Hi,
I have bought a Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Zetec in the last few days and last night I started to notice the following issue:
1) I turn the engine on
2) When I press the brake pedal I can hear air being released (while the pedal is going down, not once it stops moving)
3) I turn the engine off
4) I press the brake again a few times and hear air then it stops and the pedal stiffens up (so that it hardly presses down)
5) If I restart the engine I hear air again when I press the pedal
Does that sound normal? I had never noticed it before, but because I have only had the car a few days, I am still getting used to what is normal.
I posted this question at the end of an unrelated thread, and Altea Ego kindly responded explaining that this is normal on some cars.
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=78...2
I just wanted to double check that it is normal on Mk 4 Mondeos, because I am obviously keen to be doubly sure that the brakes are OK :) To this end, I have also posted the same question here:

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

My A4 multitronic has a 2 litre petrol engine. (1984 cc indirect injection introduced in late 2001). My handbook says the cambelt should be changed at 120,000 miles or eight years. My (non-Audi) garage also confirmed these times.
It is now approaching eight years. A fairly brief web search could not find anything about belt damage on this engine. Do any of you have knowledge of belt breakage on this on this engine ? either caused by belt wear or other accessory failure?
Audi must have been pretty confident of its longevity to have originally stated such a long replacement period. Has it proved good in practice?
Many thanks. Read more
Glad to see you've seen sense. We don't like to patronise on these pages and our advice is given in YOUR best interests. We (the Technical advisors) seek only to ensure your enquiry is answered correctly and in YOUR best interests. You can trawl these pages and see where people have said 'I wish I'd followed your advice'...and have ended up with a huge repair bill rather than the considerably smaller preventative bill - and cambelt changing is a classic throught this thread.
I sincerely hope you enjoy your trouble free motoring after your cambelt change.

My car is fitted with the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Last February I had two worn tyres replaced on my Galaxy and shortly after had to return to the dealer who fitted them to have one of the TPMS valves replaced because the tyre was losing about 1psi every 4 days.
A few weeks ago I had the other two worn tyres replaced and the same thing has happened again. This time one valve is losing about 1psi per week. This too has been replaced.
I asked the dealer if this was a common fault with the TPMS valves when it comes to replacing tyres. They say it's not a known fault and that I was just unlucky !!
The next time these tyres need changing my car will be out of warranty and I won't be too happy if I need to factor in the cost of a TPMS valve too.
Anybody else experienced similar issues ?? Read more
No doubt about it in my case. I can actually hear it coming from the crack in the valve thread.
2007 mk5 Golf 1.9tdi.
When car is first started, the usual dash lights come on and extinguish after a few seconds except for a steering wheel symbol and the ESP (traction) lights.
These two lights remain light until the car is actually moved, then go out within a couple of seconds of being driven.
Is this normal? Or shuld they go out along with the others wither idle or not.
TIA
Chris

Tim was correct.
The culprit is a steering sensor. Part on order to be fitted this week.

Seconded on the alloy brake levers. The boys new Xmas bike had plastic ones until he crashed into a lamp post (in an otherwise empty field!!) on Boxing Day. Local bike shop fitted alloy replacements for a very reasonable £15 all in.
where abouts is the fuel pump relay on an r reg 1.4 16v polo as the fuel pump stops running on mine. is there anything else that could be causing this apart from the pump or relay?
{moved to a stand alone post - originally tagged onto a very old post which was written in 2003 - www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=16328 } Read more
The fuel pump relay should be up behind the fuse box ,drivers side, behind drop down panel.Could well be a relay fault as this is a common failure on most Vag models.hth

Only my opinion DD, but i'd have a manual in preference to a sensodrive/automated manual and i hate manual boxes with modern narrow torque band engines.
Automated manuals i find unpleasant, frustrating, sluggish and rough....did i mention i don't like them at all, i've driven enough to be sitting on the fence on that one..;)
I'm looking forward to having a nose round the facelift Ceed, my sons best mate/man has 2 of the present model, a petrol hatch and a Diesel estate, neither of them auto, but both trouble free and capable cars, good reports all round so far.
I've delivered a good number of them and they seem very well put together underneath and as good as anything mass market inside.
My laptop was borrowed by someone who wanted to use it to play a DVD using a data projector. The person concerned had a bit of trouble and eventually just used the laptop to play the DVD.
The laptop has been returned to me, and the display has changed. My first thought was that it had gone rather odd, and I couldn't put my finger on it. On closer examination, it has been changed so that every item on the screen has been stretched horizontally, or to put it another way, flattened. Letters in text look slightly fuzzy. What do I do to get it back to normal?
(I tried "System Restore", but got a message to say that it was not possible to restore the system to the chosen point.)

Hi,
I have a Citroen C4 Grand 1.8 VTR+ that's coming up to the end of it's 2 year contract and I'm looking to replace it with another. I have decided to go for a VTR+ 1.6HDi this time around in Kyanos Blue - but haven't yet decided to go EGS or not, I have read conflicting reviews across the net but find them a little difficult to relate to as I have only ever driven manual cars. Does anyone have any experience driving a Citroen EGS in general or speicifically in the C4 Grand? IF so, I'd appreciate your feedback.
I plan to test drive one on Monday before placing my order - any tips on how to get the best out of the test drive given that I've only ever driven manuals?
Thanks
:)

I don't have any problems using my Handbrake on my C4 GP.
I use it to apply handbrake when parking and then when moving off I just engage a gear and move off. Then handbrake releases itself. Or I could park, turn off ignition and the handbrake applies itself.
When I first had the car I thought I would never get on with the electronic handbrake, but now I think its better than the conventional mechanical version.
The only thing I know with the EGS, that when in auto/semi-manual there is a lag between changing gears where the engine revs are brought up or down to match the next gear being engaged where as the old type auto just changed gear instant.

LOL. I was worried that everyone would mock my scuffed up shoes. I should have realised they would mock my inside-out socks even more! :)
