I just got my car back form a garage, they said that my ford focus (2005 zetec, 1.6) has 4 lambda sensors 2 upstream and 2 down. Is this true?
I had a engine management code says that blank 1 sensor error. The garage said they changed one of the sensors. There are two sensors just behind engine block in the exhaust manifold, but it doesn't look they've actually changed any of them!... Read more
Citroen Xsara 1.4 2000MY mark 1, 115k miles on the clock
Im having a strange problem where by when at idle every 10 seconds or so i can feel a small vibration coming through the steering wheel and the car- although no passengers have mentioned anything, also the exhaust sounds like it is missing every few seconds, also the engine is moving ever so slightly, so im guessing the movement in the engine is causing the problem. The car drives perfect and mpg is as expected, although from a standing start it does feel as if its missing slightly. It also passed the mot recently (no probs with emissions) where there was an advisory about small leak in the front exhaust but i cant see/hear anything abnormal. I should say the vibration is more noticeable after revving the engine.

According to the service history the lambda sensor was changed around 80000miles a few years ago by the main dealer, it has a Delphi sticker on it- also its always passed the emissions on the mot since ive had the car. Maybe at the last mot (it was done for free thanks to Citroen) the tester confused the vibration an exhaust leak- when its more likely something electrical?

My daughter was recently stopped on a dual carriageway (not motorway) for an alleged speeding offence - serious inasmuch as it was more than 30mph over the applicable 70 mph limit.
She was shown a radar gun reading, asked for her name and address which she provided and told she would be hearing from the court in the next couple of months. However she was not officially cautioned nor issued with a 'producer' or any other documentation.... Read more
Absolutely agree with you but there is not even a set form of words for issuing a verbal NIP.
The courts seem to work on the basis is that if a driver is stopped in the commission of an offence they will get a verbal NIP. If they are not stopped then it needs to be posted.
As you say for the most part the court will go with the police's version of events.
In most circumstances I would not be comfortable going to court when the sole defence was whether a verbal NIP was issued or not.
And there are some circumstances when there is no need for a NIP.
As an example, if there is an accident there is no need for a NIP, verbal or written, although they are often given.

Hi,
I have a 2002 Skoda Octavia Automatic transmission 1.9 TDI with 260K miles done.
There is no power when accelerating and very slow to change gear upwsrds or sometimes refuses to change upwards at all. The maximum amount of revs is 3000-3500.
I have changed the air flow meter on two occassions and the transmission oil and filter.
The problem is slowly getting worse on the vehicle.
Sometimes when i disconnect the air flow meter it improves performance somewhat for a period of time.
Please help!! Read more
This will be a VW Tdi engine, there are various faults that will cause this problem which is basically that the engine is in 'limp home' mode with much reduced engine power output.
Usually caused by faulty MAF, not in your case as it has been replaced, or split turbo hose, leaking intercooler, jamed turbo variable vanes, faulty boost pressure sensor....
My friend has the above vehicle. The original fault was a snapped timing belt. This was repaired by myself - head off, all valves checked, 2 replaced. New belt, new gaskets, and full service whilst I was in there.
However, whilst it now runs, it is running quite rich. At low throttle openings it 'shunts' or kangaroos really quite badly. There are no warning lights on the dash.... Read more
Fixed.
The wire from the lambda sensor was shorting on the exhaust causing the ECU to think it was running lean....
I have a neighbour who has put rocks on the verge of my drive, and the land does not belong to him on his site plan for planning. Every time i reverse out of my drive i have to negotiate them, and when in a hurry i have bumped them, they are below site line so i have to guess, as have friends. I have emailed the council, because they state do not put rocks on verges, i do not want to confront him legally where do i stand? Read more
Hi again; I asked my question as to where the verge is, because it is a subject close to my heart. I used to put rocks on the grass verge in front of my house, as did many of my neighbours to prevent inconsiderate drivers from churning up the verge which was then repaired by the council at my (& other taxpayer's) expence. The council told me they prefered these rocks rather than going to the expence as mentioned. Unfortunately someone (we know not who) kept complaining so the council removed the rocks as an obstruction. C'est la vie!
In your case however the ownership of the land is in question. If it's not council owned then it's up to the owner to take action against your neighbour, if they so choose....
Recently took car to KwikFit & got whole exhaust replaced including CAT. Engine light came on. Back to KwikFit - diagnosed O2 sensor. Simply re-set it so light off for a bit but came on again. Tried running it for a few days to see if it would re-set itself. No luck. Going to take it back to KwikFit - they caused the problem after all.
What should I be asking them to do? Is this a new sensor(s) issue? Different CAT? Really inconvenient for me so need to get it sorted & not just re-set again.... Read more
Could be damaged connection or bad earth or air leak-you need the codes read.
Is coasting harm the diesil or petrol car ?
edited to `coasting` Read more
I wouldn't have thought it is quite so clear cut.
1) If you have an engine without any electronic control system to throttle back when the throttle demand < equivalent crankshaft speed, then you will lose MORE energy by NOT coasting. This is because the throttle is still running at idle therefore, fuel is still flowing and the engine and the transmission act as a brake....
