Coming back from the Ferrari Owners Club Concours event near Kettering today, SWMBO and I spied a convoy of two XJS's, an E-type and an XK (or whatever the one which looks like a DB-7 is) turning off the A43 towards Deene Park/Kirby Hall. Was the Jag Owners Club having a bash around there or was it a coincidence? Read more
I have a lovely red ford mondeo, which i dearly love, but as of recent and on a recent holiday the engine kangaroos whilst going along. It mainly happens when driving at low revs. If i put my foot down it wont do it, but it does it at all speeds from stationary up to 70mph. Could anyone suggest what the problem could be? my thoughts were maybe dirty fuel, or the dm flywheel? Any help would be much appreciated. thanks

Hi
My 2004 C5 when cold is running a little weird.
If you rev the engine to pull off when cold, it will almost stall and the revs drop almost a backfire. Once revved above about 1500-200rpm it is fine.
Idles smootly and pulls away fine with coaxing.
Once warm not quite so bad and will accelerate cleanly on the open road and responsive
Engine does also burn a little oil. Not in exahust or leaks though just burns it.
Engine only done 50K and serviced recently
Will take it to our friendly citroen independent specialist later in the week to see what they say.
I noticed the petrol filter not changed in the c5 at service, so maybe ? Read more
Garage connected diagnostics
Intermittent Fault in ignition Coil 1/1 and 1/3 i think. (open circuit)
This would for the faulty running as no decent spark
Damage £90 + VAT and 30 mins fittings.
1) Anyone fitted one and how easy. Looks easy and me done HT leads and coils on older cars
2) Why cost so much, and surprised gone when car only 5 years old.
Oh well easy repair i guess
...I had the briefest (3-mile) opportunity to drive the new E-Class Coupé yesterday.
Helped the guys at the local dealership out by manning a 5-vehicle M-B display at my old employers 40th anniversary open day celebrations.
Until yesterday morning I hadn't seen any variant of the new E-Class in the flesh but on arrival I was overwhelmed by the external appearance of the E350 CDi BlueEfficiency Coupé Sport.
It looks the absolute business in Obsidian Black with Nappa leather, AMG front and rear aprons, side skirts, sports parameter steering (wassat?) and AMG 6 x twin-spoke 18" alloys.
So, having stood alongside it for much of the day I naturally made a grab for its key when the time came to return them to base camp!
Awesome, absolutely delicious, repeat to fade...
Amazed to see that it only emits 179k/gm and costs £175 for 12-months VED.
So, having now read HJ's full Road Test and in possession of a min-brochure and the promise of a 2/3-hour solo test-drive I never imagined that I would be 'diverted away' from my desire to own a 3.0 Diesel S XF, but I believe that I'm about to be?

>Good morning Kev ? ah, but you won't be up yet as I see you didn't get to bed 'til after 23:43?...
I find your concern over my sleeping habits very touching but slightly odd. Should I be concerned?
>returning, funnily enough, via Basingstoke!
So tell us. Did you like it?

My 1.1 cfi (60K) starts ok runs ok but after approx 12 miles of running it just loses power completely and stops. After 2 minutes it starts again ok but the same thing will happen after another 12 miles or so. It appears to be more prone on a continious run rather than stop start motoring. A reclaimed single point injection unit did not fix neither did reclaimed crankcase sensor or new plugs. Any one got a clue.... Read more
My central locking won't work, either by the remote or by the key in the lock, i can't gain access, all the doors are locked and neither the car battery or the remote battery are dead. HELP PLEASE. Read more
A kind chap at a filling station spotted fluid leaking from beneath the engine on my Mazda6 about an hour ago. Closer examination reveals this to be coolant which is dripping quite furiously while the engine is running.
I carefully drove the five miles or so to my home while keeping a close eye on the various warning lights etc, then had a closer look.
I?m no technician and I can?t see where this leak originates from, but looking at the car from beneath (as well as I can) it?s running off behind the engine from three points; the exhaust, a small silver shield and a threaded boss.
Although I assume that somewhere in the murky depths below the bonnet a hose is crying out to be replaced, I would be grateful for other, more knowledgeable opinions.
Can?t complain - first problem in nearly 7 years!
Thanks.

Thanks BT and SN
I've just harvested a sample and it looks good enough to drink and has no discernible smell, so I guess condensation is the culprit.
I was a bit concerned as I have a longish journey ahead of me mid-week.
Another likely cost saving thanks to the BR.

PS I'm a good lad - I check the various fluid levels regularly!
Hi guys.
my sister has a rover 414 1998. it has only covered 50,000 miles and is in very good condition. However it is hunting and wobbling slightly at tick over. It does not do it it until the car is warm.
Ive heard the throttle body being plastic can warp maybe thats the problem does anyone have anyother ideas.....?
Regards.
Charlie.

Have a diagnostic check & chack the live data for the map sensor reading. they are prone to air leaks around the o rings for the map sensor & inlet manifold gasket around no 4 cylinder. have a look for A/freeze stains under the inlet manifold. Check all the vacum pipes as a small leak will upset 1 cylinder at tickover. Brake servo leaking ?
Low mileage car at that age could have sticky valves! there is a trick to remedy this witout using snake oil or dismantling. If sticky valves are diagnosed then post back
I remember advice from years gone by to check tyres for `flints`. We were prepared as boys in the 50`s I suppose - carrying around a pen knife with one of those thick long prongs attached in case a horse got a stone caught in it`s hoof.
What innocent days. Think what could be interpreted if you were caught on the street or entering a well known accessory store with a long prong in your pocket like that..
Officer = "Now now my Lad, what are you doing with a thing like that"
Your answer =
That`s the quiz - finding the best caption for being caught with a horse hoof device in your pocket - in modern motoring times.
Part two - for the pictorial obsessive who wants forensic detail of a flint and tyre surface over breakfast.
Here`s a `Great White` tooth flint observed from a distance of twenty feet this am and dutifully pulled out of its hole (above in pic) and relocated in a sipe for you viewing interest.

In other words - I was Dunn....
Having had to wait some two and a half hours in my Honda dealer showroom recently whilst my CRV was having a 25000 mile service, (I was promised it would take one and a half hours) I had plenty of time to inspect the new cars on display.
I must say that I was very impressed with Honda Jazz Ex model and spent quite a while assessing it's suitability in the event of my deciding to downsize from my CRV, since it provided excellent storage and passenger accessibility.
Needless to say, their demonstrator was not there at that particular time, but I did drive the earler Jazz loaned to me as a courtesy car and found the reflection of the fascia top to be rather annoying.
On the new model, the windsceen seems even greater in depth and angle and I could see a some reflection in the showroom model with the plastic roof covered by the sun screen.
I would be grateful if any owners of the new Honda Jazz would let me have their views on whether they find reflections in the windscreen a problem, please. (I know I'm rather "picky" but please bear with me!!!) Read more
The silliest reflection I've come across was a chrome surround to the instrumant pod in a SAAB 9.3 that I test drove a couple of years ago. It reflected in the windscreen as an oblique line right in front of your eyes.
SAAB need someone like Erik Carlsson, who used to test drive them in their heyday.

Not Jag's I saw yesterday, but Subaru's.
I was driving Durham to Accrington via A1(M) and A59.
Long line heading south at 8:15am near Scotch corner/Leeming Bar.
Another line heading esat on A59 at 9am near Harrogate.
A few stragglers near Bolton Abbey. Looked impressive, but no idea where headed.
