Struggling to find exhaust for Toyota Carina E 1.8 1997 (7A-FE ENGINE)
Is there any other exhaust that would be compatable ?
Where do back street garages source their parts from ?
Only done 54k since I bought it new, so generally in good nick despite age . Trying to do jobs myself as car is old and not worth paying garage for work.
Thanks In Advance

I picked one up and my hand bridged the antennas. The signal fell off - and I wondered if the designers had ever gripped a car radio antenna and noticed the same? we knew that would happen as school kids.
It looked good though and it seems the battery is replaceable on this one - although it lacks a physical qwerty keyboard. Pity about that..... Read more
The above car is booked into main dealers next week for a code read as our hand held readers don't cover this car
meanwhile we thought we could do a few checks ourselves. On checking voltage at maf sensor plug disconnected... Read more
Hi, Did you get any information regarding your MAF sensor test readings. Was the sensor faulty or working OK. I have similar readings and strongly suspect the readings are correct and that the sensor has failed open circuit.

My 1996 Bravo knocks when going over bumps at the passenger sides. Also when going round corners it seems to wander a little. I took it to a garage and they said the hub was loose and tightened it. It seemed to slighly dampen the knocking sound for a few days but now its back? This side had a seized caliper which I changed. The knocking noise was there before I changed the caliper. I am going to take it back to the garage and get checked again but could anyone give me any advice what could be causing this? The garage did mention that the hub might be knackered and need to get a replacement. Its more the unsteady feeling while cornering thats bothering me most. Apart from that there is no Steering wheel wobble. Any advice would be great.

i have a 1999 bravo with the same problem, i found it was the bottom ball joint, i changed the wishbones as the ball joints come with them £39.99 the pair off of ebay. usually if the hub is duff u normally get a shake on the steering wheel. hope this helps
One of those little personally named `flyers` popped through the letter box, yesterday. An invite to send in £130 and to receive a CD in return - for new maps of the UK.
(Pity I had just downloaded the latest maps from Navteq (AKA Nokia) onto the E71for free - of the whole world too. Except that is for Patagonia and LA, both being zones unlikely to be visited.)... Read more
Hi Peter,
My Garmin had an issue with the Dartford crossing - returning from Dover. I find Sat Nav great though when trying to find a hotel in the dark, abroad, in a City I`ve never been to before. I find the hotel in the Sat Nav`s memory before booking and setting off....
hi all, ive just bought an escort and i am having trouble with the alarm. i unlock it via the passenger door (as the drivers door wont unlock) and the alarm will go off, i shut the door and lock it again to turn the alarm off then try again. it usually works on the second attempt but today it went off for ages. ive tried using only the passenger door to lock/unlock the car which seemed to work for a little while but im now back to the alram going off.
it only has 1 key so im wondering if getting a new key cut would be the answer, i know fords have a tendancy for their keys getting worn out which i think is why the drivers door wont open? but would this affect the alarm?... Read more
Re programming your own key. It Is detailed on P. 28 of the owners manual & entails using the master key only. It is a bit long winded but if it interests you forward your E Mail address and I will pass the gen on without cluttering up these pages.
The friendly Ford dealer from who I bought my replacement key supplied me with another method but it did not work so I binned it...
Given that V-Power is strongly recommended by Honest John and there have been questions about supermarket equivalents in the past, what is to be said about Tesco's Momentum99? It seems equally good in my engine from recent first experience. Read more
All i can say is on the caravan forum i use a chap has run up 200k on his renault laguna, using supermarket fuel, its the 2l petrol engine i believe.
I did have a 180bhp 1.8 tubo audi w reg, which was rated at 180bhp when used with 98 octane, i nealy always used 95 and was pushed to notice any power or economy loss.
my seat altea ecomotive with the 1600vw engine has completed 3000 miles from new in 3 months the average consumption is 47 mpg. It has been checked by the dealer on 3 occasions who says all settings are within the peramaters issued by seat . Government figures are 54_68 mpg the dealer now says I cannot expect the car to reach even the lowest figure of 54 mpg! .
It has now developed a habit of occasionally when doing 60mph jumping from showing 48mpg on the trip computer to over 100mpg! and the car feels like it is a 105 bhp car this may last for a mile or 3/4 miles then reverts to its usual dull performance. The dealer is unable to explain this and says I have no case for rejecting the car.The car will not cruise at 60 mph in fifth unless you keep the accelerator about half open.... I don't know what's wrong specifically in your case.
However, I would contribute a couple of points:...
I have a 97 fiesta 1.25 ghia. I was given it because it's riddled with problems and is a good place for me to learn on:
1. I have 1 red key and 1 black key. The red one starts the car, the black one opens the fuel filler cap. I cannot lock any doors as they wont unlock again. The boot is locked shut.
2. In the last couple of days the car wont start. It makes a clicking noise from the drivers footwell where I found the immobiliser.
3. I have no idea if the central locking works (becuase of the above problems) but I'm willing to bet it doesnt. I was planning on fitting a complete new lock and key set.
Unfortunately my Haynes Book Of Lies is useless!
Are these problems related? Could I fix them by installing the new locks and keys, or would I need to get an auto electrician in? I'd rather do it myself as I have vrey little funds for the project. Please help! Someone wants to buy it but I wont let it go unless it works! Read more
Got a noise on my car which I am trying to trace. It speeds up when revs increase. Its most noticeable on idle, but probably just drowned out by normal engine noise when driving. Sounds like a bearing failing or something rubbing.
Had a new cambelt, tensioners and water pump approx 3-4K ago. Took cam cover off at weekend and ran car but no sign of anything wrong there. Also suspected alternator bearings, so disconnected fan belt, but noise still there.... Read more
Whats the problem? Diesels should sound like that
A lot of old Vauxhalls sound like taxis (which is indeed what they are or have been) or transit vans, so if yours sounds like a sewing machine, sweet!...
