I've got a couple of kerbed alloy wheels on my 207 and they could do with getting refinished.

Rather than paying someone £50 per wheel to do them I'm going to do them myself but I'm not sure how to get a good colour match for the paint.
Any ideas where I could find the paint code for the wheels? Read more

Have you tried yellow pages for car paint suppliers?

I've an excellent place in my home town that makes up aerosols (at a price).

What you're talking about is a specialised job. A quick blow-over is fine if you're looking to sell on, but if you're looking for a lasting job, you need to speak to an expert wheel re-furbishment place.

I still prefer steel wheels!

I have recently purchased a Kawasaki VN900 and like the idea of adding some extras to give the bike a bit of character.

It is down to cost really. The Kawasaki parts are very expensive and there is a lot of cheaper aftermarket parts on the internet.

On the internet it is impossible to judge the quality of the parts. Has any one bought aftermarket bike accessories on the internet ?

Were you pleased or dissapointed.

I know the phrase that you get what you pay for but I am interested in the quality of the parts on offer rather than one liners, if the quality is poor then I won't bother. Read more

Generally speaking, Harleys have better residual values. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with the Jap stuff, in fact even I as a die-hard Harley owner of 20 years standing can appreciate that in some ways the Japanese stuff is actually superior.

I have heard good reports of the Kawasaki Drifter if you like the retro styling thing; whatever you buy I would strongly recommend either shaft or belt final drive, so much cleaner and less hassle than a chain.

Oldest active riding member in my Harley club is 87, BTW, so you've still got a fair bit of time to catch up! ;-)

hi does a track rod arm come of the steering rack if not how hard is it to get the steering rack out please

Amended shouting in subject line, and moved over to Tech. Read more

Changing a rack is not a five minute job, largely because of accessability, you really need to have it on a ramp. The space for the rack to slide out of on the drivers side is smaller than the rack!

I am buying a car privately from someone who lives locally, I have been to view at the house and I am happy with everything. I have had a HPI check done. The problem is the registration document is not in the name of the seller, the car was bought short term by a trader who trades abroad. Effectively this makes it a private sale, not trade. I have asked to see the receipt the seller has for purchase of the car. Do you think this is sufficient proof of entitlement to sell the car? Is there anything else I should check? Read more

nortones2

When you say he trades abroad, do you mean that he trades from a base that is abroad? Or is he claiming to trade from the UK to "abroad" whatever that might be? Either way, doesn't sound like a private sale. Perhaps worth checking the traders credentials, Trading Standards records (if they can be bothered!), CC judgements etc. But as has been said before, it's your decision.

I am being told to use Semi-synthetic oil in my car because it has a Turbo (Halfords) - Is this necessary. I thought quality Mineral oil would be OK - Any thoughts on this please Read more

Thanks Dave - That's what I'll do. Regards Mick.

I wondered this while being driven around yesterday. There seems to be a disproportionate number of them. It's usually a slightly older model with the rear apron crumpled below the bumper as if they've reversed into a low bollard. Read more

I remember having one of these Polos and yes I did reverse into a high kerb and damaged the rear end. I got it fixed pretty quickly though and after that I was very careful when I reversed anywhere.

14000 3years 3 months old miles needs new ABS pump £1500 from main dealer luckily covered by warranty direct as I extended the warranty thank goodness. local VW specialist doing the work. Already had the car for a full day, they said the pump was fitted in two hours but they have trouble configuring the pump. ABS and esp lights still on in road test mode. apparentley they have to do road test with the car plugged into a laptop to configure pump put car will not accept pump yet. ABS and traction working now but lights still on. I will have to take car in again. This is a regular problem with VW cars I am told . I read on a forum that turning the ignition on and off many times should clear the fault and ecu will eventually recognise the new ABS pump. Read more

the car has to be driven on the road to configure the ecu or pump whatever .drive at 15km/hr then turn steeering 90deg left then right to config the lateral sensors, a figure of eight type seris of turns should do it so I am told. The abs pump fault was verified by independent vw specialist and main dealer diagnostics as asked for by warranty direct.

i am in need of desperate help, i have two corsas one 94 year one 95 year
i have put the 94 engine in the 95 one as the engine was blown in it
now the engine wont start, the 95 one has an immobiliser so i have disconnected it and are using the ecu from the 94 one still wont start,
i have 12v coming to the king lead on ignition but when i crank the engine the volts drop
there is no spark at the plugs but the fuel is getting through
i have taken the crank sensor plug off and there is 12v coming out
i tried the wire in the centre of the plug to earth as explained in an archive of this forum and the king lead sparks
i have tried towing the car off but nothing
any ideas would be appreciated,
cant afford to take it to garage as on the old dole and parents need it off their drive
thanks in advance Read more

Hi,
Yes for that ecu, i have bypassed the ecu in this way.

I'm using the ecu wiring loom and ignition barrel from the corsa i took the engine out off.
Shouldnt this bypass? as the corsa which blew the engine didnt have an immobilizer.

when im using the ecu and wiring loom from the other corsa the eml doesn't flash on and off it just sits normal.
Whats the best thing to do ?
Thanks

I have a Renault Clio 1.5dci. Twice in the last year whilst driving, the engine has just cut out on me. I have restarted and driven away and the car has been fine. Anybody have any ideas as to what is causing this? Read more

I plan to travel from Keswick to Sevenoaks on a Monday in July, during the hours of daylight. Obviously I could go down the A66, A1, M11, M25. Or possibly M6, M40, M25. And I suppose I probably will.

However, I fancy a relaxing drive, and don't like sitting in traffic jams and driving in urban areas and red lights. And the M25 is prone to being one big traffic jam.

So - is it possible to do this journey during the hours of daylight in such a way that I can get around London without encountering much traffic, or am I being unrealistic? Read more

Well, I took Route 1. Sailed through the roadworks at Colsterworth, and even the QE2 bridge was fine (I crossed it just before 5 p.m.)

Thanks all.
