Hi, any advice would be very much appreciated: our 95 cabriolet's manual roof will not open at all. We turn the handle but it will not shift the roof, not even half an inch. Have tried WD40 and have checked all the fuses but no joy. Have contacted numerous garages for repair who do not seem to want to know about problems with soft tops.
We would like to sell it but can't imagine anyone will want it in its current state. Only other (expensive) option is to buy a new car and use scrappage scheme, although that seems a shame as the car has only done 60,000 miles!
Any ideas of what could be wong with the roof?
Thank you!

I've recorded the engine noise, or rather I've video'd it..hopefully it will enlighten someone more than me trying to explain the problem.
I've just driven about 250 miles and part way through driving I noticed a point where the engine wasn't as responsive as normal. So I pulled into the next service station and done the basic checks; oil level, fluids, belt tension etc.. everything seems ok. After a break I carried on my way.
However as soon as I got arrived, and the engine was stationary, it started making some odd noise, like the belt is scraping against something, the noise appears on then off, on and off..etc etc, about 15 seconds into the video you can hear it quite strongly.
If I rev the engine, the noise stops, but then after a couple of moments it starts once again.
I'd like a fair idea of what it could be...

>>Also the pressure sensor seems faulty
Depending upon condenser, you get a new pressure switch with the genuine Vauxhall part.
Hi,
Again a question on behalf of a colleague who is not a member of this site.
He is look at purchasing a Volvo S80 2.5 TDI. He has not actually seen a particular one nor driven one. He just likes the look of them. Car will be used for commuting about 400 miles a week. He is looking at the older S80's upto about year 2000. having done some research these engines are audi sourced from the old shape audi 100/a6 and also came in the VW transporter van.
Are the S80's good solid cars.
Engine wise any known problems?
Are they durable like the volvo's of yesteryear?
Any current / past owners opinions? Read more
How is one supposed to make an offer on the car? do you just say, I will give you £1450 or is that offensive to ask for £50 off?
Start below a Grand. You can always go up, but not down.
Good luck..MD

Ten years on ......
I went to start my micra this morning as usual and all i got was a 'click'. The lights on the dash came on as usual and the sterio works but no life in the engine.
It is the automatic 1.3 gx (K11) so as far as i am aware i cannot 'bump' start it.
Anyone out there got any ideas?
I have looked around and have come up with the idea that the starter motor may be 'locked' but am hoping this is not the case as i have had no problems at all starting her before this morning and would not have thought it would just 'lock' up like that. Also it could be very expensive to fix if it was that.
Am hoping it is something like an immobiliser kicking in that can be easily solved.
Someone pleeeeease give me some good news.
Thanks

Just a note of safety if you are going to remove the battery terminals. ALWAYS take the negative off first and put back on last.
air con doesnt work had the car about 6 months i was going to try that ez chil recharge at 40 pounds a can, any advise would be appriciated.thanks lee. Read more
Previous comments on the forum have suggested that these aerosol refills are useless. If you trust your car to kwik fit they won't charge you if their service does not improve you air con performance. The cost isn't mentioned!
"An estimated 10% of Air-Con gas permeates from the system every year. (Does it?)
Air-Con systems need recharging with gas & lubricant every 2 years. (Does it?)
Air-Con recharge service available from over 570 centres in the UK.
No appointment normally necessary- service operated on a drive-in basis.
Cooler air-conditioning or your money back guarantee"
My car hansnt had any maintenance on the air con in 5 years and it is still blowing very cold. I leave air con selected all the time, regardless of the season as per HJ's recommendation in FAQs

On some cars, there's a known fault where the connections on the high speed CAN bus become waterlogged and corroded - the connector is under the passenger side scuttle panel.

Reg: DB1001 ? a 'blinged to the max' black Range Rover HSE Sport Whatever crawled past me at 8mph in trés heavy traffic later in the afternoon at almost the same spot. Could it really have been 'GoldenBalls' himself?

The Candys are the brothers behind the now stopped development of Chelsea Barracks. A pair of - well I'll not say what I think, but I suspect the car may not be his much longer. Came up from nowhere like a rocket, all the property market is in thrall to them (except me) and I think I will be proved right as rapidly as they arrived.
Looking at buying a rather nice 05 focus, at a reasonable price but on my final inspection we noticed that all four tires are worn flat on the inside edge only. The rest of the tire was excellent, atleast 5mil all over, with exception of the edge facing the middle of the car, which as i said was bald.
This seemed more severe than just a alignment issue, so we agreed with the dealer to go no further in the deal until it had undergone a full geometry test.
One thing we did note is that the rear suspention bars (i think thats what there called, the hinged bar that holds the wheel to the chassis) had been replaced. Thouhg we have no way of knowing whether this is to correct the problem and they left the old tires on, or if the problem had developed since.
does anyone know if this is a common focus II issue, or had this before, or have any ideas on what causes it and how to solve it?
Cheers

How severe is the wear? if its just the edges that are worn, frequently carrying a lot of weight could do it, Does it have a tow hitch? towing a badly balanced caravan/trailer could wear the rear tyres in that fashion and the fronts may just be towing out to much - but its all speculation.
Devon is my part of the country but I dont know the firm in question.

Thank you so much Primera, I will take a look.
