hi, i have a nissan primera 2l 16v se+ 1999, the other week the engine management light came on but the car run fine, so the other day i had it put on a computer to find out what was wrong, it came back with bank 1 lambda sensor down (was told this was the 1 on the top of the manifold) so drivin around yest to see if i could find 1, as i was driving around it started playing up and wouldnt rev over 4k rpm and was abit spluttery, then it dropped down to 2k rpm and struggled to get up over a small bridge, i managed to get the car home and today i brought a universal 3 wire lambda sensor and fitted it, but the engine management light still on and it still not running right, i started the car and it ticked over on around the 1k rpm but when reved spluttered up to around 2k and then dropped just below 1k rpm and was verry spluttery

thanks... Read more

Hi all im new here, just got a 54 plate 1.7cdti last week.

It has 55k on clock and im a little concerened there may be the begginings of a problem with the gearbox. When I lift clutch to set off the gear lever moves/wobbles/rattles side to side as it engages. It doesnt try to 'jump' out just goes side to side, does this indicate its on its way out or is it normal? It doesnt move when its in gear and im moving, just as it engages.

Thanks for any replies. Read more

It may get worse until you feel compelled to do something about it - on the other hand it might stay as it is, or if its the clutch even improve.

Anyone have an idea as to why the A/C on my 54 plate Octavia II has started to sound like an old fridge. Two very distinct noises, one a gurgling sound which is constant when the A/C is on the other a low hum which comes and goes but can be felt as a vibration through the dash centre panel. Both of these can only be heard in the car as engine noise outside masks them and stop when the A/C is switched off. I am hoping it is not a compressor as that looks to be both a common and expensive problem.

I need to get from M11 to Chiswick tomorrow night, arriving Chiswick around 8pm. Routes would seem to be:1. M25; 2. North Circular; 3. Central London

Anyone have any particular thoughts or advice they can give as to which might be best at that time of night?... Read more

I would probably choose M11/NCR. Whichever route you choose is liable to severe delays at that time; you need to be flexible when driving in London!

The North Circ should be fairly free from traffic between the M11 and Wood Green although there are sometimes delays around Edmonton. There will then be traffic from Wood Green until the next bit of dual (usually about 10- 15 minutes all told. You might be lucky on the approach to Hangar Lane and will be held up a bit towards Ealing....

Hi - I've a 1998 Escort 1600 Zytec that has started to run erratic. The problem started about 6 months ago. After about an hour of driving the car appeared to lose power (like it was on 3 cylinders) as soon as you put the accelerator to the floor it cleared and was OK. This got quite frequent and I realised that if I switched off the ignition and then switched it back on it cured it. I called in to a Ford agent in Matlock to get a part for my wife's Focus and mentioned this problem to the parts guy. He said it was a common fault and sold me a sensor which was fitted next to the water temperature sender. This didn't cure the problem. Before I forget, the temp gauge rarely reaches 1/4 way up the gauge except in town. The problem has now developed further and, now and again, the revs stay up (about 2-3000 rpm) when I change gear. Also when I start it up from cold the revs rise and then fall without touching the throttle. Mechanically, the car is in very good condition and goes like a 1600 should. It doesn't use oil or water. This is an old car and I don't want throw money at it on a 'suck it and see' basis. Has anybody had the same experience and could please point me in the right direction for curing this problem? I had a water leak at the front of my car, I asked a garage to have a look. They said it was the radiator, so they they replaced it. The car still has a leak, should I still have to pay for them to fix the leak ? Read more

The two alternators are completely different. They won't interchange.

If this abomination from Geely becomes a reality it will probably hand the London taxi market to any rival manufacturer on a plate! www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/geely-reveals-new-london-taxi/248783/pictures/geely-reveals-new-london-taxi.aspx

The interior looks good though. Geely are taking over manufacture of the current London taxi design from Manganese Bronze, so it seems this chubby thing is possibly the planned replacement for the TX1. Read more

As the MINI and those PT C's are based on 50s looks then I suppose that figures!

I stand by what I said before, though, as a taxi cab design its useless!
