Help!!! Last night the tailgate on my 2005 Cherokee KJ wouldn't open, took a look at it just now from the access hole. The lever inside feels like its moving ok, but when the key fob is used I can't hear the lock open. Anyone know what the problem may be? All the fuses look ok, could it be a faulty relay somewhere? I need a replacement engine for my 2003 vectra c 2l dti, will a 2l diesel from a vectra b fit Read more
yep it will but you wil need to swap harness, ecu's (immo) and the chip from the keyand possibly the cim, unless your fuel pump is okay in which case you can swap the pump to the donor engine and then fit it, Regards TB
When does the timing belt need to be changed - mileage? Read more
Thanks for your reply. Great - I've got some miles to go!
I just had to replace my glow plugs again, they were only done in September which seems far too short a time. The time before they only lasted for about 9 months. Is this normal for this age of car? I use Bosch which are supposed to be a good brand.
The plugs were black and looked like the end was melted. Does anyone know what could cause that?... Read more
...or it could be that you glow plug relay is sticking on.
My polo is not starting well when cold. The glow plug light comes on briefly, but when the car is started it takes a few seconds to start and emits lots of white smoke. There is no problem starting when the engine is warm The VW dealer (obviousely) wants me to book it in for them to check and says it will either be a faulty temperature sensor or faulty glow plug. One other complication though, I broke down a few weeks ago and the garage I was towed to checked out the electrics (amongst other things) and I think this has been happening since then (the car was fine to start when I picked it up, but I didn't use it again for 2 weeks as I went straight on holiday). It may just be a coincidence, but does anyone know of anything that they may not have connected back up properly that could cause this problem? Read more
Hi
It looks like the problems I'm experiencing with my car (issue posted in technical forum) may be down to plugs, HT leads and a good service.... Read more

Hi all, I've been lurking around and learning a lot from this forum in recent months. I'd welcome your advice. I have a Golf, but elderly relatives are having some difficulty getting down into it and up out of it. On the assumption that I'm likely to get more on a trade-in with a VW dealer, can anyone offer any advice / experience on how accessible a Tiguan is for older bodies? I know there's a Touran, but it's going to be replaced soon and wouldn't seem a good bet. Any comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks. Read more
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. Sorry for not acknowledging them earlier. I've realised that, on the HJ IPhone app, no posting is possible (great app in other respects, though).
All the best.
My sister-in-law is insured to drive my car. She has been living with us for 6 months and I just found out she has not informed DVLA of the change of address. I believe this to be an offence, but my main concern is if she had an accident, and the insurance company found out, would they then invalidate the insurance? Read more
If you are referring to her driving licence then it is not a problem but do apply to change it. Not changing the V5C Registration Document can lead to a DVLA fine but it does not invalidate the insurance. Regards Peter
Thinking of upgrading at least the driver's seat to a more orthopaedic and robust design such as Recaro or similar. Does anyone know of a decent showroom with knowledgable staff in the Midlands or South-East where it is possible to try out different options? I recall someone in Nottingham claiming to have such a thing a few years back. Internet buying may be cheaper but it is too much of a risk without putting posterior to the padding at the prices proper seats cost. Read more

Get one with an identical number-Ford would not make different ones with the same number.

Not sure about the Jeep but on both my Pajeros I have had this happen to me. I had to ease back the door card and squirt liberal amounts of WD40 into the door space. There are a couple of quadrants which redirect the open and locking mechanism to the rear door catch. Whrere these cross each other they rust together.
If you can reach in to the door cavity you may be able to free the mechanism by hand. Once you have the door open give it a good clean up and a liberal dose of grease on all the moving parts....
