As it was known by Mrs O - although as the miles and failures mounted she was not so complimentary.
It might have been due to those narrow front tyres locking and skittering at most modest speeds when braking on damp roads on a nearby minor road downhill stretch - where you have to halt before passing under a bridge. Never has much power (200nm) carried so much weight - through such skinny tyres - and only lasted 7,000 miles - since Julius Ceasar attempted to invade Scotland with Black Pudding as tyres on his chariot.... Can anyone help me, i have a very annoying rattle coming from somewhere it seems worse when going slow,it seems to start at the front off side front and travel through the whole of the car from front to back, symtoms seem very similar to a loose exhaust system but took it to local National Tyre Depot yesterday and they said the exhaust was ok,they had it jacked up on the ramp and spun all 4 wheels and they did not think it was a wheel bearing, their conclusions was rust on the discs which i dont think it is,i have cleaned the spare wheel well out and checked jack and wheel brace and they are firmally in place.I have bounced the 2 front suspensions legs up/down and there is no noise from them. Its a real head scratcher,so if their is anyone on the forum got any ideas i would be very grateful for any HELP.

Car runs fine untill it reaches oil temp of 88 - 90 degrees according to dash display.
The car then dies.... Read more
Very strange, the only thing I can suggest is that it has an excess oil temperature cut out which is malfunctioning - but I don't even know if such a thing exists. See if you can find a VW dedicated forum.
I am coming to the time when I can apply to have 3 points removed from my licence. The robbing carphounds at DVLA want £20 for doing this. However, I note that a re-issue of a licence for a change of address is free.
If I did an address change, after the date of the points of expiry, is there any chance that the licence would come back with the points removed, automatically? Read more
Potentially a fine of £1000 for providing an incorrect address to the DVLA but unlikely they would pick it up or prosecute for it.
My 2005 Subaru Forester 2.0 N/A (EJ20) has covered just shy of 60K miles and is due a replacement can belt according to the service schedule. I am not a mechanic but would like some feedback on the following.
Firstly I note from other cam belt questions that it is often recommended that the pulleys and tensioner is also replaced as these seem to fail even when the belt has been replaced. Is this necessary, advisable or recommended for this engine?... Read more
You are correct always get the full kit for the cam belt not just the belt.
The price from UK dealers give your local one a call and say that sound too dear......
Hi everyone,
You may have read my posts as well as many others, but please read on. ... Read more

I had the stepper motor cleaned during a service and the problem has gone.
I borrowed a brand new Golf VI GT (I believe its the 140bhp diesel but could be wrong) according to the press, I was expecting a Focus beater with a beautiful interior. Well, the leather seats looked nice but weren't particularly comfortable, the car had nasty scratchy plastic door handles, the dash was neat but nothing out of the ordinary - which describes the whole cabin really.
On start up I was greeted by the usual diesel clatter, I can't say it ever went away - I could always hear the gruff rattly diesel under the bonnet, it went pretty well - plenty of grunt after the initial off-boost lag, again I wasn't impressed with the refinement.... Read more
HUM: a car which will accommodate two dogs, handle occasional rough tracks and ride comfortably?
FWIW, I live up a dirt track, own two dogs, used to drive a CX and regularly do a 650 mile round trip between the UK and France in one stint. Try a Subaru Legacy. Works for me (and the dogs like it, too)....
Hi all,
This evening I have come home to a letter from a police force two counties away from where I live telling me that they saw a car registered ALMOST to me (surname spelt slightly wrong) of the same make, model and colour as mine but with a very different number plate (2 1/2 years older) doing 51 in a 30.... Read more
There is an identical silver Golf to ours locally with one digit (the last one) difference in the registration plate. One is an E and one is an F, so well within the realms of an ANPR screw up as well! :-)
Hi all,
I've just bought a 58 plate diesel Corsa and have a couple of questions on it::... Read more

Never quite that bad, but in 2003 I replaced the wife's 7 year old Vitara with a Citroen Picasso. The Vitara had never put a wheel wrong, but never really felt stable on the motorway, and with a youngster in tow a new 'family' car made the ideal birthday present.
With less than 200 miles on the clock the integrated radio stopped working. This would be start of a 'long road' of faults - I recall seven radios, three replacement instrument panels, and umpteen 'software patches'....
