Looking at a Renault Modus in the supermarket car park yesterday, I noticed that the wipers operate from the centre of the screen outwards so there isn't an unswept area left on one side or the other, usually the passenger's.
It seems so logical I can't see why it isn't universally adopted. The mechanics can't be all that more complex can they?
So is there something I'm missing?

Hello
I understand about Cat C, D etc and VIC checks, but I'd like to know ... why a particular car was written off, i.e what was the damage on the vehicle.
I am very close to buying a `Class C write off; I have been advised (by the guy sellnig the car) it has been storm damaged (hailstones, likely). I'm not doubting him, but having seen the car ... yes there is a bit of peeing of the lacquer (metallic) here and there and a small dent on one wing.
The car would be valued at circa 2.5k so I can't help wondering why was it written off? Okay I know a complete respray is not cheap etc.
So my question is ... is there anywhere I can access a documented record (ideally on the net, even pay for it?) of the details of the actual damage which led to it being written off - Class C?
Alternatively, would I get to see documented details of the damage if / when I take the car for the VIC?
I am concerned there may have been more damage than currently visible etc.
Hope above makes sense, if not and you need more detail just say and I will add it.
Thanks

because the insurance company tick boxes and the reasons are many fold
cost
fraud
hire car charges
parts cost charges
labour charges
previous poor repairs (more common than what you would think)
paint matching difficulties
damage unable to asses till vehicle stripped which incurs additional costs
etc
ive only scratched here, also consider corporate manslaughter charges if previous repairs could be proved to cause a fatal after car returned from second repairs
Hello
Any thoughts on which would be the better buy? Both about 75,000 on clock and full histories ? Both 4 door models. both leather and so forth.
Both seem nice, 530D drove very nicley but I'm worried about long term costs. Have looked at CBC but wondered if anyone here might have experience of both?
Thank you

Main issue with the Honda is that the paint quality is poor and any example with a few miles will have stone chips, scuffs and scratches. No matter how careful you are with them they pick them up easily.
Mine hasn't a mark on it and I have done thousands of miles on motorways. Paintwork is pristine, and I bought it new in March 2004.
Removed alternator drivebelt in order to change cambelt, done cambelt, now refitting everything BUT I can't for the life of me re-fit the alternator drivebelt.
I can't seem to relax the tension on the tensioner in order to fit the belt along it's intended path and then tension the belt.
As far as I can gather, there are 2 tensioners and as the car has A/C I *think* it has the automatic tensioner (there's a vertical spring going upto the tensioner pulley & the square hole in the tensioner assembly that I apparently should insert a 3/8" bar to do the levering) and that I should be able to lever the pulley back, fit the belt and then let pulley spring back into place.
But I can't pivot the pulley. If I loosen some of the bolts (e.g. the torx recessed one) then I get a bit of give in the whole assembly. but still no joy.
I am so close to completing the task. I've spent about an hour on this little task!
any advice much appreciated.
Thanks (in anticipation)

I have a 2004 Ford C-Max 1.6 Ghia (Petrol) owned since new.
The car is still under warranty and I had noticed a steering creak when pulling away very slowly and turning steering either left or right. The creak comes from the direction of the nearside wheel and can be quite clearly heard inside the car.
I asked my local dealer to investigate at the last service and they advised me that the problem is not covered under the warranty.
The problem will only be recitified with a new strut at a cost of £300.
Why is this problem not covered under the warranty?
And do I really need to replace the whole strut as advised?
Any help gratefully appreciated Read more
When you say you have spoken to Fords-did you or do you mean you have spoken to the dealer?.The Ford warranty is for one year by Ford with the next two years covered by the dealer.Any further warranty must be thro' an insurance policy.

Perjury is a serious offence! A lot more than speeding fines.

It does seem harsh when you see what some scumbags get away with, but I think they have to have a tough penalty for perjury because of the deterrent required. If it was just a fine, all the scrotes in the UK would be lying on oath without giving it a thought and the system would collapse.
I do feel a bit sorry for him, but crikey, what was he thinking. It's not like he couldn't have afforded taxis or a chauffeur. Bit of arrogance got the better of him there, I think. Still, look at all the 'celebrities' who seem to get away with not remembering who was driving their car when it was caught speeding. Yes, a legal loophole, I know, but still.
Hi Everyone, my ECU needs to be replaced, £700 dealer has quoted but I have found that I can buy one for £200 fully coded and ready to plug in and go with un-limited mileage warranty. But I need to know where the ECU is actually situated in my car so that I can take it out and get the part number. Can anyone help? And is it really as easy as take old one out and new one in?! have manage to fine the ECU, it is located under the battery cover and housed next to the battery and it is as easy as it sounds to remove and replace :)

Hi everyone - My SAAB 9000 Aero just failed it's MOT as the nearside headlamp apparently had no beam pattern. I went to the scrapyard and bought a replacement but on returning it for a retest they said this one has no beam pattern either! Does anyone know if there could any cause for this other than the headlamp assembly itself? It seems unlikely that two units in a row would have the same failure. I have no idea what to do next and can't afford a brand new headlamp assembly. Thanks very much in advance for any advice/replies. Read more
i would still buy an OSRAM bulb (3 years guarantee) and fit it and try
if not i can only assume you have two off road use headlights from a supplier that sells such tat without e markings (yes i know who but naming and shaming is not allowed )

Yes, it was very clever, wasn't it.
Of course the Citroen BX also had a single wiper but without the fancy pantograph.
