I have a 2000 ford fiesta 1.8 td with the endura di engine. It seems to of developed a serious oil leak. This looks to be around the fuel pump pulley so I am 99% it is the oil seal around the pump itself. I know it is a bolt off plate type seal. Just wondering if these can be had away from the main dealers? I cant seem to find them anywhere online. If anyone knows of a place or even a part number / correct name I would be most grateful for the information.
Thanks Read more

Your best bet would probably a secondhand pump, there should be plenty about.

Further to my M4 bristol services slip roads thread:

ever since i can remember the services near Thruxton on the A303 have been closed, coned off and for sale. there are billboards for land and property agents. i have checked their website but can't find a mention of it.
were the services open and if so what was it like? when did it close?

i think this is the ariel photo, shows parked cars but i can't find a date of the image.

A lot of Little Chefs ( and Happy Eaters - remember them?) closed at the same time, a few years ago. ISTR the holding co went into administration.

Quite a few seem to have been resurrected as Indian or Chinese restaurants - a true picture of modern Britain if ever there was one - not that I am complaining!

I have a 2.2 diesel Espace -today the oil light came on, so I drove a couple of miles further on and bought some oil suitable for diesel. I left the engine 30 mins -all I could afford, to cool a little before putting the oil in , then carried on the further 6 mile journey, with the light coming on once and the engine struggling to keep up power.

I was with my client 3 hours, came out, did about 25 miles with no problem, the final 3 miles light on, sluggish -

what is a possible diagnosis.

This engine has done about 60k, but the rest is upto 105k -fortunately I can visit the garage fri am, but appreciate your insight

follow up .....

phew, that was a close one I hope they've fixed it but but transpired to be a faulty thermostat housing resulting in there being no coolant in the expansion tank due to leakages in the housing.. so in total just over £175

There was a major shock though, the N/S/F headlamp cracked and foglight cracked -I hope they don't need replacing prior to MOT

I thought they were taking the mick 834.96 + 120.00 for each light respectively

thanks for the feedback, but fortunately it wasn't as bad as I thought

Tuesday after lunch I had a very tedious trip to a friend's house, it was blasting down with rain, but something in my soul told me that the drive was going to be different. Twenty eight miles, 30 minutes along a mix of rural single and an arterial dual carriageway, nothing special, a trip I've done a hundred times recently. Not the most of inspiring of drives in an uninspiring SUV in horrid weather.

The roads were quiet which was a good start, radio was tuned to Radio 4 for the lunchtime news. Amazingly I was able to drive the roads quite comfortably at the signed or National Speed Limit and as soon as I joined the Dual at a steady 75.

This programme came on and added to the beauty of the drive - listen to it and I defy you not to recognise that there is some joy still left in the world.

Just spotted the news that Subaru are to launch [again?] the Impreza Diesel fine but the proposed price is £20-22k just the same as the Legacy Sports Tourer.

Surely some mistake with the UK price the timing and the £ to the Yen or have our friends in EU not taken to the Impreza Diesel.

Anyone queuing to buy/order one of these ?

That's just silly money for a 150bhp Diesel hatch and more than the old WRX Turbo saloon was selling for. I would have considered one at £17-18K but they can forget it now: Bonkers.

hi, my 52 reg ford focus 1.8tdci has stopped all of a sudden when i parked it up. i tried to start it again but the ignition does even turn over. all the electrics light up on the dash and the hazard lights work and also the power windows. i tried jump starteing it but it still didnt work. i dont know what would be wrong with it.
In addition i left it for around 6 hours and when i went back to tow it, i checked on last time and it started for some strange reason.
I was wondering what the fault could be?
Its been doin this now all the time. It starts sometimes and doesnt other times. But if i was to leave it for say 12 hours it would start in the morning.
Ive also had the battery changed so i know it cant be this
Can anyone help?

I had exactly the same on my 1999 1.8 Focus. I had to replace my starter motor. If its the original motorcraft one it could be knackered. I got one from my local parts shop for 79.99 and they gave me a £10 discount for the old unit so they can recondiiton it.

You could try the 10mm and 13mm bolts on the starter motor to check that they are tight, not coroded and that there is no frayed wires. (disconnect the battery first) The starter motor is in a awkward place at the back of the enginge bay. You have to get underneath the vehicle to get to it and to remove it the bolts holding the motor also hold on some brackets for pipework etc so make sure that all is correct if refitting.

Swmbo came home to say i must buy her an I30.
It's 18 months old.
It's got 10k miles on the clock and in black with black leather.
the dealer wants 12500 for it but looking at hyundai used cars from their website the premium specs come in between £10.5k upto £14k for the same spec and roughly the same mileage.

What is a realistic buying price for a 1-2 yr old car and what can i expect to get off the asking price from an hyundai franchised garage.

i dont want to look at cars for 12k only to waste my time as ive only got 10 thousand to spend in cash and want no loans but she only wants the ones with full leather and deisel. Read more

The only way you'll get an answer is to call the dealer seling the £12.5k one and offer £10k cash.

If you have seen similar ones for £10.5k why not call a dealer selling one of these? I doubt they'll lose a deal for £500.

When did the motor trade, and some apparently private car sellers, start dropping the 'k' or the '000' in their ads? I have been out of the UK for most of the last five years and I don't remember this in adverts before. Now, however, knowing that there are some cars with delivery miles that have been sitting around unsold for a year or so (think Subaru, Honda or even Mazda) it is becoming irritating to ring up about a '20 miles' 2008 car to be told 'No, mate, it is 20,000'. Is it just me that doesn't get the trade jargon? Read more

gordonbennet

Supposing the car turned out to be clocked, could they use this wording of their advert as a get out in some way?

I agree it's annoying andf i wouldn't buy a car advertised like that.
