Hiya,
Disclaimer: sorry if it sounds like a daft question!

How do I find what the tyre pressure ought to be?

Normally I'd check the user manual, but there isnt one (at least, not that I've found so far), and I want to make sure the tyres are at the right pressure.

I've googled tyre pressures, thinking I'd find a site somewhere that would tell me for each size etc of tyre what the pressure ought to be, but no luck, and googled the make and model of tyre too.

They are 235 45 z17 on the front
and 255 40 z17 on the rear

If it's got non-standard wheels and tyres, have you informed your insurance company?

I hate to be a killjoy, but if they can worm their way out of a claim, for whatever reason, they will.

I just noticed that the radio in my car has stopped working. When I switched off the car and removed the key from the ignition, the LED or background lights on the radio and clock temperature is still on. No recent modifications or no warning lights. Just radio not working and lights stay on. This will run down my battery. HELP! Read more

Hi

I'm planning on selling my Touran, either through BCA's Sure Sell scheme or using www.webuyanycar.com. The latter have offered me £15k via the website and I would have to drop off in Cardiff and pay them a £50 admin fee. I can't see them haggling as there's nothing to haggle over. It's in pristine condition, honest!

If I sell through Sure-Sell then I would have to pay them roughly £500 fees in order to put it through the auction. Would it be worth my while doing this in the hope I'd get at least £15.5k?

How much of a margin would webuyanycar factor into the price they have offered for mine? Not quite aure how they operate, apart from they're the buying arm of one of the large supermarkets I think.

Also, my nearest auction house is in Cardiff, would I get a better price for mine at one of the bigger auctions, ie. Blackbushe comes to mind.

Also, my tax runs out the end of the month, so I'm planning to get rid pretty sharpish and hope I don't have to pay for tax - though it would be around £80 for 6 months so not quite as bad as it could be.

thanks

Just wanted to provide some feedback to the posters who replied, I advertised in Auto Trader at £16,750 10 days ago and have just accepted an offer of £16,500 from a private buyer so I'm well chuffed!

Proved me wrong, there are people willing to travel. Considering I paid £19k one year ago, I think the 2.5k depreciation is excellent - my friends still don't believe it ;-)

Just followed a pop-up to the Volvo site and found that I can now order my tonne-and-three-quarters of V70 with the DRIVe package and the 1.6D engine from the C30. I'm intrigued - not so much because I'd rather have this engine than a D5 in a V70, but that Volvo seems to think it's a viable combination.

Is this merely Volvo's attempt to counterbalance the effect of all those XC90s on its average CO 2 value - i.e. all for show and not seriously expected to sell - or should those to whom the V70 represents family motoring nirvana be rushing to place their (all right, our) orders now?

I may just have to ask my local Volvo shop if they have one I can try. Haven't test-driven anything for a year and a half and there'd certainly be points to look for in this one. Read more

Peugeot and Citroen have been offering this engine in the C5 and 407 for years. I can't believe a 407 weighs much more or carries much more than a V70 and it seems to work OK and sell in large number if not exactly setting the world alight.

I'd agree with some other posters that I've always found the 2.0d V50 pretty rubbish. Apart from needing a £1000 service at 75k to replaced the particulate filter it simply isn't economical enough using more fuel in pretty much all circumstances than the D5 version.

Hi All!
We recently bought a '94 Terrano Mistral 2.7td LWB auto and it's developed a problem with the gearbox in that if I put on too much gas the engine revs go up but the box doesn't change gear but if I'm careful with the revs it changes gear ok - though with a little harshness until warmed up.
Does anyone have the same problem and is this a major repair job or can the gearbox be adjusted in any way?
I'm not sure when the car was last serviced and this will be done soon - wether this will help or not I don't know.

Also, does anyone know how to remove the dash clock assembly as I need to convert the speedo dial from KMH to MPH and replace some dash bulbs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Greg. Read more

Many thanks mate - I'll make sure that the gearbox oil and filter are changed when it goes in for a service. If it does the trick I'll be well chuffed but knowing my luck it'll turn out to be something more sinister......

Right! ... stand by your beds, I've got one for you - Cornwall has recently gorn all Digital (TV) and I don't want to fork out for a gnu recorder as my old VCR is working perfectly and to be honest - I don't watch a lot of TV these days but I do like to catch Anne @ 5-15pm but she's been moved to earlier in the day, which brings me to ze question (phew!)
Panasonic TX-32LXD700 + Hitachi F660E ... I've got the scarts in the correct place and can play video's but I can't seem to record from el telly, 'they' say you can record a prog that your actually watching but there is no way my telly is having any of it.
Any idea's (preferably clean & decent) would be very mucho appreciated.

Hello all,

Trying to set the ignition timing with an advance light on this car - its a AGG engine - 8 valve. Haynes says 5-15' BTDC so I am aiming for 10'.

Thing is its like the car is fighting me or (possibly) knows better - cause however much you play with the dizzy the TDC line doesn't line up.

The mechanical (cam/crank) timing seems spot on.

I've done the same on an older ABS engine - (6') - and that worked really well.

Any thoughts? Does this car have a ECU "timing mode" perhaps? Nothing about that in Haynes or Bentleys'.

Cheers all,

Hi Everyone

I know this has probably been discussed before - but can anyone recommend a decent tar remover - i tried Car Plan Tar Remover but i did not find it very good and nearly rubbed the paintwork off trying to remove some bits (mods please remove the brand if necessary im not naming and shaming but didn?t know if it was going to be ok)

also is there anything to remove insects or can tar remover be used for that as well?

No one has yet mentioned WD40.

Well you can use that but why waste money spraying on a product that is largely just a aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, similar to White Spirit plus a few essential additives. If you have White Spirit in your shed/garage for paint and allied trades, then why not use that cheaper option?

Been looking at changing our 5yr old Jazz into a new one and have been drawn by all the goodies on the top EX model.

However I've become aware that the tyre size is pretty unusual - and therefore expensive! It's 185/55R16 83H.

I usually buy tyres from Costco, who only sell Michelin, and Michelin don't make any tyre in that size. Choice seems to be very limited and I, if I recall correctly, the same issue affects some models of Nissan Note.

Anyone know if these more unusual sizes are likely to appear from other manufacturers over time? Read more

Maybe you could get a tyre or two to keep in the garage

I already have 2 rear tyres for my Merc in the garage after buying 4 in a Costco special offer so that thought had occured to me.

I was rather hoping that by the time the car needs tyres there would be other suppliers available, but it might be worth laying in a pair. If I have any choice I'd like to make sure I get the quietest tyres possible.
