Anyone who threw litter out of my car wouldn't get in it again.

Same here, unless it's biodegradeable and dumped in the right place. A banana skin on an urban street is a no-no, but an apple core slung into a rural ditch or thicket hedge has been disposed of more appropriately than one wrapped in a plastic bag and placed in landfill.

Hi,

Hopefully somebody will be able to help.

I have a 2002 BMW 316SE with 191K on the clock. Recently it's yellow oil warning light has started to come on, either while I'm driving and the engine is warm or as I switch off the ignition. I know she's using a little bit of oil but it seems like the light is coming on every one to two weeks after I check the levels and top up with oil (Mobil 10/40 Semi Synthetic).

Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

The yellow light is a oil level warning light.Either not enough or too much oil.Always check the dipstick with car on level ground and after at least 10 mins of switching off engine. It is also possible that the oil sump sensor is faulty if the level checks out ok.hth

This is mentioned in FAQ but the link to the supermarket website is defunct.

So, have any more manufacturers (especially VW Group) given ther "approval" to this blended bio fuel? It is hinted elsewhere that some 100% biofuels are OK but why the problem with the 30% blend? All diesels are a 5% blend now anyway by EU edict AFAIK.

Tried a tank of it in my Mondeo. Subjectively it seemed to run rougher, blow more smoke and be down on power. The back of the car ( it's an estate ) was covered in soot after a long run. Haven't tried using it since. Posh chipfat imho.

Chas - For various reasons I don't get the ads - can you post or e-mail the URL for me. From my understanding there is no control on the Google ads.

Hi,
My much better half has been looking for some time now to replace her old Clio auto, and has seen a MK4 Golf 1.6S auto,51 plate,47k miles, one owner,FSH,for £4295.
It seems a reasonable example but having read HJ's report on the MK4,and also some troubles who people I know have had with them,I have my doubts. She likes car,but I have also come across these locally:
Astra 1.6Life(AC) auto,04,28kmiles....£4,495
Focus Zetec,3dr auto,03,8k miles.......£4,495
The Golf has a very nice feel inside, but are they any better really than the others.
Any opinions most gratefully accepted!!
Thanks....Phil. Read more

Hi shara,

Th e X3 is nearing 3 years and 22k miles and all 4 gumball tyres look fairly worn out. I suspect this is going to cost me a fair whack. I can replace the incumbent Dunlop SP Sports, or for about 12 quid less per corner I can go with Bridgestone Dueler 680s. I thought that Bridgestone were a more "premium" tyre?

I guess 22k miles and 3 years on a heavy 4WD is reasonable wear from the factory-fit Dunlops? They do seem to give of a lot of road roar noise though. Might Bridgestone be better? The only off-roading we ever do is gravel/muddy roads and the odd damp field...

Also been quoted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics - ?! 15 quid per tyre pricier than the Dunlops.

Any recommendations anyone? Read more

I thnk you might be better on a more specific BMW or off-roader forum - I'm not aware of many people on here with X3's and SUV tyres are very different to car tyres.

On cars, Bridgestones generally are noted for hard ride (due to stiff sidewalls) and shortish life. They're more suited to performance driving, but their SUV tyres may be totally different

Heading off there in April - my thoughts favour my usual ad-hoc arrangements of finding places to stay whilst on the road - Anybody ever done this in the Keys ? Is there a shortage of accommodation there especially at the time of year I intend to travel.

Any must see things ??

I think one thing to bear in mind from a trip I did there about 12 years ago is that while you see alot of sea over the bridges the main road seems more or less to go down the middle of each key...so that means the road u drive along is fringed by the "backs" or entrances to a lot of motels/hotels complexes. This was similar to my experience of Hawaii - the development model seems to be that all the land between the road and any beach is predominantly in private ownership (and developed) right down to the beachm meaning practically no access to the shoreline to the public except for the odd hidden laneway even if the beach once u get there is public. The US at least in more touristy does not often do the seaside road by the sea thing that is more common in Europe/UK. So I found the drive alot duller than I expected. We saw very little beach from the car and instead saw an endless parade of gas stations, t shirt shops, tent and caravan parks, mobile home parks and holiday developments through each key.

Key West was pleasant enough but a bit full of cruise ship passengers and cheap t shirt shops. Hemingway house was worth touring - very much of an era.

Just bought a new car and my husband is doing the finance the delaership without asking automatically put him as registered owner and keeper of car. (current car is being financed by him but I am registered owner and keeper) Does this have implications for insurance? I will obviously tell them its been done like that but can i still be insured as main driver ...which i will be as my husband has his own car. Can they change it to my name or are we stuck with it in his? Read more

IIRC, the V5 states the Registered Keeper - which is not necessarily the owner of the vehicle.
