I have noticed that one of my rear tyres is wearing on the inside. The car has done 140K. Any ideas what it is and whether it is worth fixing? Read more

Morning All,

My best mate had just bought a crash pad close to his new job and was seeking some recommendations as to how to run a minimal set up for DVDs and MP3 music. He intends buying a decent TV, but wanted to run DVDs and MP3 straight from his laptop. He would need a decent amp / speaker system to support this but again he wants to keep size and boxes to a minimum.... Read more

Is he considering Blu Ray at all - because if he is it may affect his choice of hardware?

I find my 3 year old top-of-the-range-then cinema amp struggles with some of the audio options available on some Blu Ray discs. I find some discs have to be set for more basic Dolby / DTS audio, otherwise it falls back to two channel stereo!...

I use about 2000 litres of home heating of oil each year, is there any way to find out what the equivalent usage in gas consumption would have been.

I am finding it hard to really compre the running costs. Here in N. Ireland we only have one gas company so there is very little competition apart from between oil and gas.... Read more

Thank you that is exactly what I had been trying to find out. I reckon that the oil over the last year was about £1400.

You know the scenario. The car park is filled with the sound of rubber-graunching-tarmac, accompanied by that unforgettable siren-song as yet another hydraulic pump and 1,500 psi of mineral oil tries in vain to turn 450mm of stationary rubber, only pausing to let out that characteristic 'moan' as the rack finally reaches the end of its travel and the whole sorry cycle begins again.

Personally I only like to turn the steering wheel when the car is moving, even if only just moving. Maybe it's because I learnt on a car without PAS, or perhaps it's some subconcious 'mechanical sympathy' thing.... Read more

Power steering makes it easier to turn the wheel - and consequently easier to cause excessive wear and damage - when the car is stationary.
