I bought this car from a dealer last month. It was juddering quite badly in reverse at low revs, particularly when reversing up any sort of incline.

After a lot fussing (and me threatening to reject the car) they replaced the flywheel (it's not dual mass) and the clutch, saying that the flywheel was faulty and the clutch wasnt quite aligned properly with the flywheel (something to do with some springs).

Now, I can change gear much more smoothly, BUT there is no change to the car juddering in reverse.

This dealer is 1.5 hours away from me so i'm reluctant to keep going there.

I phoned a local dealer and he said that it's a quirk of the car.
As the flywheel and clutch have been changed there's nothing more they can do.

Could there be any other reason for the whole car to be juddering severly when reversing up a slight incline?

It's absolutely fine going forwards so the clutch must be OK.

During 06 Vauxhall did sell some cars where the flywheel / clutch matterials were substandard and there was a recall - you may like to google "vectra 1.8 clutch judder". If they changed these components then they should have put in the revised version.

Could it just be a case of the new parts wearing in? Maybe take it to a clutch specialist and ask their advice.

Hi,
I have snapped the edge off my rear light casing (by reversing into a skip on my drive-plonker!) The bulbs still work and the plastic over the bulb area is intact except for a crack.
Will it need to be replaced to get through it's Mot next week?
Thanks,
Mike. Read more

I ahd a few problems in the past where my central locking key wouldn't always work on the first press. I sometimes had to press it a few times before it would lock or unlock the car. The other day it decided to stop working alltogether. I have checked the battery and that is ok. Is it possible to reset the key or could there be a different problem with this?

Thanks

From the BBC website coverage of the over-by-over coverage of the ODI series:

BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew on Twitter:
"Put wrong fuel in car - petrol into diesel. Broken down on M1. In tow truck heading north. No chance of getting to The Oval"

That will be pricey... but shows how it can happen to anyone.

We bought a fuel angel, so won't happen to us.

England are playing two spinners at the oval- could be fiery!

Hey, I have recently got told by the auto sparky that my radio was draining my battery and got that sorted: so he took my radio out while the car was there. Now I want to fit in a new radio, the 6000 e.on CD version (double din), and have found that there is spare fittings in the back of the radio and I also have a plug that is the wrong orientation and fitting!!

The sockets i have free on the back of my radio are: the middle vertical slot, and the green almost square one.

The plug that i have left over is a large grey one, female in orientation that has 8 wires going into it.

When i connect the radio with what i have there, the two outside verticals and the antenna i get a backlight on my old radio and neither radio will switch on!

So i have deduced that the sparky has lost one of my old adapters and I have had no luck finding one.

Help would be greatly appreciated!!! Read more

im a bit confused
are you putting in a 6000 radio or something different?
if fitting a 6000 then the ford plugs in the car should just connect in and you ignore the other plugs which are to connect up a 6 cd player

I drove (forwards) into a car park near a tourist attraction. The pay & display machine referred to two times, i.e. "£3.5 to park for over 4 hours before 6 p.m." and "£2 to park after 6 p.m.".

Well, I didn't understand that - if I parked at 4 p.m., and wanted to stay for over 4 hours, should I pay £3.5 and than come back at 6 to pay £2 more, or what?? So, I pondered this, and went in search of an attendant. No-one to be found. This took perhaps 10 minutes. Still no idea of what to pay.

*Then* I noticed the CCTV camera recording number plates, and the "Off-site monitoring" notice.... I decided to park elsewhere, so carefully *reversed* out of the car park.

This'll be interesting. Will the approx. 15 minute stay count as "parking"? What will the parking monitors make of two "going in" shots of the car and none "going out"? Read more

If it is issued by the police, a local council or a parking attendant it is probably legal and enforceable. See the sticky re unauthorised and illegal parking "tickets/charges" - many of them are not.

Man without a plan

Morning all....

So the girlfriends Fiesta needs new tyres and we have used the local HiQ a lot before and they are always friendly, helpful and honest..... so we'll probably go back there....

Anyway just had a quick look on Kwikfit, HiQ and National Tyres.

I'm now stuck to decide if there is any real difference between:

Pirelli P Zero Nero
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 MFS
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3
Michelin Pilot Primacy

So specific to the above and in general, is there much / any difference between the brand name tyres?

The girlfriend is an enthusiastic but not fast driver and the same for me, so are we going to gain anything more paying £10 or £20 a tyre more for the Michelin's over the Pirelli's? Will they be any safer or save more fuel etc etc?

I am planning on purchasing a used E90 320, i do 12000 miles a year (half are motorway), i know that a diesel car costs more to purchase and takes longer to break-even. Anyone here got a 320i M Sport E90 and what kind of figures of mpg do they get? Read more

I'd say for only 12K per year and only half being motorway, there is too much against getting a diesel. I have an A4 diesel, and if my circumstances were like this I wouldn't get diesel again.

Is anyone else irritated by the current advert for the personal injuries claim solicitors?

The one that features a man injured in the tyre fitters when a jack collapsed on him.

Everyone knows you should never work under a vehicle supported only on a jack. So why did he manage to get compensation for flouting health and safety rules? Read more

Despite the sinister music and threatening tone of some adverts on TV - "We know where you live" - "You are in the databse" - "You'll get caught" mostly used for Benefit Fraud and TV licencing I admit, I was suprised to see a car parked in my local town yesterday displaying a tax disc which expired at the end of September last year! I thought there are mechanisms in place to issue penalties, order the payment of back taxes etc. How can somebody drive around UK for 11 months with no tax! Another reason to scrap road tax and put it on fuel - minimal paperwork and no way of avoidung payment!

I wonder if it was put on fuel, (and I don't believe it will be, as turkeys don't often vote for Christmas, even Tory ones), would it be put on at the end, i.e. after all other taxes, or would it be another nice little VAT earner?
