For those of you who are aware of the current Mazda problems whether it be the famous DPF problem to tyre wear & valves snapping off - i have waited long enough for a government agency to do something about it after ignoring all of our complaints and stories.... Read more

The problems seem to be with Mazda diesels, usually just after the 3-year warranty has expired. Mazda petrol engines, like other Japanese petrol engines, are very reliable.

Energy should be free be it petrol diesel electricity gas etc.Wy should a minority charge the majority for energy which we need.I wonder how many inventions have been surpressed for not using oil.I know we can argue that people have to be paid who work in the energy industrie which is right we al need money to live or we end up in a cardboard box. There must be a better way to use energy or a different way there be somebody out there who knows the one with the little grey cells.Just a thought.

Just so you know, I know very little about engines! I have a 1999 Mazda MX5, which has done 75,000 miles. About a week ago it started making a rattling noise when accelerating at low revs, and I thought nothing of it, it just sounded like the exhaust as loose or something. Yesterday it got a lot worse and sounded like it was coming from the engine. I checked the oil and it was almost out, despite the car being serviced only 2 months ago and no signs of a leak. I filled the oil and tried driving to a local garage but within a mile it stalled when the revs dropped low, so I called the AA.

The garage has said their engineer has looked and the cam shaft is fine, and is convinced it's something in the bottom end which they can fix by stripping the engine for £1,700. Does this sound like a reasonable price, and is it likely that they will be able to fix it? Read more

Hmmm, that was what I was thinking!

turns out my timing belt snapped 2 days after i bought my car, so the garage will strip it all down tommorrow to see the extent of the damage, but they have recommended it may be more economically viable to get a new engine

my question is, the engine in there now is a DW8 1.9D but due to the popularity of the HDI engines in the french cars these days i might be able to pick up a turbo diesel engine cheaper... Read more

My daughters Almera Tino 2.2 Diesel wouldn't start. On investigation I found that when I turned the key the starter turned but not the engine as if the starter was not engaging.I had the starter overhauled and the same thing happened.I took the vehicle to the place that repaired the starter. They checked it again and found all ok.This afternoon they informed me that the ring gear has moved about an inch from where it should be.Has anyone ever come across this problem and any advice will be appreciated. It is an X reg/2000 model with 98000 miles. Why would anyone want to spend £14k or want a "nice" Galaxy for lugging stuff around? I'd not spend more than £2300.

For boxy shaped items an older Berlingo Multispace would be a dream. For easy roofrack loading plus interior space I'd still look amongst the old Volvos, though beware of a diesel and what expenses this could encur in parts. Still a good selection of Omegas left around too.

Do you think Is the 36 mpg in city an acceptable consumption,or is it to high for a 1.9 pdtdi Bora 6 speed,130 bhp?

I'd be lucky to get 32mpg out of my diesel Octavia for such a short journey.

Unless you are disabled, walking might be better for you and the car.
