Hello,

A year ago I fixed the over-revving problem by adjusting the TPS but still the idle is not behaving well. It's not the TPS I guess because I can set it 0.8 - 0.4 V and it makes no difference. The symptoms are:

- when starting and driving cold the idle is fine
- on some days the idle is fine
- if I drive on a highway with more (throttle) the idle takes some time to settle down (but not over-revving)
- it seems that after removing the battery and connecting it again the idle behaves fine for a few days

What could it be, the computer?

Thanks Read more

many threads on this hd do a forum search
it could be as simple as a rip in an air hose that only shows whilst driving
the idle air control valve
screwloose suggests the loom to the vss
etc

At 09:50 on 23 Jun 09, we had the following:

"Dear all,

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We are taking this matter very seriously and have made improvements to our site security recently. We are looking into this matter further and will make a full announcement to all backroomers within 48 hours.

Many thanks

It seems strange that the spam outburst stopped immediately (as far as my email account is concerned) after the source had been 'rumbled'. Not that I am in any way suggesting a conspiracy theory....

Anyway - the 48 hours is up, guys, how about that 'full announcement'?

Must be quite a logisitcs exercise getting 1100 cars from a factory, onto a boat and over to here and on to a dealer? Any guesses how many times each individual car will be started and moved in that process? (obviously all on cold engines!)

I am guessing:
factory to pound
pound to transporter
transporter to pound
pound to ship
ship to pound
pound to transporter
transporter to other pound?
pound to transporter
transporter to dealer

Am I missing more? Wonder how many people are used to load and unload the boat? Maybe GordonBennett can shed some light on this?

slightly different tack - a road was resurfaced at the local MB dealership last week - no more than 5 feet from rows of shiny new motors - and some customers cars being serviced. Do you think any of those cars were moved or covered whilst the navvies did their thing ?

'course not , it was a hot day and I imagine the cars were getting caked - no thought at all there - pure idiots , and their labour charge is £125 p.h + VAT

Whilst visiting my local chippy the other day (not the carpentry variety), I noticed a 03 plate BMW Mini, sitting in a corner of a driveway, gathering moss, with a variety of maturing weeds and plantlife growing up around its wheels and body work.

It has obviously not been used in well over a year (maybe two), and is being allowed (scandalously) to rot.

Now, it may have some expensive fault or other, but surely if the owner intends not to fix it then they would be better off selling it as a fixer-upper rather than have it sit going to seed, rotting away in to the ground? Even as a fixer-upper it must be worth thousands.

Has anyone else seen a newer or more valuable car than this being allowed to decay? Read more

Not far from home, an ordinary 30s semi...for a long, long time there were, in the drive under a tarpaulin, a 1930s Cord convertable, supercharged, in white and rust. In the garage a pre WW1 Le Zebre acting as shelves for paint cans, etc !
Both there 40 yrs to my knowledge.

Hi

I just bought a 55 reg Espace with panoramic roof. The automatic sunblind on the inside has a problem where it does not open fully and when you close it, it hits the front and then goes back 9 inches or so. This was not a problem until I took it into a dealer to have the faulty ESP fixed. It was returned with this problem. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Chris Read more

Hi All,

Now it's my Mazda 323's turn to play up! - I've noticed that gears are getting harder to select, they work fine, I can select them all, but moving between gears isn't as slick as it usually is. Playing with changing the gears when the car's off and there are audible sounds when changing. It's a manual gearbox, btw. Anyone know if this is likely to be the beginning of the end for the gearbox - or simply a low level of gearbox oil - and, if so, is it likely that damage has already been done?

Apart from that, and considering it's in its 10th year, it's doing OK - but a big bill will probably exceed the value of the car!

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

RU sure it is the gearbox - has the clutch been given a clean bill of health?

A clutch on its way out can make the gear change difficult!

"So how about a ban on nice summers in order to save lives...?"
There's drivel and there's Mr X's drivel.

The way I read Mr X's 'drivel', is - no matter how many laws you pass, some things will never change'
ie, ban nice summers, they will still come...

I will be making several trips to France and Italy over the coming few months and am considering buying an annual car hire excess insurance policy. Internet quotes start at around £30 with most companies around the £40 mark. Does anyone have any particular recommendations? Has anyone had problems claiming from companies offering particularly cheap premiums?

Thanks for any advice. Read more

I have only called on this type of cover once. Hire via Holiday Auto who I believe pass on this to a company mentioned already. My hire car was a right off and I paid nothing apart from the differences in Exchange rate. I paid initially and claimed back.

If it is not your fault and you then get the money back from the hire company (I did) you then have to repay Holiday Auto or whoever.

Hi all,

I have been offered the following on a Freelander 2 GSe 2.2 Man - brand new unregistered :

Discount price to £22728

PX Allowance £12000 (2007 07 Focus ST3 - 17,000 Miles)

0% Finance for 2 years.

Seems to be a decent deal - several dealers I tried just wouldn't budge on price ! Read more

I know someone with a new Freelander. It's been ok apart from a water leak into the car from the high-level brake light and a rattle from the drivers door. Both were fixed but a little disappointing.

Aha, i stand firmly corrected :-)

Thanks for digging that out DD :-), I now know for sure but I would never use the vents for hot air anyway, and I parted from my cav many, many years ago so I could not correctly recall
