I have an intermittent start problem on this car in the respect that if I have started first time, gone about my business, turn off and lock up then go back to the car in an hour it doesn't start and I have to wait a few hours for it to 'reset' then attempt to restart which most times it does. Ive noticed this also when I go back into it to retrieve something without starting then it won't start a short while after that.

I started thinking immobiliser but all the dash signs (i.e. the red flashing light) indicates this is working correctly as advised by a guy on 'Just Answer' website. The remote key has been checked by Ford and so has the system and its had a PCM reset to no avail. It locks and unlocks fine and will give the same problem with the standard (non remote) key. Ford didnt come across the non start problem but presumably they did all the checks inside half an hour so it didnt show up. I even thought is it a mobile phone interferring with the cars system!... Have recently called my local Ford and have been told they do not carry out full reinstall but only do updates. Does anyone know if this is the case?

In March 2009, I purchased a Jaguar Approved Used Car from Guy Salmon, Jaguar main dealer in Northampton.
The car, a 4.2 S Type R, first registered in March 2004, had done 17,000 miles at purchase and has now covered just 29,000 miles. The car has been fully serviced by Jaguar main dealers throughout its life and was last serviced 2000 miles ago.
The car is currently sitting in Lancaster, Sidcup, Jaguar main dealers, having suddenly started making an extremely loud knocking noise from the engine. The dealer diagnosed a crankshaft bearing failure and thus the need for a new engine as repair would be uneconomical.
With a car having covered just 29,000 miles and just 3 months out of warranty, I do not exepct to have to pay for a new engine. Jaguar customer services and Guy Salmon from whom the car was purchased refuse to accept any responsibility though Jaguar have offered a goodwill gesture due to the low milage of 50% of the cost of the engine, leaving me to pay all labour and ancillaries and the remaining 50% - a bill of £4995.
Having purchased an approved used car with full Jaguar service history, I find it totally unacceptable to have to replace the engine at my expense at such a low mileage and so soon after end of warranty.
My expectation is that Jaguar accept moral responsibility and replace the engine fully at their cost.
Any advice would be appreciated as to how to proceed further.

Agree with Bonzo Dog. You need to negotiate but you won't get a fully paid up repair on a vehicle of this age form either the dealer or Jaguar.

Anyone know if there is any facelifts/upgrades etc. for the Vauxhall Insignia for 2010/2011 models. Read more

I would have thought it a bit too soon for a facelift. Certainly anything significant.

That said, have you noticed how the daylight running lights on some Insignias are bright white LED type and others are the older tungsten/"normal" bulb style?...

Its a matter of negotiation - you have a substantial amount of loss of use so there are grounds for some compensation there but they seem to have provided a replacement vehicle?

My feeling is you will probably find it easier to negotiate an acceptable replacement vehicle than get a refund. Any claim against the dealer for a refund could take time and end up in court and will be beyond small claims limits so could also be expensive. And would mean you would still be driving the vehicle....

Great news. I know there has been loads of rumours of late about the Jazz Hybrid / CVT etc but now its 100% official.

Honda have announced that the last batch of I-Shifts will roll off production in November with the CVT replacing it almost immediately. The Jazz Hybrid will also be available to order for early 2011.... Read more

hi, ive recently had my turbo changed on my ford focus 07 tdci. along with a new oil feed pipe and banjos as i was informed. but since its been done, now and again when im accelerating, i hear a deep noise, like the suck of an induction kit or air from a blown exhaust. im not loosing power at all! i made sure i checked the old turbo for missing parts so they hadnt been sucked into the engine, but the turbo was intact, but there had been a slight wear on the rotar blades?? any advice would be very much appreciated ! many thanks ! My electronic key (which doubles as a remote control for the locks) suddenly one day ceased to function - luckily at home where I could get the spare key. It isn't the batteries. I have been told I need to pay £240 for a new one. isn't there anywhere I can get the key re-programmed? Read more
