Got a hissing sound on occasions from the brakes which disappears when the pedal is applied...is this just the vacuum filling or something else? Read more
I had something similar on the Xsara, also a diesel. It was some sort of air leak on the brake servo (mounted on the back of the braking master cylinder). It didn’t seem to affect brake assist, but I had it replaced. I advise that you get this checked out soon. I have since read about other makes of car suffering the same problem. The original servo was a Bosch, which is likely to be the standard fit on European built cars of this age.
could somebody please tell me which fuse controlles the windscreen washers please. both mine have sopped working.front and back. the wife ran it dry, not sure how long it was dry for. would this cause any problems. the car is 51 plate Read more
Hi,I am running a Sierra 2.3 diesel diff assy and driveshafts on the rear of my trike. The driveshafts are the push in type as opposed to the ones that bolt onto the flange on the diff.I noticed today that the outer boot, nearest the hub is split is on one side.
I know how to get the driveshafts out,but can someone tell me how to get the joints of off each end of the shaft as I have no idea.I will replace both, the inner and outer ones whilst it is apart. Can you buy just the boots????... Read more
If you only want to repair the boot you might consider using a stretch boot. I saw these on ebay about a week ago while looking for something else. Not tried it myself but might be worth a try before taking the tripode joints apart.

When i am changing gear in my W reg 206 1.9 LX D the engine is shaking. It is like an engine judder but with no ill effects on power or acceleration. The engine is idling and performing well with the exception of gear changes. Could this be the engine/gear mountings or something else?
Any help is much appreciated Read more

Hi all
Have had this problem with the car since I bought it around two years ago! The air con does not work at all although the light on the button lights up. The air does not blow very forcefully out of the vents no (regaardless of whether the air con is on or off) until the recirculated air button is pressed the fan then kicks in and blows air out a more forcefully. Not sure if this is an air con problem or a problem with the air flow in general. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!... Read more
The filter is a renewable item just like an engine air filter.Located under the plastic panel, just in front of the n/side wiper blade. Not difficult to change, but it is important to retain a good seal of mastic where the panel touches the windscreen otherwise you will get wet feet when it rains.hth
My W reg 106 would not start this morning after so far a faultless ownership. It didnt respond well to a jump start but worked after a stern push and bump start. Since then it chases low revs and bounces between 1000 and 2500 at idle. During the drive into work the radio kept cutting out and the rev counter and speedo kept dropping to zero before performing normally. After parking at work 40 mins later the car would not start and is completely dead, somewhat scuppering a trip North which is now underway on the train. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me whether this is likely to be an alternator or a battery issue or something more sinister? Read more
Could be either or could be a faulty connection. Check the voltage across the battery terminals, you should have about 12 volts, if you have but its still dead you have a connection problem, possibly the battery connections themselves or the earth lead to the engine.
If the battery is flat it could be the battery itself or the alternator, if you can get it running there should be about 14 volts across the battery if the alternator is OK.
My VW garage recently drained the transmission fluid from my DSG and replaced both the oil and filter. However, they said the oil would have to cool to 31 degrees before they could drain it. Needless to say my car was in the garage for 6 hours cooling down -- I had only driven 7 miles from a cold start to the garage, which in theory, shouldn't have truly brought the oil up to operating temperature. The garage states this is VW's policy for DSGs. Has anyone else heard of this please? Read more

Yup, Bentleys do break down.
My Pa's Blower did so, at the top of the St Bernard Pass in 1946 and was towed by horse to the local blacksmith....
