Hi There,
I have a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 which is on an 05 plate. On Friday i was travelling down the motorway at 70mph when tne engine management light came on. It started flashing and the car was losing power. I pulled over and called the RAC. Initial diagnosis was the ignition coil. However a new one didnt work. A neighbour who is a mechanic has stripped the engine has said the there are bent valves in the head and the exhaust camshaft has snapped. There may be more damage underneath
Is this a common problem? The car has done 76,000. The first 3 services were by Vauxhall but then i got my neighbour to do them.
Can i get any money back from Vauxhall as all the things ive read on the internet it seems to be a known problem?
Thanks

Hi, My tigra has done the exact same thing to me on sunday and i am fighting with Vx to try and get them to repair and pay the costs. If i had recieved the letter a few weeks earlier i could have had the problem looked at and it would never have escalated to the problem it is now....they have known about this problem for months.... the guy looking at my car has even said to me that when they do the service they dont check for loose cam shaft bolts so it wouldnt have been spotted either and he works for Vx and has told me not to pay a penny cos he wouldnt...!!!!!!!
My faith in Vx has gone also they pass you from pillar to post saying they will be in touch and you hear nothing back....... never again will i buy a Vx and will advise any one i know not too.. x
This is my last ditched attempt before the hubby loses the plot!!!
Please advice needed!... Read more
PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On mine it was the nr 1 Injector, that have a sensor on it,, a friend had same problem, eas solved with the injector too.ITS A DREAM TO DRIVE AGAIN...
My 1998 106 has just failed the MOT on the following.
Service brake efficiency below requirements [3.7.A.9]
Offside Rear brake recording little or no effort [3.7.A.4a]
The RBT Service Brake Efficiency was recorded at 49%
The MOT Tester said that it probably only needed to be cleaned out. I have removed the drum, brushed out all dust and cleaned the drum with brake cleaner. This has not made any difference.
When I apply the hand brake or the foot brake, the passenger side wheel is locked, but the drivers side can still be turned.
I have not lost any brake fluid and there are no signs of any leakage round the wheel cylinder. The brake shoes look in good condition and the lining thickness is well within that specified in the manual.
I just can't see what else the problem could be that would cause both hand and foot brake to be less effective on one side than the other. Any ideas or suggestions, very much appreciated. Read more
Getting the right cylinders and shoes can be a real nightmare on Peugeot's and Citroen's. There seems to be so many different types of brake system and variants. I often think many of these cars were made up of spare parts.....
Stepson called round the other day to show off his brand new Fiat Punto. Lovely car, and he was delighted with it. I was wondering if any back roomers knew what car dealers use to dress the tyres. I always use Autoglym tyre dressing but it isn't anywhere near as glossy.
I really must get out more :) Read more

More or less vain than polishing the bodywork?
Does it infringe on any legal requirement if you remove the DPF? Read more
Thanks Avant having to change my e mail addres having problems. My new name will be foppo.
I have recently bought a Ford Focus, that I am reasonably happy with in most areas bar two. One is the hopelessly cheap interior (which I can live with), but the other is the offset pedals.
This is something I didn't pick up on the test drive, and I think I was blinded to it by the universally positive reviews of this car (reviews that, having driven it for a while, I don't necessarily agree with, but that's another story). As I am stuck with this car now for the foreseeable future I have to live with this (and hope that the discomfort subsides), but I was wondering if there were any aftermarket pedals that can mitigate the situation.... Just realised I'd already relayed the above information....
One thing I will say -- I'd never had sciatica before (I didn't even know what it was -- the first I knew about about the condition was agonising pain). It became a very painful problem almost immediately after I bought the car, and went away within a few weeks of fixing the fault. It has not returned. Make of that what you will....
hi guys,
i was excited to have got a vw sharan, but i'm already having a very irritating issue which i'm hoping some expert can advice me on.
Since i bought it, the vw every so often has been giving off like an unburnt/exhaust diesel smell which is coming into the cab and making us feel sick.
So far I have got the garage to:-
1. change the cabin/pollen, air, fuel, oil filters and oil.
2. checked the mpv underside, including exhaust for any issues - none found!
3. jet blasted and cleaned any oil/dirt/grease from the engine.
The damn smell is still there!
Only today i have realised that the smell might be coming from something called an Auxillary/Booster heater which has its own little exhaust pipe. This aux heater or booster heater is located on the nearside, just under the first back 3 seats.
After reading some info on the net, I found that you can disconnect the electrical plug (found next to the heater) and this should stop it from working.
But the smell of fresh diesel is still there!... Read more
hi not sure if u have had problem sorted, but here goes if you have disconnected water heater and there is no diesel or oil leaks from engine it might be worth trying cleaning air con system you can buy a bomb to put in car ,air con can give foul smells in a car, hope this helps all so can you smell the same smell under the bonnet or just inside the car
One day my 1996 Mazda MX5 Monaco (that's the options-free economy 1.6 model) will do a faultless 500-mile round trip and the following day it will break down every 300 yards.
The engine will just stop running whether it is ticking over or on the move.... Read more
Its sweet to see so many caring responses to your MX5 problem. Having said that, I sometimes wonder whether such deluges of well-meant advise actually help people with their technical problems or slow down their resolution. Perhaps in the end a forum like this is for people who need a hand to hold while they muster the courage to call a professional. Now I think about it - I've been there too.

Hi - just posting to update and announce the death of my C3.
The problem got considerably worse within a short space of time and took to randomly going into "snow mode", causing the car to lose revs and go into economy mode? It was eventually towed to my friends' garage where it has been for a few weeks. He wasn't able to detect any fault with it unless and until it cut out whilst being driven, so he took it out several times and each time, it lost revs and rolled slowly to a halt whilst the mechanic panicked and prayed he wouldn’t be ploughed into by the HGV’s following him....
It can be a messy job so my theory is that the main dealer couldn't be bothered.
