Is it true that run-flat tyres cannot be repaired if punctured ?

I have had quite a few beemers prior to this run-flat obsession, and was thinking of going back to BMW but the run-flats still put me right off. Read more

Don't know about that, but they give a dreadful ride, I would fit a set of ordinary wheels and tyres, the higher profile the better.

Have these officers the power to clock you for speeding? When I see one ahead I check my speedo and ensure I'm within the speed limit but I've seen many motorist taking absolutely no notice of them.So I wondered if they can directly book you or whether they just inform the nearest police patrol if they see a speeder. I think the question is really 'would you be happy for your wife and children to be stood ( or sat) on the hard shoulder of a motorway, in the dark after a breakdown?'

Hato's or wombles as we call them, arrive very quickly, never leave a female alone on the hard shoulder and do a very good job for lorry drivers....

OK not a great day so far, not expecting it to get better but here's my tail of woe.

Nissan Almera Tino 1.8 on a 53 plate has done about 75,000 miles and in the last month it has started chucking a small amount of smoke out the back, whitish grey colour definitely not black.... Read more

I have had nearly 48 years of incident free motoring. On a recent journey back home to North Norfolk from Devon my husband and I were caught by a ' safety camera' on the A303. I am unfamiliar with this road so even with a map reference I cannot identify who was driving st the time. The photos are inconclusive but the enlarged one they sent was the second one taken and has no speed on it. The image of the passenger appears to have been pixilated out and the drivers face digetally enhanced but my husband and I look extremely alike and it is still not clear who was driving at the time. We are both in our 60's and we change drivers on a very regular basis on long and unfamiliar journeys. he also has a medical condition which make sitting in one position for a long time hard. The police are telling me that as the registered keeper I have to supply details of the driver. I cant as I genuinely cant remember. They have refused to send me a copy of the photo with the speed on it unless I pay £10 and are going to issue me with a summons for the Offence of Failing to Furnish Details of the driver. I am really frightened by this and dont know what to do next. I would be most grateful for some advice. Thank You Read more

I have a problem with the central locking on my 07 plate Galaxy. The rear near side door will not unlock and the child locks are active due to us having two young children. This means we can now not open the door. I have tried locking and unlocking over and over, pushing and pulling the door whilst trying to unlock, and also pulling out the internal lock whilst pulling the external door handle. Still no luck. There appears to be power getting to the lock as you can hear movement in the lock location, but nothing happens. The locking switch also jumps back in as soon as you pull it out and also tries to move when using the key fob suggesting something may be jammed but trying to work. I can not get the internal panel off as the screws are only accessable with the door in the open position.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Read more

Update to the above post.

Suspected the problem was not a common fault judging by the lack of response to the post, so the car went in to the main dealer. Got it back yesterday all fixed and as luck would have it, the door decided to open when they tried repeatedly locking/unlocking it(as had already tried myself with no success). Fault diagnosed as the solonoid in the switch mechanism so all replaced as it is one unit. (At least the door panel was left intact as the door could be opened to remove the screws properely) Anyway quite relieved as expected a very hefty bill but ended up just being the part cost and two hours labour. So overall good result, but disappointed with such a failure on a car just over 3 yrs old.

This has been done to death over the last few months. Although I agree about 'blade quality' It's almost certainly wax or grease on the windscreen.
Some polishes are renowned for causing this problem.
Also, over the last 35 years I've always used 'Fairy Liquid' as screen wash. I've never had a washer pump fail, nor had any rubber damage around a windscreen.
Reason is I used to do a lot (a real lot) of Motorway miles for work, and would not have been able to afford the proper stuff during the winter.
Good Luck.

Hey guys - please help! ... particularily from gearbox/clutch knowledge/ mechanics/specialists/ for 1.6 HDi (I believe 2.0 HDi- engine is quite different?)

I was attempting the difficult screw on the end of the 1.6 HDi air filter case (year 2004) when the 4mm Allen key fell into the inspection hole (or whatever function) at the top of the clutch housing, almost directly below... the key is not in sight.

At present I see no way to get it out without dismantling by a garage for a 'clutch change' - and it would need transporting as I am scared to run the engine in case it jams the allen key...

Ok - any other solutions/good ideas?

I have taken off the under-engine pan - nothing useful seen except am horrified by how small is the clearance between flywheel teeth and the casing - bang goes my hope that maybe I could either forget about it, or find clearance to fish it out... No way. (and 'bang' would, I think, be the result if I started up the engine...)

One crazy idea: if this is just 'air space' inside the casing at the lowest point- could I drill a large enough hole in the alloy to fish for it? (I know - ridiculous. just desperate...)

1) Can anyone advise serious, more do-able possibilities? Mechanics/specialists: - it must have happened to someone else at some time... (but I guess you charged owner for a new clutch... ??!!)

2) What is expected clutch life on this diesel? (Car has 62,000 miles and clutch SEEMS fine...).
Is there any way to check/test clutch remaining life/wear without dismantling?
(If clutch really 'about to go', then this is perhaps the answer).

3) Can anyone point to - or forward - an exploded diagram/ workshop manual/ whatever/ of these components? I googled all I could imagine - have found nothing for Xsara Picasso 1.6 HDi (only 2.0 HDi) - or is there a same/similar engine/gearbox layout in another car that I might find diagram?

Ok - hoping for your help ASAP...(!) My car is immobilised until a solution is found! :-(
Many thanks...!! Read more
