get a taxi into work. As I was waiting for the taxi, my phone rang and there was I, trying to have a discrete sensible professional coversation from outside, but this blasted noise would clearly have been heard by my caller, who no doubt thought I was not concentrating on the business in hand.
I know. It's probably me. But heyho. Time and a place, chaps. Read more
Agreed - plus we`re getting old......... ;-)
When I turned the ignition key this morning it was very stiff (not happened before), the car starts OK but the air con control display panel doesn't light up so no air con. I think I read somewhere that the electric feed to the air con control panel is from the ignition switch. The same thing happened about 8 weeks ago but righted itself after a couple of days. Any ideas please.
By the way I had a new windscreen fitted yesterday - that couldn't be linked could it - possible short in refitting the rain sensor. Read more
My passat was missing, lack of power etc and when put on the diagnostic it showed an intermittent signal from the engine speed sensor (G28). I then purchased a replacement but cannot for the life of me find where the sensor is. I certainly cannot fid one that is the same as the one purchased and I believe that this is correct as the car registration was used in order to get the correct part.
Can anyone please help me locate where the engine speed sensor is on this 1.6 engine?... Read more
Perhaps a manual would be best; it includes torque settings if there are any!
Hello,
I have got a 51 plate vauxhall corsa that had intermittent problems for about 6mths with random stalling and loss of power for a few seconds. The engine management light came on and then the car stalled at traffic lights. I had the car towed to where it is in cardiff now. A mechanic came out and plugged it into the computer and diagnosed camshaft sensor and charged £60 to replace it, This did nothing, He then spent 3 hours trying to find out why the car wouldnt start and eventually diagnosed a broken timing chain. The car has a few months tax and mot and im not sure what to do with it (it has done about 110k miles). I live in swansea and the car is stuck in cardiff. The car is only worth between 500-1000 so do you think it is worth getting the job done on fixing the timing chain or do you think it is better to try and sell the car to a garage for a couple of hundered so they can fix it and sell it on for profit or do you think i should sc*** it? Sorry it is a 1.0
I've read the HJ FAQs on gear oil but one thing's unclear - the GL rating.
There's some Duckham's oil on ebay which is semi-synth and it says SAE75-90 and "GL1-5".... Read more

Hi, My father has a 06 Accord iCTDI, and it has an intermittent acceleration problem.
When driving normally, it's fine, but if you give it some stick and (for example) shift from 2nd to 3rd, the car starts to lurch and continues to do so unless you take your foot off the power, and gradually put it back on.... Read more
supersayan70 it sounds like your clutch is starting to fail ( slipping ).
It will gradually get worse & eventually you will have no drive at all....
