Does anyone know how to increase the idling speed on this model?
The reason is it has always idled on 500RPM, this was low but it never cut out.
I have just left it standing for 2 months without driving ( the battery was also flat), and the now it struggles to stay running when idling once the car has warmed up, it has also cut out several times.
What should i do?
It has done 107000miles.

Thanks in advance.

Idle control valves are notorious on this model. I used to have a webpage about it. I think they were called IACs. try googling IAC mazda 626.

You need the header tanked sniffed with a gas analyzer or a special special fluid which changes colour when combustion gases are drawn through it. Regards Peter

I bought a brand new i10 on the 1 September. Since buying it we have noticed that the car occasionally the appears to be ?Dropping out? of 4th gear. It has been doing this since the first day of delivery, although on the first couple of days we put it down to not being accustomed to the new car. I have today spoken to the garage and booked it in for an inspection next week .In the conversation they implied it could be something very simple, or could require a gearbox rebuild/repair. Clearly I am disappointed that the car is only a matter of days old, and is already going back to the dealer for repair. While I have no issue with them doing minor adjustements I would be extremely concerned if their investigations revealed the need to complete significant rework/repairs to the gearbox in order to rectify the problem. The question is if this proves to be the case can I reject the vehicle as being not of merchantable quality under the sale of goods act and ask for a new replacement?

The last four new cars I have bought have all had a deposit of up to £500 paid by credit card (giving some protection under Section 75 of the CCA) and I have paid the balance by debit card at the time of collection. Three of the cars came from the same dealer who actually said if the car's not as it should be and you're not happy, don't pay.

With my way of thinking, its not what happened - but what could have happened ... and its more likely to happen at 100MPH than 70MPH, with far worse consequences - especially on an A road.
I have the same mindset Re: drink driving, the consequences of which we've all read about too often.
A driving ban quite rightly follows a drink/drive conviction, and so a driving ban should automatically follow a conviction for speeding when it is in 'greatly in excess' of the speed limit - in this case 30MPH for no other reason than he was late.
I would like to add that I have driven on an A road (A20) at speeds in excess of 120MPH, and I have also driven a car whilst drunk, but I never got caught or luckily - injured anyone whilst doing so, but it could have sooooooooo easily been a different story!

The drivers side door on my Ford Escort is utterly jammed. Have the inner door trim removed, so can access some, and have managed to bend the plastic lock cover back to feel the workings of the assembly.

The door latch actuator in the door panel is fine, and the door opens a fraction. It appears from feeling the lock actuator (not latch) that it is loose and appears to be jammed in the locked position. I cannot remove the latch/lock assembly as the door cannot be opened to give access to the edge where the screws are to allow removal of the assembly.

Any ideas how I can get this wretched door open?

Even if it requires a crowbar, any tips on how to get it open so I can fully remove the lock/latch assembly and investigate the problem further would be greatly appreciated. Read more

Unfortunately still no joy after lubing (with WD40) the cable also.

I think I'm now going to need to get a new door from a scrappy, IF i can get this door off without damaging the frame!

Any ideas on emergency removal?

Thanks for all your help.

I used to have one of those little hammers with a belt cutter in my car but it went missing. Maybe I should re-invest.

While the driver was undoubtedly lucky not to be killed the real point is that
it was lucky no-one else was killed. This flying off the road was not something
the driver was powerless to prevent and neither is it due to the Bamber Triangle
and it?s famous Gravity Reversal Incidents but something to do with the driver. The most
likely predisposing factors for wildly careering off the road are drink/ drugs sensationally excessive speed
for the conditions falling asleep and ?being on the phone?.

This is ridiculous.

AFAIK, you are not a crash investigator, and are not party to the results of the crash investigation. Yet without any evidence you state with absolute certainty that the crash "was not something the driver was powerless to prevent"

Yet:

* There could have been a front tyre blowout.
* There could have been a failure of some part of the steering or suspension.
* There could have been some bit of bad driving by another motorist which caused this driver to swerve and lose control.

Note that I say "could have been", because I don't know. The problem here is that you don't know either, but you have lept to a conclusion on the basis of speculation.

I think the mods were right to lock the previous thread, and I hope they take some action to put an end to this irresponsible rush to judgement.

Where is the tank and how is easy is it to do?
I know i will have to have the fault code removed at the main agent but this would not cost nowhere near as much.

This is because the required amount of fluid is 5 litres and it costs £25 a litre so the job done for £160 is a bargain IMO. The fluid is highly toxic and it is only a DIY job if you very clever or very hard up or both!

I was following one of these big Lexus in stop/start traffic going through Glasgow City Centre and couldn't help but notice that there was quite a bit of smoke coming out both exhausts even when stationery. I had a look round at the other conventional cars in the queue and no sign of any smoke.

I thought the whole point of Hybrids was in this sort of traffic they would go on to electric only? Am I wrong? Or does it still, for some reason, have exhaust fumes of some sort? Read more

Yes, providing you don't become overwhelmed by the endless inches of plastic. There are little snap clips you just push down to remove the panels to get to the coolant.
