Hi all,
I've got a new Honda CRV that is coming up to its first service (12k miles) and I was wondering what people's opinions are on servicing?
Is it worth going to an official Honda dealer and get the book stamped any what have you, or should i go with an independent?
any thoughts??? Read more
Hi all,
I've a Mk3 Mondeo TDCi thats got a bit of a click or clunk felt through the steering column when moved sharply to the left. Easier to feel when stationary. Nothing obvious found when inspecting the external parts of the steering and suspension; springs look ok, ARB links look ok. Its possibly the rack/gear thats got some wear.
Short of fitting a new rack, someone has recommended some PAS fluid by Wynns thats designed to cure noise; I suspect its just a thicker version of standard PAS fluid. Has anyone ever drained and refilled the PAS fluid in this model? Is it tricky?
TIA- Read more
Thanks KIth. Will check that out.
Hello,
I seem to have got myself in a right muddle with my rear light cluster. Can anyone provide a rear bulb diagram showing which bulbs go where? It is only the brake and side lights i need.
Thanks in anticipation! Read more
That will do nicely!
Thanks!

Yellow pages and breakers. No end of Punto parts in our small local scrapyard so their must be hundreds available across the country.
Daughters rear view mirror detached itself from the windscreen.
I got a double sided sticky pad ( and a spare) from a motor factors, took the old pad off and, in a huury, thought I had restored things to normal.
No so !!!. A call to say it lasted just a couple of miles :-((
I will admit to not cleaning the screen.
Is this where I went wrong ( or a poor sticky pad) ?
For attempt two what is the best cleaner for the screen and mirror base? Read more
To conclude ( I hope) the mirror was glued back on by a helpful guy at the glass fitters using a spray on Loctite product plus activator.
No charge but I insisted he accept funds for a beer or buy something for the kids thus the two of us were happy.
It has survived a 30 mile round trip in the heat and traffic of Londons West End.
If it migrates the the footwell again I will let you know.
The mirror assembly weighed a mighty 12 ounces ! ( I will get my anorak )
Thanks again for all the info.
SWMBO's Puma becomes rather fragrant after using the air con. I suspect the drain is blocked as there is never a puddle of condensate under the car as there is under my own. Can anyone tell me where the drain outlet is located on the floor pan so I can give it a good rodding? Read more
Thanks
In view of the groundswell of opinion amongst Backroom members that driving over speed cushions can damage springs, I'm by and large reviving a post of mine from a previous thread which appears to have petered out.
In all seriousness, how can driving over speed cushions result in damage to springs?
The dampers will limit the suspension travel to within the design limits, so the springs won't be compressed beyond their design limit. In this application spring load is proportional to the amount of compression and nothing else, so the springs won't be loaded beyond their design limits when a car goes over a speed cushion. I'm sure it's possible for high car loads (a full complement of passengers and full boot load etc) to compress the springs to the same amount, or even more, than when a normally loaded car travels over a speed cushion. I accept that the dampers and damper mountings will receive higher loads over a spring cushion than if the car was travelling on a level road, so I would expect that (if anything) it would be these components which would suffer, and not the springs.
So .......... I'm looking for authoratitive technical explanations for or against the theory that driving over speed cushions can result in damage to springs. Read more
Any obstacle like speed humps, or pot holes, sunken drains etc. is going to massively increase the wear and tear on a cars suspension. My in-laws live in the New Forest. Both of their Passat estates they have owned, have suffered damper top mount failures. Reason?- they have to drive over cattle grids every day.

You are assuming it's just about saving money. Maybe the OP, like me, prefers to know the routine servicing is done properly?
