I have just started with broadband at home and would like to know if I should leave the router switched on all the time or is it ok to unplug it when I am not using the computer. I would appreciate your advice. Thanks.

I always unplug my modem from the BT socket just in case something detrimental comes up the line. This was a habit ithat came from the savagery of lightning strikes in South Africa where I lived for a couple of decades.

I am surprised how much has been posted through the door - either flyers or actual letters. Each party with a fighting chance of winning the seat where I am at the moment have done this several times now. It is all costing us.

Having said that... nobody has knocked on the door (yet)....

Yes and no... it doesn't have to be "sent off", you can get it changed at your local DVLA office (plenty scaterred around the country)... I did it when I purchased an Escort that was "tax free"... just took the apropriate forms, insurance and money and got a new tax disk within the appropriate band... the V5 then comes to you showing the new tax band...

Look it up on the direct gov site, it tells you what to do....

fuel gauge not working. The needle doesn't move with ignition on or off. I only picked it up yesterday so haven't had chance to familiarise yet.

Can anyone suggest the obvious places to look?... Read more

I've found a wiring diagram on-line and they appear to share the same fuse as a number of warning lights which I know are working (at least they show when I first turn on the ignition so I assume they are working). However, the temp and fuel gauges are fed from the fuse, through a voltage regulator. So I'm guessing it is the voltage regulator failed or a lead off this.

Anyone know where this is hidden?

after some help from backroomers,i took my car into budget to have the exhaust center section replaced , it was replaced and i took the car away this was two weeks ago , over the next few days i noticed a exhaust blow start to appear, i took it back to the same branch and spoke to the guy who had carried out the work,he put it up on the ramp and we both checked the exhaust and agreed it was blowing on the front joint were it bolts onto the cat,he said to give him 20 minutes and it would be sorted,i arrived back 30 minutes later he told me it was a faulty gasket and that it was all sorted i drove the car away it sounded ok, today while driving the car the blowing noise has returned,i really have lost all faith in budget now and having used them for years after kwik fit failed to comply to a warranty claim, i cant find a customer helpline number listed for budget and really dont want to deal with my local branch again, also i have heard a rumour saying that kwik fit own budget, which in my opinion if true would explain the downturn in customer care and satisfaction Read more

Honda's own exhaust parts aren't too expensive.

Bit late for that advice I guess ;-)

On removing the throttle control valve for cleaning, would I be wrong in appling a smeer of copper ease around the gasket on re-application? I will torque the bolts correctly as per the manual. Also, can WD40 be used as an alternative to carb spray in cleaning out the valve, or may this cause more problems? Thanks guys again. Greg Read more

Would copper grease do the seal any good, or would an alternative gasket sealer be more suitable for this purpose?

Yes, the 140 in the model name refers to the bhp. The 170 is faster but the 140 is perfectly adequate.

this strange rattling sound is doing my head in! it only happens at certain temperature, usually as the engines warming up, its silent when its warm..

heres a quick video of the sound,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5_WtzAJIMQ

it sounds almost like static and is coming from around the auxillary area, could it be the tensioner??

i thought it was baffles in the exhaust but this has been checked,

im sure someone must have heard it before!

cheers Read more

If it is the cam belt/tensioner then you won't be hearing it for long, and it'll cost you a £1,000 or so. Regards Peter

I have a 2009 S-Max 2.0 TDCi that I purchased 3 weeks ago through Ford Direct. After a week of ownership, the noisy became much noiser sounding like something was blowing in the engine.

The car went into my local Ford dealer this week where they found that an intercooler pipe had become disconnected.... Read more

Yes, I'm calling the garage back first thing in the morning. Hopefully they'll sort it this time.
