L'escargot

For the last week the odometer rectangle of the instument cluster of my 03/03 2.0 Focus Ghia has been illuminated when the ignition is off. No figures are showing and the level of illumination is low. At the moment I'm not going to have it repaired because of the estimated £200 cost. What's the worst that could happen by not having it repaired? The function when the ignition is on is normal, and nothing else is (visibly) affected. Read more

Hi, my first post and my first problem! I have a peugeot 308 was in a light accident but now repaired, all airbags replaced, airbag ecu crash data taken off. First fault is when trying to reset airbag lights (electrician used a snap on verus) it cant communicate with the ecu so wont knock off the lights? Second fault dont know if its related but vehicle will not rev over 2-3k rpm also shows "anti pollution warning" and engine management light on. Any help/advice would be great cant see where it has gone wrong. You may also need to know that the replacement dash is slightly different in that it has knee bags where original one didnt but cant see why this should be an issue,

Hello

I've removed a pair of Ford roof bars from an old Ka prior to it being scrapped. I'm trying to fit them to mine but am having problems.

These ones: www.fordsparts.co.uk/product-info/karoofbar

They are the genuine Ford bars and everywhere I look they say they fit ALL Ka's, but when I peel back the rubber roof trim to look for the little screw holes to attach the roof bars there aren't any. Surely I don't have to screw holes into the roof, and even then there wouldn't be a thread. Very odd.

I guess they just don't fit my ka, unless I've got some weird factory one off that doesn't have the holes fitted?

Many thanks for your quick replies. That thread had the answer exactly.

Hi,

Have just received a notice of intent to prosecute for passing through a red light. As I have accumulated 9 points within 3 years, this will lead to a totting up ban.

I went through the light in Bristol at 1.30am in the morning following a 5 hour drive from Manchester in my camper van on the way to Cornwall. I got lost on the roundabout, had to switch lanes and then got flashed.

Does the fact that it was so late there were no other cars on the road, that I was tired and lost count as mitigating circumstances or will the court simply argue that I should therefore not have been driving?

Any comments much appreciated! Read more

You can only cross a red light when instructed to do so by a police
officer which does not include having a car on blues/twos behind you.

there's a bit more to it. The police officer has to be 'engaged in the direction of traffic'. So even if the driver of a police car got out and waved you through, if he/she is not also directing all traffic i'd suggest it would technically still be a no-no. The reality of course would be you're home and dry (as long as you can remember his/her shoulder number, for when the camera operator sends you your NIP)

All,

Following advice from HJ I purchased on Friday a 56/07 1.6 TDCi (non-DPF) from Car Giant. Having previously been a one owner company car I got the computer print out history from the leasing company but NO service book / manual etc.

I am looking for the basic maintenance guides / service book etc that you would get on the purchase of a new car and wondered if these are available to download or purchase from Ford.

The kind of information I am looking for is eg on the digital display you can cycle through the menus. At present the trip is in miles but the average speed and consumption figures are in kilometres. I wondered if I can do something to turn all readings into imperial?

Any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks. Read more

I have recently acquired a 2005 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel (hatchback).

Over the past week or so a rather worrying noise has surfaced when starting the engine from cold (i.e overnight). The location of the noise is around the drivers side under the bonnet. Its seems to be around the area of the fan belt/alternator. The noise seems to have got louder from a cold start over the past few days.

Once the car is driven for 0-30 seconds the noise gradually fades away to nothing. If the car is stopped and started again when the engine is still warm the noise is not really apparent.

Should I be worried and what could the problem be?

From memory it's pretty simple (there's too many steps above).
Something like:
Hold the trip computer reset button in with the ignition off then turn it on whilst still holding the button in.
Three dashes should appear to show it's reset. Then release the button.

>Two cars which do not fit the bill are the Range Rover..

I think the Range Rover actually is a pretty much classless car.

At the top of the social ladder, Mr. & Mrs. Windsor have owned a few.
A little lower down the scale, wealthy landowners use them for shooting parties.
Captains of industry are regularly seen in them.
Middle England has mortgaged itself to the hilt to do the school run in a Range Rover and even I have a neighbour who bought a used one.

Then we have the social scum that somehow floats despite all baggage they are carrying. Folks like Prime Ministers and dictators of small African countries.

Kevin...

PS. Even Her Maj. puts in a few hours to earn some beer tokens. Could she be called "working-class" now?

After some research I've decided to opt for one of these - anyone used any towbar mounted Thule product on a CRV 3 ?

Why ride the bally thing when you can stick it on the back of the car ? Read more

Pugugly

I got a new Thule carrier from E-Bay on a best offer - a right bargain it was (!) I was attracted to the tow bar option as I was adviced against a tailgate mounted one for the CRV due to the back door being made of some composite material. I need a tow-bar for my trailer so the solution dawned on me. The rational is that if it doesn't work that it can be flogged on for what I bought it at or more - it was a very good price. Halfords had one on offer for 89 pounds (own brand).

Thanks for the advice.
