The ecu light is on the dash (engine symbol) of my 2000 vectra 1.8 16v and it runs pretty badly. I have read all the bumff i can find and believe it is fitted with a Siemens simtec 56.5 ECU with the diagnostics plug under the cover by the handbrake.
I have tried to read the codes and my car does the following which does not entirly concur with what it should do on the topbuzz pages.

I need the engine switched off to be able to read codes with the engine running i get nothing. Shorting pins 5 and 6 gives me the following codes 1515, 0100 and 0110. These 3 sets of number then keep repeating over and over after a pause (they do not repeat 3 times each as topbuzz tells me)

According to my data 1515 is IAC, car idles fine and 0100 is the MAF and 0110 ATS???? Both of these are the same unit i think (black unit downsteam from the airbox) and i have replaced this with no change in running.I have also put additional earth wire from MAF to ground.

The odd thing is that car had been standing for several months and it started fine after a battery charge and ran great for about 12 miles and the the fault re-occured.

Can anyone offer any advice on a cause of my problem.

Has anyone heard of a Vauxhall Omega 1999 2Litre automatic Station Wagon's computer going faulty?  When the car was switched on, apparently without the foot even touching the accelerator, it took off on its own, then did the same thing in reverse.

Does anyone on this site know of such a thing happening to this particular type of car?... Read more

I assume you mean the ECU any automatic will creep forward or backwards if its in gear and if the tickover is not correct it will move quicker. I assume it does not move when its in park or neutral because if it does then you have real problems.

I have been toying with this idea for some time, of buying an Ex NHS renault master and converting it to something that could be used for taking the family and bikes etc away on days out and the odd camping trip.

There are plenty of these for sale at around 2K and I guess all will have been well maintained.... Read more

I drive a Renault Master Minibus for a local Dial-a Ride scheme for a few hours a month. It's a 6 speed manual-rather slow change, with a big steering wheel-feels like a truck compared to my Fiat Ducato Campervan. If you find one with a step by the sliding side door, which swings down and out, look out.Our bus had a worn mechanism and the sliding door fell off on to the road when an escort failed to latch the door right back-the door slid forward and fell off its runners. If you buy a well used example check this out-the doors get a lot of use.The repair cost £1500-the local Volunteer Bureau was not pleased. An electric step which slides out from under the vehicle will not give this problem. The snag is that the door runs along a section of track inside the step when it is closed. When the door is open there is a gap in the track. You may also need to dismantle a ramp or lift from the back.Although the mileage may be low the vehicle is likely to have done a lot of short slow journeys with many stops and starts.

Don't worry - ignore this idiot who is trying to advertise something. I have previously hidden that post but it became visible again. Hidden again.

Good luck with the new car when you get it.

School run driver managed to sc***e the bumper of our second car today, and has agreed to pay for any repair. Being a reasonable sort of chap, I don't want to hit her with a vicious bill, so I was looking at one of these smart repair companies, who can repair such a scuff for £60-80 or so.

Has anyone used Autoscratch in particular, as they seem to be reasonably priced?... Read more

Just to add that this is only a 2003 Space Star, worth not a great amount, but the car is in very nice condition generally and it would be a shame to let it degenerate.

Just aquired a 2004 Ford Focus before that I had an old N reg Micra

My question relates to the fresh air intake on the car. When driving there never seems to be all that much fresh air entering the cabin. The car soon feels a bit stuffy until I turn on the blower then I get plenty of fresh air.... Read more

I changed the tatty and twig littered pollen filter yesterday.

Maybe this is how modern cars are. I never noticed much fresh air entering the Micra whereas in my old transporter fresh air piles in.

Had my C class serviced recently and the dealer mentioned that it was recommended at 50000 or 5 years. It makes sense to me although I have owned and driven Mercedes in the past well past this ( over 100,000) without any adverse effects.
