Peugeot 306 diesel 1998-99 - glow plugs burning out - Trishy

I just had to replace my glow plugs again, they were only done in September which seems far too short a time. The time before they only lasted for about 9 months. Is this normal for this age of car? I use Bosch which are supposed to be a good brand.

The plugs were black and looked like the end was melted. Does anyone know what could cause that?

Most likely incorrect injection timing (who last changed the cambelt) or possibly an incorrectly set nozzle if a plug in the same cylinder tends to fail. Beru make the best glowplugs for these engines but Bosch are usually OK. Avoid all others.

I'm assuming it's an XUD rather than an HDi.

...or it could be that you glow plug relay is sticking on.
