Done a silly thing, was going to change engine oil on the C15d but inadvertently drained the gearbox oil, wrong sump plug.
My question being after I have bought 2 litres og transmission oil, how do I get it back in the gearbox, cant find a 'cap' or anything obvious to pour it into. Boy do I feel silly.
Any help would be gratefully received. Quicker the better, before SWMBO gets home and laughs her bottom off.

This used to be sensibly laid out so that all letters for one week were on one page. Now whoever has been putting them online is putting on one letter per page so if you want to read all of them you have to click about instead of just going to one page and scrolling down! This is a basic usability error. If people only want to read letters on one subject then you can easily make a clickable link in the title as it was as the subjects of each weeks letters were always listed anyway.

From time to time warnings come up of automatic malfuctions on my picasso. Its been taken to the dealer and nothing is ever found at fault. If there is nothing obvious wrong in future would I get away ignoring these warnings as it coming to the end of the warrantie and I dont fancy forking out everytime the dash flashes. Its a 20l petrol 2006 model anyone any experience of long term reliability.
thanks all Read more
If I were thee comrade tomo - providing the gearbox is doing its stuff ok and the fact that you've had it back to the dealer without a fault being found, I'd ignore the warning light but - have the Pablo serviced at a main dealer so'as to get the book stamped after the warantee expires.
I have a 51 2.0 TDDI Mondeo, recently the front suspension went on the passenger side, so I got a local mobile mechanic to come out and replace the suspension (that side only). Once this had been done, everytime I go over a small bump in the road I hear a load thud from the passenger side wheel, and is starting to get louder.
I called out the mobile mechanic again and he has had a look and says that nothing seems to be wrong, but I disagree. Any ideas on what this could be?? Read more
Hi,
After a long(ish) journey, say 30 minutes in top gear, the clutch pedal is very stiff on first application. After 2 presses it feels like normal.
The car only has 26k and otherwise, the clutch feels great. I've driven several C5 and the heaviness (in normal operation) and biting point feels the same.
Has anyone any ideas?
Thanks

I bought my 04 octavia 1.9tdi just on a year ago and have now done 26k miles in it with no problems at all - 2 services, a cambelt change and just put 2 new front tyres on with mpg at over 50mpg throughout. I bought it from a skoda dealer and had a full skoda warranty which included breakdown, euro cover and engine components etc. Pretty comprehensive and nice to have. I have now done 53k in it and have been offered an extension of the cover. This includes oily bits etc plus parts, labout and VAT without limit up to new price of the car plus roadside, recovery, onward travel and european cover. Plus its transferable if I sell it. The cost is £350, which doesnt seem too bad to me. Breakdown cover plus a couple of european trips would cost well over £100, and should I sell it, it offers strong reassurance to a buyer. As I do 25k+ a year then this would take me up to around 80k should I keep it so good peace of mind there. I'm not normally swayed by such things but it does seem to offer reasonable value. To quote Dirty Harry - "feeling lucky, punk?". What do BRers think, should I?

Thanks for all the input and comments everybody. It is a close call, and with anything else - washing machine etc - I would never dream of paying for a warranty such as this. There is a strong peace of mind element, but also a lurking thought that things which do go wrong could be claimed as wear and tear and therefore not covered, and £350 would pay for many things barring major calamity. The car is well looked after and regularly serviced, and like others here appears as good now as when I got it. My insurance includes breakdown cover, legal cover etc and is also very good value for money, having checked several comparison sites, (Esure, £228 fully comp, protected NCD, breakdown and legal cover). Also I can buy european breakdown cover on a trip by trip basis and I doubt if I would make more than two trips, which would cost no more than the £60 extra on my insurance policy for euro breakdown cover that I could have taken out. I have also looked at Briskoda and if anything the sentiment there is more laidback or even negative than it is here. So on balance I am going to let it pass. I just hope I am not caught out!
Cheers, MGs
Newly elected Tory boss of Surrey CC has promised to increase the number of speed cameras. When many forward thinking authorities are taking them down.
They announced a £1m inititaive to tackle speeding on the county's roads, which will be launched in September. As well as extra cameras, speed monitoring groups will be set up. Their aim is to enforce and educate drivers by introducing more equipment and community "SpeedWatch" schemes.

I've found that on the 2.5 hour drive to my wifes parents in Surrey, I don't arrive any sooner by hurtling along at 80+mph. I now stick to 70 or less and actually find I can use the inside lanes of the M11, M25 and M3 more effectively and in many cases, have it all to myself with the exception of trucks. I no longer have to put up with BMW X5 driver's sitting inches from my bumper in lane 3 (sorry to target Beemers but you know who you are!)
My fuel economy has improved and I no longer end my journey feeling stressed and sweaty palmed. My concentration can be better spent watching for other road users rather than trying to spot unmarked police cars or cameras.
Basically, driving within the limit or less (without being a mimser) equals better economy, safer driving and less stress for me and my passengers. I wish I'd tried it years ago.

We all think we can, but are our skills being gradually eroded.
I loaded some new large vans today, didn't need any fine clutch control or skill, as soon as i stopped the hill hold function came into play, very clever but is it going too far.
I suppose premature clutch wear and the astronomical cost of DMF's is something to do with this, we've all seen white van man (among others but he's a prime example) riding the clutch at uphill junctions or in traffic....seemingly incapable of proper vehicle control without abuse, i suppose the hill hold will save the poor dear struggling with that pesky handbrake...or is this the pre runner to wholesale electric handbrake's?
Will we have a generation of driver's unable to adequately control a bog standard vehicle without such aids in the near future?
Do any of us take a pride in good driving anymore, and i don't mean belting along at warp speed or causing mayhem by the weekly display of road safety (often pure mimsing leaving frustration and chaos in their wake) some drivers have to show.
I mean taking pride in good technique, mechanical sympathy, smooth predictable and swift progress by skill, observation/awareness and care alone.
Just driving properly.

Spot on. They do usually brake and let you in as an alternative to contact though ;-)
